If you are ever faced with a forced landing at night, turn on the landing lights to see the landing area. If you don't like what you see, turn'em back off.Have a nice day,Bob... in sunny Florida

Nonpilots can fly 737s with 'FlyaSim'Offering a joy ride in a jet flight simulator is a more complicated proposition in a post-9/11 era than it was before, according to Charley Shepard, owner with his wife, Jean, of Parameter Aviation Inc.http://www.bizjournals.com/dallas/stories/...html?from_rss=1

I found this site accidently! You can track actual flights into some major airports, like JFK, LGA, LAX as well as others. Looks pretty cool. If you select the aircraft, you can track it'stype, and altitude. Your suppose to be able to see it's designation, but all I see is an asterisk. Thought you guys would be interested!! No software, other than JAVA runtime is required to view.http://www.passur.com/sites.htm#

I was in Beirut, Lebanon, on September of 2005. I was lucky enough to be able to shoot a video of the approach and landing of the Air France 777 I was flying in. I made a DVD video of all my trip to Beirut.I also made a VCD of about 15 megs of the approach and landing in 4 combined screens including an FS9 simulation. I was thinking of uploading it to the Avsim Library, but I read the restriction below:"Videos: ATTENTION! At this time AVSIM is not accepting any Videos uploaded to be hosted in the library. Files of this type will be deleted without being processed!"Any ideas? Thanks.Abe

TBM-700 is a great airplane offering lots of speed and economy and Socata just upgraded this package to TBM-850 adding more speed, range, climb, etc.Two things strike me however about this aircraft. First while others offer full glass cockpit Socata seems to be stuck in dark ages. No Avidyne, no Garmin D1000 - not even available as options. Very peculiar.Next is the price. TBM-850 will set you back at least $2.5 mln. Considering this is single engine turboprop and that you can have twin jet engine for $1.4 mln it may look very overpriced. Of course one may argue that Eclipse 500 is not being delivered to customers yet and final price may still change but all the signs in …

After every flight, Qantas pilots fill out a form called a "gripe sheet" - this tells mechanics about problems with the aircraft. The mechanics correct the problems, document their repairs on the form, and then the pilots review the gripe sheet before the next flight. Never let it be said that ground crews lack a sense of humor. Here are actual maintenance complaints submitted by Qantas' pilots (marked with a P) and solutions recorded (marked with an S) by maintenance engineers. By the way, Qantas is the only major airline that has never had an accident. Enjoy! P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement. S: Almost replaced left inside main tire. P: Test flight OK,…

One thing pointed out in my first SPL lesson this weekend was the ground on the left main gear of my Allegro. The CFI pointed out that once he did not notice during preflignt that the static discharge ground was not touching terra firma. He took the aircraft out for a spin, came back, exited the aircraft, touched metal and....zap.I thought that was one important tidbit to remind of the importance of preflighting any aircraft and sticking to a checklist. And, if you don't fly and are simply along for the ride, always let the Pilot exit first--just in case :)-John

You know I was just reading through the FSX forum only to find one thread where two great guys got into the most heated clash. I'm new here but I've been reading through these forums for quite some time. I've seen more than a few times where someone tries to step on the other or discredit another

Well folks... I finally did it. This hard-of-hearing pilot got through all the red tape and over all the obstables and accomplished my first solo! I have LONG since been ready, says my instructor (since before I had 5 hours total time) but because of the paperwork that needed to be done because of my profound hearing loss (I'm deaf without the use of hearing aids), I wasnt able to solo until I had about 15 hours. But I did it! I will have a video shortly, as well as pictures. Stay posted!

For years, airlines, and military air forces around the world have attempted to improve safety and pilot performance by implementing a sterile cockpit policy to one degree or another. Pilots are asked to refrain from unnecessary or irrelevant conversations. Flight crews are deliberately shuffled on each flight, so that so as to avoid forming habits that diverge from SOP. Ideally the airlines would probably prefer that all crews interact in precisely uniform fashion with as little emotion as possible. One may argue the pros and cons of this idea, but with human nature being what it is, one can only assume that the system is far from perfect. I am interested in learning …
