Just like you can choose a cellphone company - in a few years you will be able to choose a positioning system. The first Galileo satellite was launched today and the system plans to be fully operational world wide in 2008."The $4 billion Galileo project will eventually use about 30 satellites and is expected to more than double GPS coverage, providing satellite navigation for everyone from motorists to sailors to mapmakers. Because Galileo is under civilian control, the ESA also says it can guarantee operation at almost all times, unlike the American system. Last year, President Bush ordered plans for temporarily disabling GPS satellites during national crises to prevent t…

He went to Vietnam and lost track of you. Did you go to Nam? Where did you get all your flight experience? Hope the two of you have a real nice reunion, I passed along all the information I had so you can expect to hear from him real soon I bet!Happy New Year, 2006 is going to be a year to remember!TallyHO

I didn't see this posted yet, so for those that haven't heard yet, there was a engine fire on a BA 747 taking off from JFK last night about 11PM ET, forcing an Emergency landing. No one was injured. BA spokesman, said it was caused by a power surge in the engine. Here's a link to the story!!http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=local&id=3769112#

What is the SOP on aircraft recognition lights? Are they on during all phases of flight? When I've flown commercial and sat near a wing I don't remember ever seeing wing inspection lights on. So my question is, when are the wing and tail lights turned on and when are they turned off? While we're on the subject, my understanding is that the flashing anti-collision lights must be turned on right before the engines are started. Those lights indicate to ground crew (who may be wearing hearing protection) that the engines are on.Strobe lights are turned on just before take off.And navigation lights (the red and green lights) are on at all times.I know there are real pilots …

I have noticed so many posts lately that read like the four examples below..." You are wrong, since it wasn't mentioned until today"" I agree with you, after seeing it"" Yes, I will take you suggestion"" I have always done it that way , but I found out recently that it was not the correct way to do it, so I took your suggestion and it works much better." Problem I have is , who the heck are they replying to and what the orginal poster saying that generated the comment that I am reading now. The only way to find out is to backtrack which post it is with the numbering system which is tedious at best, or to change the way my posts are displayed so I can figure it out wi…

Hi all, Does anyone know of any good websites that has info on all of the various (the major ones at least) airlines? I was wondering because I would like to know how big certain airlines are and stuff like that. Like right now, I'd like to know what the largest airline is, as far as fleet size goes, and I would guess United and probably would be right, but I know British Airways and Qantas and Lufthansa are big as well. Does such a site exist? Thanks,Jeff

First of all I'd like to apologise for the length of this post. It's a collection of my thoughts, opinions and observations with regards to our hobby.I've lurked both here and on other forums for some time now. I played my first flight sim in 1989 at the age of 8. My first encounter with MSFS was FS98. FS2000 was the first version that I spent a significant amount of time with and by the time FS2002 came around I was "bitten by the bug". I have a large collection of addons, both commercial and freeware, and I have spent more money than I care to think about on addons over the last 4-5 years.Probably the biggest thing I have noticed about our hobby over the years is the in…
