Hey,Just looking through the results of the demographic survey and the male/female split is very interesting!!!!!! I've always wondered why the whole aviation industry (even the simulated one!) is so male dominated.... Would be nice to have a few more gals to even it up a bit, both in real life & in simulation! I work for an airline and it would be nice to see a few more female flight crew :)Strange though - there are plenty of real world female ATCOs....Any thoughts?Adam

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!I was enroute to Philadelphia from Walnutport PA tonight. Got on the highway, accelerated to 55 and turned on/set cruise out of habit. The car ahead wasn't quite doing 55, left lane wasn't clear so I tapped my brakes instead of having to reset cruise speed later.Just then, I remembered two things.#1- The rain beginning to splatter my windsheild was the front end of the remnants of Wilma, and even more importantly;#2- It is NOT a good idea to use cruise control if there is a reasonable expectation that your car may hydroplane or skid. The cruise control may do things that will rapidly make the situation worse, and I would have to Tap the brak…

Hello, All. I am usually only seen in the MSFS areas of this forum, and this is my first time even seeing the Hanger Chat, however as much as I am a fan of AVSIM I felt I absolutely had to post this great news. For any of you who may be from Colorado, The Pueblo City Counsel passed a decision last week to let PCC start a flight school and a degree program here for Aviation Maintenance Technician -- later on to be followed by professional flight school and even an ATC school. They are going to try to keep the tuition at regular levels, with cooperation from Steel City Aviation for the flight portion and Adam Aircraft for the maintenance part. This next semester they will b…

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!A few threads have made me wonder. What makes you more interested in a particular sim aircraft, the performance and looks of its real world counterpart or the quality of the rendition for your sim?For the sake of argument, let's start with the premise that the flight dynamics are accurate and would be acceptable to you for several choices. Would you settle for flying a plane you don't think is quite as cool to get more systems/avionics functionality or the "latest thing" like flushing toilets or something?I'm not training for my PPL, and I do like heavies sometimes, but my simming is usually heavily biased on the premise that I "own" this p…

I've got a Loran R-30A in the 172 I fly, but I've never tried to use it. I didn't see the manual for it in the plane, and a search of the web turned up nothing. It's got no other Markings besides "R-30A" on the face, and the only other thing on it is a sticker reading "Loran for VFR use only" -- which of course is fine by me, as I'm not instrument rated anyway. It's not a huge deal, except that since the equipment is there, it'd be nice to know how to work it in a pinch. Anyone know who makes this puppy and how I might go about getting a manual for it?thanks,

The aviation museum in NY has a full motion simulator using X-plane as platform and is tailored for a twin engine Barron. The museum doesn't know how to market to the visiting public or how much to charge. I flew it today and it has some advantages over my FS2004 home set-up (like good full motion) and some disadvantages (my graphics on FS2004 are MUCH better). They had to keep the graphics to a minimum due to frame rate issues (they have 4 computers (old PC's) running this). The cockpit layout was pretty good with a triple display for scenery and 1 display for instruments and a radio stack, yoke, throttles and rudder pedals from VMAX. Here's my question -Would a sim…

In the first two minutes of the opening of the film "BAT 21", Gene Hackman is on a golf course and a helicopter lands behind him as he is taking his tee shot. Okay, here's the question; "What is the manufacturer of the helicopter and what is the basic model type"? You don't need to name the rev type, but you need to get the basic model correct along with the manufacturer. Winner of this question gets a free drink or three at the AVSIM 2006 Conference in Washington DC next September. Good luck!

I was looking at CNN today only to find pictures of a couple of airports with Cessna's and Cirrus's turned upside down from Hurricane Wilma. Why in the world would any GA pilot leave his plane out in the open with a CAT 2 Hurricane heading for his home and local airport? You would think when the word goes out about a major storm that pilots would fly their aircraft to a safer location until the storm past. If I owned an aircraft like a C182 (let alone a Cirrus) I wouldn't let my investment sit around and wait for an insurance claim. The more you file claims the more likely you

A Thai Airways jet has blown several tyres upon landing at Melbourne airport, which has been brought to a standstill. The plane was stranded at the intersection of two runways at the airport, said a spokesman for air traffic control agency Airservices Australia. The Airbus A340 "landed heavily" and "damaged a number of wheels on landing", the spokesman told AAP."There was a small fire in the undercarriage," he said.Planes are being diverted to Adelaide and Avalon airports for the time being and engineers are looking at the under-carriage to see whether the plane can be towed. So far, 12 planes had been diverted from the airport or delayed.

so, I bought a super duper stereo a while back. Carver, and AE I speakers, and a Carver bass thingy. It rocks. The sound of the flaps coming down is awesome, omg. And it vibrates. It's not a vibrator, but vibrates nonetheless. Too cool. If you can, do it...billg

Nearly 60 yrs ago, a pilot, and three airman left Sacramento Airfield,in an AT-7,a navigation training plane,on Nov. 18 1942.It was reported missing shortly after. Very recently,In a receding glacier in a Serra Nevada mountain,,an airman's body ,in his parachute, was found. The body is incased in a block of ice about 400lbs. It has been removed from MT.Mendel elv. 13,710,to a place for further identification. The preserved body , in a green uniform, thermal undershirt, sweater,a fountain pen,a sewing kit and the rip cord for the unopened parachute is in the ice block. The now elderly sister of the cadet, would like positive identification of her brother. She was 17 then,he 23…

Just back from 4 flights in all on Airbus 320 and 321. Glasgow to Barcelona, via Heathrow London. (23 aircraft I could see waiting in line to take off, at Heathrow and 20 mins circling Kent on return). The startled look on the faces of all passengers as Airbus port engine starts, is a joy to watch. Screaming cats in a fight is a fair desciption of starter motor.I assume all Airbuses share this trait?
