Sony's XCP copy protection system for its CDs is a so-called "root-kit" that hides itself deep inside the Windows operating system. In other words, playing a CD with this system makes secret changes to XP. Apparently, Sony only used it on sales in the USA so the rest of us should be OK.Although Sony has stopped using it, Microsoft has decided that it is malicious software and will put utilities to find and remove the XCP system in the next update of its anti-spyware software. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4430608.stmhttp://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4434852.stm

I saw the announcement on avsim about a new megascenery volume 5 for the east coast regions. I already got two megascenery packs and this one interested me a bit so I went to the megascenery site to look for screenshots. There weren't many so I looked in the forum for some more and came across this:-http://www.pcaviator.com/megascenery/forum...?showtopic=1143I don't have much money so this annoyed me a bit since I already got megascenery northern california and New York, and they are the two which say they have a lot more than they really have. I actually bought the megascenery california instead of VFR Photo Scenery USA for san francisco because it said it had bigger co…

Fellow Flight Sim Enthusiast,What do you think about posting ones age as part of a post's title? Yes, I know this is an out of the box question, but let me explain. First, it's not about age discrimination; everyone, regardless of age, should be able to post anything subject matter related per the forum(s) rules. As you all know, we see all types of postings: questions, request for help, opinions, etc. Each poster comes from an age group that carries a style, expectations, almost like a protocol. Understanding that may best serve the posters and the readers. A 45yr old like me may missinterpret the meaning of an expression by a 13yr old sim fan. Conversely a 13yr …

Apologies in advance for mentioning a rival site but can anyone access simflight.com or their forums? They appear to be down and I'm getting a warning about a potentially unsafe certificate. Hacked or loss of servers? First time I can remember such a problem for them.Cheers,

Hi all-After 7 months of bugging the FAA and ICAO, we finally got an international callsign. It turns out, we are the first Part 91 operation in a few years to be approved for this. The catch?Out of all the requests we sent in, the ONLY callsign that was available was "FOOT PRINT" and ICAO automatically assigned it. AAAAAAHHHH! For the next year, thats what we'll be calling ourselves!!! It first it kinda bothered me, but now I think it's rather funny. The problem is most of the other pilots hate it. What do you guys think? Can anyone guess the meaning of "FOOT PRINT" in terms of aerial survey?Mike

The departure from JFK,on a Boeing 767 was uneventful.A great flying machine.Arrive at Charles-De-Gaulle LFPG,Paris France,8hs latter, with a sore butt.I knew then that my next leg to Naples Italy, may be more exiting.I noticed a large section of the "what ever that Quonset looking long bldg".is, had collapsed.I board an Air France Airbus ,A218/219,I think?, a ratty looking thing.Believe me it was not a "Jet Blue Airbus." Got seated, and while shoving back,I notice the luggage latch not appearing to be shut. Buzzed a stewardess, and after sign language "Monkey talk" ,she got the guy from up front. He looked ,and he said "AAAH!,to which I interpreted to mean , Don't worry,…

Morning all.Something different here.Next March I'm taking my family, including a 22-month toddler to the Gold Coast in Australia from NZ.I haven't been overseas since 1983 when I was 17, so my knowledge of international travel is zilch, especially with young children.So....instead of taking a "she'll be right" attitude, I'm looking to become a bit more travelling savvy. Parental responsibility maybe? To this end, does anyone know of websites that have information for novice, "virgin" international travellers, maybe full of hints and tips that people have learned from experience? And I mean basic. For example, should you collect your luggage at a stop-over point, or does i…

I'm still walking around with a silly grin hours later. Mother nature finally cooked up the right combination of weather today, and I got to do my first solo cross-country flight. It was just a little 60nm hop from Portland Troutdale (KTTD) to Carlson/Lewis County (KTDO), but it felt great to finally break free of the Portland area and really go flying! And don't let anyone tell you FS can't come in handy when training for the real thing, either. I got a little confused on my headings when climbing past the BTG VOR and veered off-course a little to the left. However, I had already flown the flight in FS, and recognized immediately that things were amiss. Thanks to a little…
