  2. PARIS (AFP) - The Airbus A380, the world's largest commercial airliner, took its first passengers aloft on a test flight, as the company announced a fresh management shakeup to grapple with delays plaguing the superjumbo. "It's fabulous, impressive," gushed Ludovic Lesbats, one of 474 Airbus employees who volunteered for a seven-hour flight designed to test the plane's cabin arrangements.Passengers speaking to reporters after the 6,500-kilometer (4,062-mile) trip across Europe hailed the aircaft's quietness and the comfort of its interior."We didn't feel the take-off ... and people could move about without any discomfort," Lesbats said. Hey everyone... I am in the planning stages for purchasing an airplane. One of the things I am planning for is possibly buying a "raw" plane with nothing special to it at a lower cost, and using the extra money to customize the avionics. paint, etc the way I want it, as well as having enough extra in case some sqawks come up.As I was browsing through some avionics, I came across the Bendix/King KX-125. http://www.avionix.com/store//media/king/KX-125.jpgHas anyone had any experience using this unit? What is your thoughts on it?I like how it has a built in CDI, but I'm wondering about the whole unit is in general.Something like this would be great for a secondary Nav/Comm …

Hi all.Decided it's time to ask. I have three issues relating to the airline business that I'm keen on an explanation to. Please see below:RPK'sSeem to be very significant in assessing an airline's profitability/cost structure. I know what it stands for, but how does it fit into the airline business?FUEL HEDGINGAgain, I understand the basic concept, but find it hard to understand why some airline's don't do it (Virgin Blue is one). Given fuel is more likely to increase in price than go down, why would you NOT do this?"OPTIONS" ......when purchasing aircraft. I often read "XXX airline has bought 15 XXX aircraft, with an option to buy 7 more".So? Hasn't an airline always go…

In trying to reconstruct the tragic Comair crash in Lexington, CNN has aired this video showing their attempt to reconstruct the scene from the pilot's viewpoint. Lo and behold - they are using Flight Sim. Quote from site: CNN's Brian Todd tries to get the pilot's perspective before the fatal plane crash in Kentuckyhttp://www.cnn.com/video/player/player.htm...ilots.view.whasFinal note: I am not advocating using Flight Sim to recreate ANY tragedy.

Today, 61 years after the end of World War II, a memorial was dedicated in Lincoln Cathedal to the aircrew of RAF Bomber Command who lost their lives in that war.The reason for the delay is because politicians, having ordered these aircrew to risk their lives bombing Germany, got cold feet when they became aware of the results. And risk their lives they did - 51% of all Bomber Command aircrew were killed on operations, 9% were killed in crashes in England, 3% were serious injured in crashes, 13% survived being shot down, and only 24% survived the war unharmed.Whatever the morality of the bombing campaign, these aircrew did what they were ordered and many paid the price. T…

I rented a Tomahawk the other day and before I flew it I was reading some owners reviews about the aircraft. They all mentioned the 11,000 or so hour airframe life restriction because of the main spar. I kept searching around and must have missed what caused this restrictions. I didn't check the AD's yet because I really don't want to look through them all for an answer ;-)

Hi EveryoneI was recently (6 months ago) in Lexington KY and used the Blue Grass airport. I was saddened to hear about the CRJ crash there a couple of days ago and have been following the story on CNN and their website since.Interestingly they have an Ex NTSB Investigator using what looks very much like FS9 (right down to the red parking brakes notification) to demonstrate to a reporter how the take off would have looked and what went wrong. The reporter claims it's special software (ok deep down we all know Microsoft Flight Simulators are special) and then says that they're in a CRJ. The panel looks like the stock 737 400 panel. On the big screen they've "blued" out …

Trying to understand something about VOR navigation. Took me a minute to figure this one out. For fun, try your luck. 10 second time limit (no cheating!).You've tuned the "ABC" VOR. You have selected the 90-degree radial (on the course index), your heading is 270 degrees, the CDI needle is to the left, and the To/From flag is indicating To. Roughly where would you turn your head to look in direction of the actual VOR (12 o'clock, 1 o'clock, 2 o'clock, etc.) and which direction (Left/right) would you turn to intercept the radial?

Hello there, I'm going on vacation soon and I'll be flying from EHAM to KMEM and then to KIAH (and three weeks later back to EHAM via KMSP). I have about two hours, two and a half even between flights and would like to check out the traffic at Memphis. I've checked the website, but I can't seem to find anything regarding an observation deck. Perhaps some of you are more familiar with the airport. If there isn't one, where would be a good place to see some of the action? Thanks.

  21. OK, so attempting to get to Flight1's websites this morning came up with site unreachable, so I looked into it a little more and it's provided with (minimally) DNS from a place called globalcompass. It appears that globalcompass didn't pay for their domain, so the DNS servers for Flight1 are offline - ok, annoying but happens. But looking into it further, globalcompass's information changed from "registrar-lock" to "clientRenewProhibited" this morning. Renew prohibited? I've not heard of that status flag before, and was curious if anyone knew the story here, and when the affected customers would get their sites back online?update1, ok, looks like the servers have beco…

I'm looking to do my PC specs, but in a LOT smaller version than just the plain text you see below.I've seen people do their PC specs & other sim info in really small 6-point or 8-point fonts, and I was wondering if those are HTML linked-to graphic images like my other banners...Thanks in advance!
