The problem that vexed the JetBlue crew was not unique, at least not among Airbus aircraft..."The problems with JetBlue Flight 292 marked at least the seventh time that the front landing gear of an Airbus jet has locked at a 90-degree angle, forcing pilots to land commercial airliners under emergency conditions, according to federal records."Read the whole thing here: http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-je...-home-headlinesbt

For those who love those "CUBS", the currant issue of AOPA, has a wonderful feature story about that legend. It reminds us this was the plane of the greatest generation. "There was nothing like it" For many its still the plane of choice,to learn, and enjoy. I have some fond memories about the Cub.It taught me all I had to know about flying. They are now worth ten or more times than what they were worth. Now that fuel is a concern, the cub still sips gas at about 5gals per hr.So, forget the "Glass Panel"Fly like you feel the plane ,yur butt can tell you more than any instrument.I thought I was reminiscing a bit, but its refreshing to see the eternal interest in this yellow ta…

I was checking my favorite airliner sites and came across this pic today. I have never seen double ramps. I guess it makes sense, especially on a 747. What if FS10 were almost as detailed as this pic? Perhaps, FS15 will be.http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=9294...&sok=&photo_nr=RH

Hi all,Recently I was waiting at the gate aboard a B-737. Sitting just forward of the starboard wing I saw a mechanic working on the engine. About 10 min later we pulled back and was taxing to the runway when I noticed a latch on the cowling was sticking straight-up Clearly the latched had not been secured. I rang for the FA who then told the cockpit. The plane came to an abrupt stop and shortly thereafter a mechanic fixed the latch.I received few "pats on the back" from my fellow passengers and one guy talked the FA in giving me some free drinks. The whole thing was good natured but I wonder if this could have turned into a serious incident or are there other latches tha…

The drive to Troutdale was interminable. I drummed my fingers on the wheel restlessly, while scanning the sky for signs of any untoward weather. Billowing white steam poured from the stacks of the Camas paper mill, curling high and slowly eastward into a vast expanse of blue. Looking down the freeway, I studied the jagged horizon at the mouth of the Columbia River Gorge. I knew Larch Mountain topped out at around three thousand feet, and the few dollops of cloud were drifting by well above its summit. Slight wind and only a few high clouds, but my stomach was in knots never the less.A week previous, Sylvia, my instructor, had announced that she thought I was ready to take…

Hi All, Given our recent discussion envoloving this type of incident I am personally going to keep close tabs on this one. Here is the story: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...1601286_pf.html God I hope this guy was not just an aviation buff but rather a potential danger. I do wonder though, he did have a lot of stuff, it really seems as if he might be a threat. Either way I hope they investigate fully and come to the proper conclusions. Hurricane Rita is nearing, and houston is getting to higher ground as we speak. Being a houston resident, i can honestly say that i have never seen the traffic the way it is now. All major roadways such as I-45, I-10, Hwy 59, and SH290 is bumper to bumper. Many people have been on the road since last night and have only made 10 miles in progress since then. People on the roads are running out of gas, and as part of the state's plan for evacuation, a gas company has now beemn contracted to provide gas to those stranded on the roadways. Living closest to Huffmeister and 290, i currently have one of the toughest places to get out of. The 290 and Huffmeister, Telge, and Barke…

I came across an article at MSN homepage that describes a study conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS0). Apparently, aircraft pilots and flight engineers have the second most dangerous job (i.e., almost at the top of the list for dying at ones job). Specifically the article indicated: 2. Aircraft pilots and flight engineers Fatalities: 92.4 per 100,000 employed Median pay: $129,250

just gotta let it be known that ITVV is really a great little company. Just got another video DVD (I have five). The latest for me is the 747 Cathay, excellent. I was not even expecting delivery for another couple of weeks (I am in the US).I have noticed though that there have been no new ones out for awhile, I hope this is not because of 911.Anyway, just thought I would let others know (no, I dont work for them)

Just wanted to let you guys know that Tropical Storm Rita is currently in the florida keys, headed for the gulf coast. Rita is expected to make landfall early saturday morning just south of galveston. It is being thought to make landfall just east of New Orleans to just south of Corpus Christi, but the predicted path is to hit the Houston Metro Area.Last time we had a hurricane was in the early 80's. A few years ago, tropical storm Allison flooded the city, leaving it a giant lake. We havent had the pleasure to deal with something like this in over 20 years, but its on the way. Just wanted to post in case some people havent heard about it.As for me, being a houston reside…

HIGH FLIGHT =========== Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth(1), And danced(2) the skies on laughter silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed(3) and joined the tumbling mirth(4) Of sun-split clouds(5) and done a hundred things(6) You have not dreamed of -- Wheeled and soared and swung(7) High in the sunlit silence(8). Hov'ring there(9) I've chased the shouting wind(10) along and flung(11) My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long delirious(12), burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights(13) with…

Greetings...over the past few weeks, world and local events have caused many topics of discussion. Three things come to my mind:* Forum members have divergent and equally compelling points of view* Discussion and debate has been lively, but courteous. Decorum has reigned* AVSIM has been exemplary in allowing these interesting topics to exist and continueI for one am proud of AVSIM and my fellow forum members. This is truly what democracy is about!bt
