Aviation Terms ----- 180-Degree Turn - A sometimes difficult maneuver to perform; the degree of difficulty is usually determined by the size of the pilot's ego. A & P. Rating - Enables you to fly groceries Aero - That portion of the atmosphere that lies over Great Britain. Aerodrome - British word for airport. Exactly what you'd expect from a country that gives its airplanes names like Gypsy Moth, Slingsby Dart, and Fairey Battle Bomber. Aileron - A hinged control surface on the wing that scares the #### out of airline passengers when it moves. Airfoils - Swords used for dueling in flight. Often used to settle disputes between crew members and passengers. Airp…

Man, it seems that every new site I go to wants to set at least 4 cookies. My firewall is set to alert me to this and I always deny the cookie. Four is too many cookies. It is neat how after 5 minutes of viewing a site, it will try to set a new cookie. The firewall catches it though.JimCYWG

Who in here flies professionally? It has always been my dream to get paid to fly, I always wanted to be an airline pilot. However, I quickly realized that it was most likely not possible, seeing as I'm not made of money. So I got to thinking, what about some kind of job flying small a/c? Maybe some kind of charter or really small airline. Anything that requires a cert that's cheaper than selling my kidney to be certified on a CRJ or some such.Does anyone have that kind of job? If so how did you get to where you are now? This question goes for all who fly professionally; how did you end up where you are?

Hiya.Watching the planes at my local airport yesterday (NZWN), with a brisk northerly and planes landing and departing from the south. Then an ATR-72 taxis to runway 16, and takes-off with the wind behind it!Can anyone tell me why an aircraft would take-off with the wind, when the accepted rule is to go against it?Given how regulated the industry is, I can't imagine for one minute it's at pilot discretion, and if the tower witnessed a pilot taxi-ing in the wrong direction, then surely a forceful reminder would be issued.ThanksAllblack

So, up here in Manitoba, CANADA, we have a lot of geese that come north here and go further as summer progresses. I was wondering. If a GOOSE take off VFR and flies say at 2000 ft. The weather goes IFR. Does the GOOSE get an IFR clearance to let down? Can a GOOSE fly IFR or do they have to be in VFR conditions. They do seem to make it a long ways north and south each year.JimCYWGoose

  18. I got a chance today to fly a Diamond 40 with Garmin 1000's. http://www.diamondaircraft.com/aircraft/da...ning/index.html I'd love to show you the pictures but I had my camera in the wrong mode and they all came out white. Never give a pilot a camera. The flight lasted an hour from Kansas City Downtown (KMKC) eastward to south of the Clay County Airport area (KGPH) then back west to Kansas City International (KMCI) and back south to KMKC. More on the flight later.Let me first say this: In FS you can easily fly a glass cockpit. In the real world you CANNOT without at least a couple of good days memorizing all the pages. It's a whole different ball game.I pretty much j…

I am looking to buy a portable, hand-held scanner to listen to ATC in airports during my many business trips. I am looking specifically at the Uniden Bearcat BC-92XLT as a nice small size for travel, but wonder if there are any known problems with it or whether there are other models that people would recommend based on experience. I would appreciate any comments.Joseph Anderson

Talk about an unusual topic :-lolI modified my car gauges tonight... I bought white gauge faces for my car, and scanned them so I could make templates out of them, and started thinking of ideas of what designs to do... and I came across a thought:I love planes so much... why don't I imitate aircraft instruments? So, here you are... the first of 6 gauges, the speedometer. Replicating, what else, an IAS indicator!http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/147134.jpg

Hi all, Look, remember the Discovery Wings Channel switched to the Military Channel and promised us that regular aviation shows would come on in the evening. Well what ever happened to them? I want to start a petition to get the shows back on the air. I am fourteen years old and know more about airplanes than any one else in my school. This is very depressing:-( :(
