During one of her daily classes a teacher trying to teach good manners,> asked her students the following question: > "Michael, if you were on a date - having dinner with a nice young lady,> how would you tell her that you have to go to the bathroom?"> > Michael said, "Just a minute I have to go pee." > The teacher responded by saying, "That would be rude and impolite." > What about you Peter, how would you say it?" > Peter said, "I am sorry, but I really need to go to the bathroom. I'll> be right back." > "That's better, but it's still not very nice to say the word bathroom> at the dinner table." > "And you, little Johnny, can you use …

Hey all. Was lucky enough last week to win at an airshow an introductory flight from the flight school at Buckeye Airport in Buckeye, Arizona and took my flight this morning.I'm hooked!!!Other than a few tweaks by the instructor during landing, I basically flew the whole half hour flight myself (with my 12 year old son in the back seat). The instructor was impressed with my abilities and told me I was well ahead of most first time students. I certainly attribute that to my FS experience and having a flight yoke and pedals on my home workstation. I was certain that flying a real plane was going to be easier than FS and that proved to be so true. Not only do you have s…

Our local airport had an interesting time last week. Apparently a 737 had to abort its take-off because of a 'possible windshear' warning. I assume this was via an audible cockpit warning, and it must have occurred before V1. My question is does anyone know what the procedures might be had the warning come after V1 or even on the point of V2 or Vr?

Well, according to various sources on the net, MS is going to FORCE SP2 in all non-SP2 machines as from the 12th April.http://www.neowin.net/comments.php?id=27171&category=mainThe only way to stop this happening is to disable the automatic update service.I for one will be doing this, I have "upgraded" my work PC to SP2, and was dismayed at how poorly it ran afterwards, so decided to leave it off my "pleasure" PC, it now seems this is no longer acceptable for MS and want to FORCE SP2 in every machine. Not overly happy about this, what do you all think?Dan.

I bought FS Panel studio late last year and its been a joy to use allowing me to tweak panels like none other. I then upgraded to Build 18222 which Im running at the moment. All was well until I dived into the Options>Preferences menu and mucked about with them. Now the recent files function has gone http://www.planet-smilies.de/kaos/CreamPuffKaos/pcrying.gifBy that I mean when I used to point to File it would drop down a list of the recently edited panel.cfgs. Now theres nothing there..it wont remember recently used files which means I have to locate and load each one individually. Its not the end of the world but if fellow FS PanelStudio users could offer some tips on…

  13. THE US airline safety authority is proposing to impose its maximum fine of $US25,000 ($A34,900) on British Airways for flying a jumbo jet from Los Angeles to Britain, despite one of its engines breaking down shortly after take-off.In an embarrassing chastisement, the US Federal Aviation Administration has accused BA of operating an aircraft in an "unairworthy condition" by failing to stop the 8900-kilometre flight when the fault arose.Air traffic controllers at Los Angeles airport spotted sparks coming from one of the Boeing 747's four engines a few seconds after it took off in February last year. After contacting BA's operations base in London for advice, the captain opt…

It is with great sadness that R.N.A.S. Yeovilton say's goodbye to the Sea Harrier. It's base since built and home to the famous 'flying bedstead' that is still on display within the Yeovilton museum. Why the M.O.D. has taken the descision to scrap it without a replacement is just ludicrous?Interested collector's, I'm told can buy one for around 8 million pounds.Dave T. .........On the Devon Riviera and active 'FlightSim User's Group' member at http://www.flightsimgrpuk.free-online.co.uk/http://www.captainsim.com/user/dl/c130/c130_captain.gif

A friend of mine, Mike Aitchison, who lives in Canberra, Australia, had been restoring a Spitfire MK V. He and his partner recently decided to acquire this beauty below. She is currently based at Melbourne and Mike thinks she'll be moved to Adelaide. She's been modified to seat two, as you can tell by the modified canopy. Her paint job has been changed since these photos were taken; the advertising has been removed, and some other changes. She has 180 hours on her since restoration or engine rebuild (I am a bit fuzzy on that one). Anyway, Mike has graciously invited me for a spin in her next time I am in Australia. I am really looking forward to that! http://forums.avsi…

Hi all... I'm heading to Las Vegas this weekend for the first time, and I just wanted to find out if anybody knows of any airlines or other companies that have full-motion flight simulator rides available to the public in the area? I don't know if any airlines do any training in the area, but figured folks here might know. Thanks!

Pierre Closterman has just died. He was a Frenchman who served as a fighter pilot with the Free French Air Force and the Royal Airforce in World War 2. His memoirs of his experience - The Big Show - are regarded as amnong the best. His account of his first flight in a Typhoon as an experienced Spitfire pilot is well worth reading. On take off it needed full left rudder yet the aircraft still drifted to the right edge of the runway and, once airborne, went sideways over the site of a hanger that had to be demolished to avoid aircraft hitting it. On approach he flew a full power circuit to clear the plugs at 420 mph which meant meant he needed another two circuits to get t…

I was surprised today to find that "Dreamwings" has uploaded an FDE "fix" for the EMB 170. When I posted in the Dreamwings forum regarding this (and in neither instance attacking anyone, including the author of the update) in both instances the Dreamwings moderator used his "rights" as moderator to pull the plug on my posts. So I am using my "rights" as moderator here to share my concern and to seek feedback. When I contributed the original FDE to the 170 project, I never agreed to waive my rights to my intellectual property although I was more than happy to allow Dreamwings to use it and to release it under protection of their EULA. Dreamwings is essentially stating th…
