I have already reported in other forums, that I have decided to support FS9 with 'serious' aircraft and add-ons. So Far, I have purchased the PMDG 737-800/900 and the 747-400 'Queen of the Skies'. Also. on recommendations, I have purchased and downloaded, Active Sky (so, extremely cool) and FS2Crew, (an unbelievably, great add-on for immersive, FS realism). I guess the reason for my post is that I'm at the stage where I need some encouragement from fellow members, because, right now, I feel a little lost and it's not because of the A/C and add-ons I have purchased. The fact is, I'm not a Pilot but I'd love to have had the foresight, in my early life, to become one. Suffic…

hey all...my good friend and roommate from college is a real world Super Hornet pilot. right now, he's stationed at NAS Oceana and i'm fortunate enough to live a short distance away. actually, i live closer to Langley AFB and get to see F-22's flying around all the time. i was out on the golf course one time and they flew their final approach right over me, just as i was about to swing. i looked up and they were about 1500-ft. above my head. quite a spectacular sight. personally, i work at Fort Eustis where i get to see helicopters all the time. our hangar has at least one of every rotorcraft in the current Army fleet.anyway, my friend has been flying the Super since the …

Hey all,I wondered if airports are operational 24 hours a day, or do aircraft have to takeoff and land before a particular time due to regulations on night flights and noise?

Hi all,I know its easy to get a copy of POHs and checklists for most GA aircraft but I always have a problem locating POHs or checklists for commercial airliners.I always find it fascinating to look through operating handbooks or system manuals for commercial aircraft ranging from Cessna's Citation Jets to Airbus' 330s. I managed to get an A320 FMGS operating manual off a pilot flying for Gulf Air, its incredibly detailed and really adds realism to my simulated flights! I seem to be able to get a hold of real world checklists and systems manuals for most Airbus aircraft however I always fall short when I look for Boeing checklists or operating manuals. Anybody know why th…

A first-season episode entitled "The Crepes of Wrath" featured an Air France Airbus A340-300 before said plane even entered service within the aforementionned company.Evidence: some footage showed 8 seats abreast in charter configuration (the plane did not feature the 2nd deck of any 747 version). I do not think the 707 had so many seats abreast. But it had 4 engines.I believe that Airbus paid the Simpsons' staff (the amount of it is not known) to display its airplane.

Hi All,I recently got FSX and was more or less happy with what I got (besides frame rates but thats an entirely different story:)). The biggest problem is that I was trying to find some add-ons that would include cabin annoucements. When using FS 2004 that was one of the things that I thought really added to the realism and now I cant seem to get it to work in FSX. I downloaded S-COMBO (which I used before) as well as the updated FSXYX.DLL (not sure what it is called FSUIPC.DLL or something rather) but when I run S-COMBO after FSX is running I get a "subscript out of range" error.Anyone have any ideas of how I can get the cabin crew announcements back for FSX?Any help gre…

Does anyone know how the airport code naming scheme works in USA?I ran into an airport called McClure or Troy McClure. However it has two codes PN21 and 75N and both belong to the same airport (airnav.com).Which is the "better" or newer code? Are the three letter N codes being phased out? This has nothing to do with IATA or ICAO codes - I know about those.ThanksPaul

I need some help here regarding Internet Explorer and AVSIM.I'm not sure exactly as to whether this is a problem with my setup or what.My problem is as follows:Every time I try to access www.avsim.com I am automatically redirected to the Hangar page. I can access the main AVSIM page, however, by typing just avsim.com into the Address bar. No images show when I do this though. This is an annoying occurance but I'm sure it is no fault of AVSIM's. So, can anyone help here? Is it a problem with my options in IE or another setup related issue? Please note that I have tried deleting cookies and temporary internet files and all that, but to no avail.Thank you to anyone who can hel…

I've been a sim pilot for about three years now and have recently been given a financial opportunity to finally go out and train for a recreational or (preferably) a private pilot's certificate. The biggest problem physically however, is that I was born with cataracts, so I wear congenitive cataract contact lenses (which mainly means I don't see more than 20/40). I'm aware that a class 3 medical only requires 20/40, but here's my problem. I also have monovision which only enables me to use my right eye for distance and my left eye for near-sight. I wear 2 different-powered contacts, one for the distance and one for the near-sight.I've been looking all over the web, and …

Adam aircraft has a small manufacturing plant here in northern Utah, but they're in the process of significantly expanding it, and will soon be building 500 and 700 components. Last week while I was out mowing the lawn, I heard what sounded like a bizjet fly over at low altitude, and looked up to see an A700 going right over the house. Sure is a pretty plane when viewed in flight. Reminded me a little of a P-38. Of course it was long gone by the time I could run in and grab my camera.

I did not want to post this query on the FSX forum to keep it somewhat enclosed. I asked about FSX delivery on October 17th (Letters To The Editor) and Tom A. said that as of the 14th no product had been delivered from Microsoft. A subsequent msg on that forum brought no further response. A message to the Simpilot (the real storefront) has brought no response.Since I have seen no credit card charge and no product I was wondering if I am an isolated case????Thanks,Dick near airport 5G8

Whenever I take off (or land) in any kind of wind situation, the aircraft strays off course on the runway. This is particularly common in smaller planes but also but larger jets.I understand why this happens perfectly well. I can do most slipping, or crab approaches quite good. But once on the runway, I'm like a drunk driver. It makes me think that this can't really be the way to take off in a real plane? That would be a major risk factor, particularly in larger passenger jets.I haven't been able to figure out a way of coping with it. What do you do to keep it straight on the RW and not having to fight and prevent an up-close study of mother nature? As a sidenote: I flew (…

Went to the movie Fly Boys last night. I was highly disappointed. The acting is weak, the air scenes are a little too theatrical/unrealistic for the period and generally I thought the plot was both predictable and thin. Frankly, I'm an airplane NUT, but I got bored. We left early. Just a bit too stereotypical with not enough plot line. Don't waste your money IMHO. Eric

Just caught word of this...Boeing is now expanding the BBJ line to include the BBJ3. It is based on the airframe of the 739ER.Read the full press release here:http://www.boeing.com/news/releases/2006/q4/061016a_nr.htmlWish I had enough money for one of those things; now that would be flying in style!:-kewlSean

Just a short note...DHL (my employers!) bought a 49% stake in Polar Air this week and also signed a 20 year cargo contract of afreightment. No integration is planned, but we will immediately start using their lift capacity for heavy air freight and parcel business in the pacific as a major addition to our own fleet and long term cargo contracts with NWA.Not sure yet whether this will result in any B742's painted in DHL yellow, but...probably. Also suspect that Polar Air aircraft will eventually start direct lift into DHL hubs. Eric
