Hello everyone,I recently noticed that the engine start sequence for the Boeing 747-400 is engine 4, then 3,2,1 in that order. However, in the 742 Ready for Pushback which I use, it is 4,1,2,3 which to me makes more sense. The way I understand it, starting two engines in symmetrical positions on the wings will distribute the sudden backlash of thrust force evenly on the airframe and gears, thereby reducing any tendency for the plane to suddenly move sideways (or any chance of it in any case). Can anyone with a type rating on the 744/742 comment on this difference in the engine startup order?Thank-you in advance,John

I tracked a Fedex flight from KMEM to KCVG on FlightAware Thursday, and there was a big complex of T-Storms there; and the plane went waaaay around the storms, all the way to St. Louis before turning. Is this normal? Here's the tracking chart:Rhett

It's climbed here in the states too. No liquids, no electronics on flights in the US now too it seems. I just recieved the following e-mail but it seems far too good to be true. Yet, it seems genuine with an address etc. I don't know whether to reply or not. One on hand it could comfirm my e-mail to spammers and I could recieve dozens of spam (and I get enough already)but, on the other hand, it could be genuine and I could be missing out on this. Do you reckon I should reply?FORM: BEDFORD INTERNATIONAL LOTTERY ORGANIZATIONNAL-LOTTO PROMO UKCauldwell Street Bedford, MK42 9AHBedford, United Kingdom.Office of Prize Disbursement (OPD)Dear Prize Winner,Reference number:BG/4455461999/06Batch number:44/1882/BDLWe are pleased to inform you of the result of the BEDFORD FORTUNE LOTT…

I cant find any info on the MS website on this, if any of you have details it would be real nice if you could post some links! :)I just "discovered" that there are two versions of FSX...one of which is a "Deluxe". Is this much like FS2002 where there was a regular version and a "Pro" one? Not much difference in prices between the two!http://img.game.co.uk/ml/3/2/9/1/329171ps.gif http://img.game.co.uk/ml/3/2/8/9/328925ps.gifhttp://www.game.co.uk/ViewProduct.aspx?cat=11338&mid=329171http://www.game.co.uk/ViewProduct.aspx?cat=11338&mid=328925

Good evening.Recently Auckland Int'l Airport (NZAA)has increased the value of it's assets, and airlines are worried (with much justification)that costs such as landing charges etc will increase...My question is why? Can someone please explain to me using words of one syllable or less why an airport increasing the value of it's assets leads to an increase in charges to it's customers (airlines/leaseholders)?I presume that the increase in charges in not something that happens naturally, Auckland (or any) Airport must decide that this gives them an excuse to do so....CheersTimNZWN

I am in the midst of a never ending clean-up of tons of family stuff following this year's home rehabbing and just discovered a beautiful pair of dark blue wool PanAm pax socks from the good ol' days--and a freshly packed PanAm comb.Ah, this is the stuff of happy days! I still remember PanAm with much affection. What a great airline. So, socks: onward Ho!JS

Been wondering this ever since I saw the movie Flight of the Phoenix (the remake, haven't seen the original)...What is the purpose of the shotgun starter in the aircraft they used for the movie? It's obvious it has an electric starter... So, what purpose does the shotgun thing serve?(Hopefully this is the right forum to ask in.....)

On the wiki page about the jet stream, it says:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jet_Stream"A 1943 Royal Air Force raid on Gironde, France, encountered tailwinds that sped them to their target, but returning the same headwinds, estimated at 380 km/h, caused their aircraft to stall, and the crews were forced to parachute into occupied Vichy France, where they were captured."How would the jet stream cause an aircraft to stall? Do they actually mean, "run out of fuel?" Even if that's what happened (they ran out of fuel) it seems like they could have made it a little farther than france.

The summary of a UK AAIB report into an incident involving a Casa 1-131E Series 2000 Jungmann and a Stolp Starduster SA 100 very simply states:"Two tailwheel aircraft landed at this unlicenced airfield at the same time but on reciprocal runways and subsequently collided in the centre of the airfield."

Hi,Everyone bangs on about how good Mozilla Firefox is and recommend it be used instead of IE so recently I thought I would give it a try. I posted the following over at Firefox Support, but thought I would post here as well in case someone reading this has already found a solution:I'm new to Firefox (version 1.5.0.4). I have installed it twice recently and after a relatively short period of normal boots into Windows XP SP2 (fully updated) and uneventful Shutdowns on completion of a session I start to notice the following brief message appearing on screen during Shutdown: "Firefox.exe dll ... initialization failed The application failed to initialize because the Windows s…
