Hangar Chat
This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc. Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view. The Night Before Christmas - Aviation Style'Twas the night before Christmas, and out on the ramp,Not an airplane was stirring, not even a Hamp. The fighters were fastened to tie downs with care,In hopes that come morning, they all would be there. The fuel trucks were nestled, all snug in their spots,With gusts from two-forty at 39 knots.I slumped at the dispersal desk, now finally caught up,And settled down comfortably, resting my butt. When the radio lit up with noise and with chatter,I turned up the speaker to see what was the matter.A voice clearly heard over static and snow,Called for clearance to land at the airbase below. He barked his transmission so lively and quick,I…

There is a problem i have never managed to find a definite solution to. It goes as follows:A pressurised aircraft (thus a closed system) carries a flock of birds. Suppose that the birds are flying inside the aircraft. Will this make the aircraft lighter? My own suggestion is no, based on simple conservation of momentum in a closed system. The birds flapping their wings will eventually exert a downward force on the aircraft body. Still, I have seen all kinds of resoning that supports the opposite conclusion.-

Is there anything in the aviation that allows for slightly higher takeoff weight if center of gravity is slightly aft (still within the limits). Some folks on some other forums claims this is the case.Michael J.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_beta_member.jpg

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!In the 1950's James Calvert, captain of the USS Skate did research on the North Polar region in preparation for his voyage there. (Read "Surface at the Pole".) He came upon a Russian theory which he outlined in his book. It explored what would happen if the polar cap melted. On the surface considering the time, the Russians would have loved it, an opening of their ports which might shift the superpower balance. The Skate was the second nuclear sub ever made, all Russian subs could not operate under ice long enough to quickly get out of icebound ports. A massive surface deployment from most of their ports in winter would be vulnerable to air…

In an effort to stop that lunacy, the House has passed a bill that may help to prevent this. A $250.000 fine, and up to 5yrs in prison can be imposed. These lasers can cause, temporally blinded pilots, and permanent eye damage.AOPA, reports over 400 laser incidents since 1990. I have seen some ,pointing lasers at cars, trucks, and busses.Often from the overpasses on our highway systems. As in the air,so too on the ground it is dangerous. The FAA,has established a reporting system for these incident's. Wondering if any one here has had that experience? VIN

Here's an interesting article I happened on:http://www.weathergraphics.com/tim/747sim/They do a simulated takeoff run and abort right at V1, but using only the brakes, they overshoot the runway. The moral of the story is, use thrust reversers. But wait! If you lose an engine, isn't reversing thrust on the other potentially dangerous?

I was just reading this:http://www.eagleaviationgroup.com/brochure.htmWhich states that the Beechjet 400A is certified for only one pilot, but that the Hawker 400XP requires both pilot and copilot. My understanding is that they are very nearly the same airplane. Anyone know what difference accounts for the fact that you need another warm body to take the 400XP up? They don't have special runways for carpooling do they? :-)

Hey People, this is a FS forum, but I just wanted to tell you that I have invested in an SBS-1 unit. This enables me to monitor real air traffic in real time.More at www.kinetic-avionics.co.uk.

That spelling error in the FSD news item, "immanent", is just awful. No offense, but you should change it as it makes the ad look amateurish. There is such a word of course, but I highly doubt that was what was meant, unless a good laugh was the desired result.:)

Did Avsim build a pop-up on their front page? I noticed it last night while goofing around here. Firefox blocked a pop-up. I closed FF and opened Avsim several times and blocked a pop-ups. This morning, while on my work PC, I open Avsim and FF is still blocking pop-ups.Do I have sometype of adware or are pop-ups now part of Avsim?Dondo

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!I have lost count of how many posts I have seen moved out of the MSFS arena written by guys who know what it's for. Do they think mods have nothing better to do? Or is "traffic" so important- like talking on a cellphone while driving. One of my posts has over 1,000 views already... may be removed, but never has one of mine been moved.Merry Christmas and a Survivable New Year:-beerchug
