Good morning, for all the UK users of this forum you might want to take a look at today's Sunday Telegraph travel section. There is an article on the front page where ten different pilots share their favourite and most scenic flights. These flights are,Heathrow to Cape TownHeathrow to San FranciscoStanstead to BergamoStanstead to Barcelona Amsterdam to LondonPhiladelphia to San FranciscoManchester to TenerifeLondon to SydneyNew Delhi to BagdograThe below link is to the Daily Telegraph site. Today's travel articles may appear here but I don't think the Telegraph has gone totally online yet so it may take a few days.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/index.jhtmlEnjoy!!I…

Hello all :)Just curious so I wanted to put this question to you heavy-airplane gurus http://www.planet-smilies.de/a_smilies/grinsende_3.gifI know that in light piston twins sometimes the pilot can use assymetrical thrust to take a tight turn while taxiing, (for example to take a hard left turn you can apply more power to the starboard motor).I was just wondering...do the big boys like A340-600, 777-300, 747-400, A330 etc - also do this? Or is it not necessary because of their power? I was wondering for example in the Airbus heavies if this was an automatic feature (you turn hard left and the computer cranks the power on the right engine to assist with the turn...)?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/essex/5196038.stm:(according to one eyewitness on the BBC news last night the plane was heading for a block of flats and obviously already in trouble, then the pilot seemed to manage to turn away toward a field but it nosedived into the ground. My heart goes out to his family.

Hi all,I received a weird email from a friend of mine. She knows I am an avid flight simmer and forwarded me an email that had some strange accusations about 9/11 and the 757/767 abilities that I was hoping someone could confirm or deny.First question: If the autopilot is NOT engaged, is there software loaded on the aircraft that will prevent it from doing more than 1.5 G's? I understand there are limits that can be placed on the autopilot heading depending upon the speed of the aircraft, but didn't know if something prevents it from making a hard turn if necessary.Second question: Can a 757 or 767 be operated via remote control from the ground? I can see a specially conf…

Hey all, I know this is off-topic, and I HOPE the mods don't move to the hanger as more people visit here then there (it seems). I have some GREAT news! I know off-topic posts are often moved to the hanger, but I hope this one is worthy of "hanging around" here where most of us spend quite a bit of time. I just wanted to post in here to sort of spread my good news to all of the Avsim folks. This month has been the best EVER for my family and I. A few weeks before Christmas about 2 years ago my Mother was diagnosed with Cancer and was told she had about 1-2 years to live, about Christmas the following year she was informed that she had about 6 months - 1 year to live. This …

Are there any abnormal checklists for Concorde out there?

The airshow is an annual event. I just live 5 miles from the airport as the crow flies. It was a classic British fighter jet, circa 1950's.1 dead and a miracle. (no other injuries...3 homes hit)http://www.theage.com.au/news/world/vintag...2988452579.htmlbt

Hi allSome information I picked up yesterday 17-7-06 at the International Air Tatooe at FairfordXV 307 a stretched C130 C3p was at the show celebrating 40 years of co-operation between Marshalls and the RAF. Painted in a striking series of motifs.I asked one of the crew about XV208 or (former) snoopy as we know it,I asked if XV307 was being used as the test airframe for the new A400M transport aircraft engine/propeller.I was told that XV208 Snoopy or ex Snoopy (you wouldn`t recognise her now) was still at Marshalls and would be used as the test airframe, before being handed back to the RAF or the Danish Airforce(( I didnt quite catch wich airforce he said)) Noisy jet above…

Hello fellow simmers,I just wanted to share my full flight sim experience I had a few days ago. On my 30th birthday I got an 1 hour session in a B737-300 simulator at the Lufthansa Flight Training Center in Berlin, Schoenefeld. I was so excited I couldn

How come Boeing has only a few dozen orders for this magnificent looking variant of the magnificent 747-400 so far? I mean, it's as if AIRBUS had the whole world mesmerized with their giant A380. I just don't get it. The new 748 will fly about as far as the A380 and with 450 pax. It will also be a lot more efficient to operate than the existing 744 model. I just don't fathom how come Boeing hasn't sold at least 300 of these extraordinary looking jets yet, especially as Airbus is in deep reputational doo-doo now and the A380 program is months behind schedule with a lot of nasty financial implications for the company.JS

Very sad....http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060709/ap_on_...sia_plane_crash""A man who said his brother, sister-in-law and their 4-year-old son were on the plane sat on a curb outside a crisis center near the airport fighting back tears. "They're not on the list" of people in hospital, said the man, who gave his name only as Vyascheslav. His friend Larissa Kolcheva, a 27-year-old Muscovite, said the three had flown to Moscow from the Moldovan capital Chisinau on Saturday morning and had been on their way to visit relatives in Irkutsk. "We met them yesterday morning at this very airport. It was great. We spent the day with them seeing Moscow ... Everything was beautiful," she…

Hi all, just had an interesting chat with a friend of mine.I won't go into specifics, but late-yesterday he attended a meeting and in this meeting the point was raised by an airline executive that Boeing not only builds parts for Airbus, but 30% of Boeing's revenue comes directly from it's parts relationship with Airbus!I scoffed at this rather loudly, and the word "bollocks" cropped up more than once. Can anyone here confirm or deny? Someone's going to have egg on their face....CheersTimNZWN

Read and see the amazing tale of the disaster that almost was.bthttp://www.kstp.com/article/stories/S17479.html?cat=1CAUGHT ON TAPE: A near disaster at MSPThe collision of two NWA planes last year at Minneapolis/St. Paul International is still under investigation so NWA and the NTSB wouldn't comment for this story. In fact, investigators didn't want us to get our hands on the tape until now.

Hi,I just have to tell someone...I have loved aviation since I was a child. I have been flight simming since about 1990 or so. Today, for the first time, I was PIC of a real airplane...I solo'd!! :-smile12 :-smile12 I never thought this day would come! FYI, it was a little Cessna 152 at 15G, RWY 3.Ok, thanks for your time. I feel better now. Back to surfing the message boards. :D Nick

I've just installed RealityPack 1.2 and it has to be one of the best downloads I ever made, this scenery completely transforms FS9 and the great thing about it, is that it covers the whole World.I hav'nt kept the bonus European files because unfortunately, they are far too bright on my system,I wish I knew of a way to tone them down because otherwise they are great.I've tried twice to email my thanks to Sascha and to ask for help with a problem but they were both returned undelivered. If anyone can help, the problem is with what looks to be a default landclass file. The reality pack meadow and forest files look beautiful which makes the offending file look even more dull …

For a while, there seemed to be large numbers of flightsim videos with background music being posted at file libaries. One notable library even started a new wesbite to cater for it. Then, seemingly quite suddenly, that website ceased & enquiries to them hasn't resulted in any answers.1. Am I correct in thinking that anyone who uses background music in a home made flight sim video is breaking copyright - even though they may have paid for the original music?2. If so, is this aspect of the hobby died off or are simmers just posting them on their own servers & hoping they don't get noticed?(While I fully support copyright measures, it seems quite a shame that what i…

Hi all :)I was wondering if anyone could say a little about how the F104 feels during turns (specificaly during low speeds at low altitude. How it handles, if it's heavy or light, stable or jittery, and whether it tends to roll level or upside-down when the stick is centered. Anything informative really :) )My understanding is that aircraft with wings that have positive dihedral, always tend to roll themselves level when no control-input is given. And that aircraft with anhedral wings (negative dihedral) always tend to roll over on their sides (sort of like when you fall over while riding on a bike, or something similar to that)Is that a general rule? (assuming the center-…

I have been told that single pilot in all but the C525 is now illegal in Europe meaning that the 500/550/560 now require 2 type rated pilots.Does anyone know if this is true and where the regulations are which state this.In the USA single pilot is still legal in some FAA reg jets but am not sure what the regs are in Europe?Peter
