Hi All,This question recently occurred to me and I thought, where else better to get a good answer than at AVSIM?I know that airport runways are placed to take advantage of the prevailing winds at the airport site.Has there ever been an instance where over the years subsequent construction of buildings in the airport vicinity have altered the prevailing wind pattern to an extent that the airport became more difficult to use or even effectively unuseable? -Rick----------- My System -----------P4 @ 2.53 GHz / 1GB RAM / NVIDIA GeForce 6800XT, 256MB / Windows XP Home

Hi all, just wanted to say thank you to the people of the UAE and all of the other participating nations of the exercise we just completed. I have a new view of the Middle East and it's people. Everyone treated us like friends, thanks again. Now I have to find out what I missed in the flight sim world.Jeff

Hello, I've been having some strange problems the past while on my computer and I wondered if anyone had some advice. What happens is when windows update runs, a svchost.exe process suddenly starts using 99% of the CPU, and keeps at it until windows update is done. Normally it only uses 30-40% CPU in my experience before on this same system. This appears to happen somewhere around when I've copied files from my laptop, either over a network, or via flash usb drives, to the main computer. The first time I formatted the main computer, restored files from the backup hard drive, and it came back. I formatted once again, not restoring from the backup drive and all was well. Ju…

So yesterday I booked 3 hours with my instructor, and for the first hour we went into the classroom and went over my presolo exam. I did pretty well, and alot of it is common sense, but the FAA can be tricky at times. For instance, one of the questions is something like "Is striking another aircraft with rocks and debris during run-up considered reckless operation of an aircraft?". No, it's not a trick question. On the other hand, a question that seems obvious like "You contact a class C controller and ask permission to enter, and he tells you to standby. Are you allowed to enter?". And the answer is actually, yes, as LONG AS HE CALLS YOUR TAIL NUMBER. Weird, but O…

Hello,I'm working/Modifying my Gulfstream G550, I just recently added an APU into the panel. My question is was it a waste of time, or keep it in for more realization purposes? When I do switch it on, I get Power to a already Cold & Dark Cockpit; but I can just turn on the Master Battery, and it does the same thing. Is there more that I can do (or have to do) to the APU to make it more realistic, or is that about it? I'm also looking for a nice looking APU (if there is such a thing) to add/change to my Plane. The one I have I can't remember where I got it from but it looks okay. Not sure if it matters or not but my Plane, and Panel are for my own personal use.ThanksJ.…

I've finished updating my Sectional Charts of the US collection for google earth. This newest version includes Alaska and should work much better than previous versions since it uses about 40,000 differnt tiles at different resolutions so the resolution increases as you zoom in. Google Earth 4 is required.Anyway, you can grab the KML file from here http://www.topomaps.fox-fam.com/I haven't done a lot of testing of these yet so if you notice any problems let me know.Matt

I know I have caught some posts here that there is a medivac pilot that I believe flys citations on the eastern coast and carribean. I've read your posts and flight experience and I feel like that is the path I'd like to take in my career. Any help getting me in contact with this person would be much appreciated!

I frequently/often have problems logging in to Avsim. Even after sucessfully logging in, if i then follow a link from a thread, i'm often then logged out - even if i only use forward or back keys.I've tried every setting i know how in IE7 (also happend with IE6). I also have Avsim.com listed as a 'safe' site on my 'Privicy' list!Really, REALLY anoying when i've just typed in a lengthy reply, only to then loose it all!It doesn't happen on any other forum site - just here. Any ideas what else i might try?

Ok,So my last few lessons have been the routine pre-solo stuff- do some maneuvers, and then do a crapload of touch and gos- full flaps, no flaps, short approach, slips, etc. However, probably due to luck, I had not had to deal with much wind. Today changed that! When getting out of my car (behind the rather large FBO building) I could feel a pretty good... no make that strong wind. I could just see the windsock by the tower, and it was pegged horizontally. Maybe the FBO forgot to call and tell me my lesson was cancelled due to weather? As I went inside, I was half hoping that was the case...I say hi to the manager behind the desk as he's shuffling some papers. He …

Nvidia and AMD (ATI) have been served by the DOJ's Antitrust division supoenas in their investigation of possible anitrust violations in the GPU market. No one seems to know exactly what the issue is, or what effect it will have on each companies future developments of GPU's. (Hopefully not much) You know though what can happen when the Government sticks it's nose into it!
