This URL takes you to a very good comparison of several well known virus checkers. No use trying to figure out FSX problems if you are infected:http://www.av-comparatives.org/Regards,Dick Boley

Ok, so since I soloed, I have flown several more times- soloing again (for 5 touch and gos) and a few more flights with my instructor practicing more maneuvers (engine outs, steep turns, stalls, different landing types, etc). My second solo was AWESOME. Much, much better. I greased five landings, and then got really hot and sweaty (I didn't take my jacket off before departing, and even in 30 degrees the plane got hot inside) so that was that.I am adamant about flying to other airports since I feel a bit spoiled at KHVN. 5600x150 and VASI lights. Clear markers for every turn in the pattern. It has become very routine, and I don't feel like I'm learning as much flying…

I'm thinking of writing a small program to help me with route management and calculation. I'm asking if the AIRAC cycle is all that I need to get all the LAT/LONG positions of navaids so that my program can calculate and estimated flight distance if I plug in the flight plan? Do I need something else, or is there a more definitive reference for navigational information. Thanks :)

Hey there, hope everyone had a great christmas!I got a new Joystick and found that it had 12 programmable bnttons, my old one only had 8. So i ask the members of Avsim forums for an insight into the world of their joysticks, what buttons couldnt you live without on your joystick?I have no idea what else to put onto mine apart from trim, gear and cycle views. I fly commercial, mainly the PMDG 737ng so any ideas of what to do with the spare buttons would be greatly appreciated.Have a great day,Dave

Hi all,On the Windows Vista site, it says that Vista will be released on January 30th, would it be a good idea to buy it then as far as will games run faster if I install Vista? Also, does that mean it will come with DirectX10? And even then will it improve performance in games and sims, or will the game programmers need to make a patch in order for the game to run faster, I also understand that we will need a new video card that is DirectX10 capable for us to enjoy any performance benefits?

I was doing my regular weekend trawl over the flight sites -- and a question came up; thought I'd ask the experts in here. There are a lot of planes that to me look similar. Is there a reason (other than say "family" presence -- ie, airline prefers all Airbus) to chose one or the other? For example:A320 vs. B737To me, other than the design differences, these two look almost the same. I don't know performance/range wise, so I'm hoping others can chime in. Are these planes used on the same routes by different operators? Is there a concrete difference between the two?Another one that I am curious about:Saab 340B vs. EMB 120Would love to hear your opinions and other aircraft …

Greetings all!Due to personal circumstances (of both the good and sad kind) I've been away from flightsimming and its related forums for several months, and I'm only slowly "coming back". I haven't forgotten y'all though, so: may the year 2007 bring you all the good things that you wish for!Be well!Jaap Verduijn.

So I had forgotten that I booked a lesson for this afternoon until I looked at the schedule online. I called the ASOS and it reported 260 at 3 knots. Nice. My boss was out today, so I asked the second in command if I could sneak out this afternoon. He said that's fine, and I grabbed a sandwich to go at a local shop. It was a big "Sicilian" sub, and even though it was delicious (spicy!) I decided I should only eat half, just in case my instructor wanted to do any 'unusual attitude' practice. That is where you close your eyes, or put on some foggles, and the instructor jockeys the plane around for a good thirty seconds or so until you don't know which way is up, and th…

check this out. QSST=Quiet Supersonic Transport.http://www.saiqsst.com/ Allan Paulson former CEO of Gulfstream, has a new company called Quiet Supersonic Transport, Inc. their goal is to create a quiet SST executive aircraft. They engaged Lockheeds skunkworks to do the design. The website above is very interesting in looking at the future of this technology. They have apparently figured out how to create an SST aircraft that is fuel efficient and suppresses the sonic boom.Eric

So, the company that I bought an aircraft from decides to close shop. While it is open I agree that I should not give my aircraft and code to anyone. Now that the company is finished business, can I give away the program and code? No one is going to be hurt if I do this.jimCYWG

Hello,Let me warn you now, this may get kinda long, so please just bear with it.Let me start out by saying this: I have a passion for Helicopters. I have no clue where this comes from either. When I was a child, other than trying to build an airplane out of my Red Flyer and some "scrap" lumber, I didn't really have much of a introduction into aviation. However, my father did take me to two airshows in the south Louisiana area in the early 90s. One Blue Angels show and some other large aircraft show (I just remember a lot of large aircraft on the tarmac and thinking that a turbine looked alot like the fan in my room.) With the Blue angels I don't remember much, but I…

Here's a note from a Raptor driver bud of mine stationed out at Edwards--F-22 is amazing!"OK - my first chance to let the F-22 loose on takeoff. I was the last IOT&E pilot at Edwards and it was only a few months before I was to move to Langley . The test folks were nice enough to still let me fly there occasionally, and they had a perfect mission for me. It was a single ship, no test support (control room) required, and I had my own tanker. All I had to do was takeoff and fly around for 2 hours collecting data from the MLD's (missile launch detectors). In other words it was a free sortie with a lot of gas available and I had the airspace to myself since it didn't…
