It appears the FAA has learned from airline management on how to put the squeeze on its poor workers. I mean who cares if NASA studies have shown 10 minute catnaps in a cockpit would be beneficial........FAA Tells Controllers No More Naps During Breaks Sat, 09 Sep '06Resting Workers Face 10-Day SuspensionsIn a move many air traffic controllers call ill-advised in the wake of circumstances surrounding the crash of Comair Flight 5191, the FAA has taken a tougher line recently with controllers who are caught napping during work breaks. The rule -- which states a controller who naps during break times could be suspended for up to 10 days -- isn't new. In the past, however, con…

I read once about the Terrenife crash that talked about one of the pilots. He siad that after the crash that he reached up to turn some switches off. Once realizing that the top was gone off the plane, he looked back and said" man, this is a big plane"I guess after flying for some time, you tend to forget about the people in the back. Do pilolt ever go for a visit anymore?JimCYWG

Just watched a 1989 news clip touting the promise of the Ultra High Bypass (UHB) Propfan, or Unducted Fan engine (UDF). I'm not an expert, so I was wondering: What became of this technology? It doesn't appear on many aircraft I've seen. Am I just out of the loop?

This is my first post as a fairly new FS9 user and I am in need of some serious help in clearing my confusion in what is what with addons particularly in the scenery realm. If I have this right, you have the Terrain Mesh, Buffer Mesh, Landclass, Ground Textures and VFR Scenery (Weather, Roads, Airport, etc). Please correct me if I'm wrong here.Don't mind payware and probably lean that way as reflected below. As someone that wants to get it right from the start, here's what I thought of getting and wanted to see if I'm way off in my understanding of what they (the programs) do, duplicating efforts, etc...Terrain/Buffer Mesh: FSGenesis, FSGlobalGround Textures: FSScene,…

OK - it's science project time again . . . . My 16 year old wants to do something with planes and/or aerodymanics this year. Since he also enjoys flight simulation, we were trying to come up with a worthwhile project that involved FS9 rather than the real-world. Since many of the available 3rd party arcraft have such realistic flight models, it seems that FS9 could be used for testing rather than having to go out and buy an airplane . . . He thought that FS9 could be the 1st step in testing since it is a computer model after all. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks -hockey10

I feel a little uneasy about this offer. Using the death of Steve Irwin for promotional purposes just seems a little off to me.I'm sure they had the best of intentions.Mike

Mon September 4 - 2006On the holiday Monday weekend I decided to go for a little bike ride over to CYYZ (Toronto International Airport), as the Toronto AirShow was going on and I wanted to see the mil jets "up close and personal". I live adjacent (about 1 mile from CYZD (Downsview) and about 7nm from CYYZ. It was a nice sunny/cool day, and with most of the ride being downhill to the airport, it wasn't that difficult a ride. .. Except I had a headwind of ~10-15 kts the whole way !Well about an hour or so later, I finally arrived at the Dixon Road / Highway 27 bridge, which is situated about 1 nm right in line with rwy 06L. I stopped for a breather, and flipped on my sc…

For those that haven't seen it or heard about it, 4 A380's performed a formation flight yesterday over the Med and southern France. I just checked the A380 Navigator site, and they have a couple of pictures and a short video clip:http://www.airbus.com/store/photolibrary/A...ic4_320X240.swfhttp://events.airbus.com/A380/default1.aspxWhat an amazing sight! :D

Hello,I am looking at a career change and I was wondering if anybody has any information about a career as aircraft dispatcher.I already know that the salary is pretty low to start but there is 6 figure potential after years of experience at a major airline. I also know that most courses are 5 week courses followed by FAA certification. I know some colleges have Bachelor Degree programs but I already have a 4 year degree and I don't want to go down that route again. Is this a worthy career option. Is it fairly easy to get a entry level job with a small carrier at least?Right now, the cost for school doesn't bother me too much and I don't mind starting off at the bottom. I …

Hello everyone, I didn't know where to post this. It just came to my attention that Steve Irwin (The croc hunter) has been killed while filming an underwater segment today, by a stingray wound to the heart. I admired this man and his work very much. He will be sorely missed. I hope he is in a better place. He is survived by his wife and young son. I don't know how many simmers watched his work, but he was an individual that loved life, his work, and family to the fullest. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends.

Some friendly advise, the newest PerfectDisk defrag progam was released this week at Raxco.com. I have tried many, many defrag programs, including O&O Defrag, and Diskeeper, and I like this one the best. Keep your FS installation in its own partition and use PerfectDisk's "Smart Defrag" function to sort files by age & usage and you'll be golden. Also, be sure to run the "offline" defrags on each partition every once in a while to cleanup the MFT zone and so forth. Also, let PerfectDisk manage your boot and Layout.ini files in WinXP for fast boot-ups. If you have a lot of texture files from a lot of additional scenery utilities and programs, a quality defrag p…
