I was just listening to a computer related show on the radio, and there was a story stating that the RIAA has begun targeting videos posted on "Youtube" and "Google Video" for having copyrighted music in the background of user videos. (There is also a number of stories posted on the web on this - Search "RIAA Video Music internet Google") They have begun issuing Cease and Dissist orders to users for uploading these videos and are ordering youtube and Google to remove these videos from their sites. So those that have or are considering posting videos to these sites beware. I have posted before on my concerns on this subject, it looks like my fears on the consequences are g…

Hi guys, after years of simming, building up the sim with myriads of add-ons, building a home cockpit with extensive hardware I finally got a little bored with it to a certain extent. Instead I bought a decent electric rc-helicopter and wow. Although this is a really complicated and difficult hobby to master I am completely hooked and did not touch the sim for 4 weeks now. Instead I bought an rc-sim for learning the more tricky stuff in helicopter fyling. Any of you guys are also rc-helicopter flyers?Alex

This happens to be the title of an article in the most recent magazine of Plane&Pilot (July 2006, page 74). I urge all those who like to resurect this subject once in a while on this forum to grab it and read it. It should finally settle this issue once and for all.It is impossible to retype this whole fun article but I can offer some quotes:When I asked Dr.Sheila Widnall, professor of Aeronautics and Engineering Systems at MIT, about this .... she responded, "It's scary there might be controversy about this issue. This is the basis of all subsonic aircraft design.".......The truth is that, among the Newton-Bernouli disputers, neither party is wrong. According to Dr.J…

Am sitting here in my room at the Intercontinental, Sydney, having just finished dinner and sipping on my bottle of Bimbadgen Shiraz, watching England vs. Australia Rugby League. Score Aus 19, vs England 3. Go Australia!!!Who says an American can't understand anything but US Football. Piffle. Missing front teeth, a broken nose... What more is there to understand. :)England sucks at the moment. What's up with that?

We know that current twin engines aircraft like a 777 are relatively safe - a chance of losing both engines for unrelated reasons is tiny. The current rate of unscheduled in-air engine shutdowns for the 777 type is 1 event per 250,000 hrs of operation per engine. Ok, I then asked myself the following question: How long do we have to wait to have a 50% chance of witnessing such a rare 2 engine failure on this aircraft?. (Assuming current level of traffic). To answer this question I first used available number of current 777 flights - about 170,000 flights per year. I also guessed an average 777 flight is 10 hrs. in duration. This gave me a probability of about 0.00027 to ha…

http://money.cnn.com/2006/06/15/technology...dex.htm?cnn=yesI have to applaud Bill Gates (though he won't hear it) -IMO there is no more important study to humankind than biology and medical science, and Mr. Gates' move to spend more time on his charity work has me nearly speechless.Hopefully this will set an example for borderline philanthropists, and set shame on those who thrive on greed alone.Kudos.---Andrew

have seen a few repaints of the A400M in US military colors. Looks nice, but wonder if this isnt politically impossible. I just dont see the US military buying a direct competitor to the Lockheed C-130 and in some missions the Boeing C-17. This would hurt the US military manufacturing sector. Granted the C-130 (even J model) is getting a bit long in the tooth, but politically this doesnt seem to wash.Anybody have any specific info on US views on the A400? Im all for capable aircraft...but this seems far fetched. Eric

I just stumbled on internet on some pretty gruesome pictures from an accident that took place just days ago in Poland. A pilot flying a Piper Cub was supposed to throw flowers onto a cemetry down below where a group of people gathered and participated in unveiling of some commemorative plaque. The pilot's grandfather was mentioned on that plaque. Something went wrong - the aircraft crashed just outside of the walls of the cemetery. Clearly someone had a ready camera since you can see the pilot being pulled from the wreckage and 14 other fairly intimate photos - unfortunately the pilot died on the spot. I am not posting any link since I don't want to create sensationalism …

Hi All, I searched the forum and no one has asked this (that I could find), but has there been documented incidents involving the wake turbulence of an aircraft taking off and it's effect on automobile traffic on roads/highways near the end of the runway. Case in point, I was recently traveling down I-10 in Phoenix on my way to Sky Harbor when a US Airways 757 passed over the highway just after takeoff (at a right angle), ahead of me about 1/4 to 1/3 of mile (estimate), when I reached the point in the highway the aircraft had crossed over, it felt like I was hit by a very strong gust of wind in the same direction as the departing aircraft. I was traveling south, airc…

Hi,Why do some airlines use a "thumbs up" routine during taxi? Gents and Ladies,I just tried to buy a CD via iTunes. The album created by Dizzy Mizz Lizzy, a danish group. As I live in Canada I could only register in Canada. But trying to buy the DML album gave me an error: "You can only buy albums in the Canadian store" and the DML album was only available in the Danish store. What's the deal? The publisher don't want to broaden their group's audience? Yeah I guess that makes a lot of marketing sense. "Let's keep people from buying our stuff and we'll make more money"I bought their first album and took it with me to the other shore of the pond. Noone told me I couldn't. Maybe I should have told the big label? So I guess it comes down…

It's cut and dry for me, if someone is going to do this sort of thing, they are NOT my friend, they hurt me and the community by doing this, they have no morals and this hurts everyone in the long run. It's everyones obligation to do what they can to stop this kind of thing. It's plain ans simple, a developer spends months on a project and loses half it's sales to some idiot losers that host and share the files, what happens? The developer either quites, enables some crazy anti piracy scheme that makes it a pain for normal users or charges even more for the product, thus hurting you and I.Personally I feel these types of pirates and hackers should be shot in public to get t…
