I was just over on another FSwebsite which name will be left untold, but man, it has the most negative people on it, just rude, unhelpful users. I just wanted to say thank you to avsim for being a very welcoming, helpful place to visit. Very helpful users, and very professional as OPPOSED to this one site in question. This thread has no point, so if it has to be moved or deleted feel free, I just couldnt beleive how unfriendly this one FS site was. Thanks again

Hi guys.Figured it's time to get back into some simming...I was an avid simmer and regular poster until, gulp, I met a girl last June.Well, she's 35, so hardly a girl! She turned my world upside down, thought I had met "The One", and as usual in times of much turmoil, hobbies and regular haunts such as here get relegated to "almost ran" status. Separated from my partner and three kids ( which was inevitable at some stage anyway), left my job of 24 years and moved further north to begin my new life. But alas, two Fridays ago, I had to end it. Reasons are as many as they are complicated, but at the end of the day the committment wasn't going both ways, and a bloke can only be…

I thought I'd start up a discussion:What are your thoughts about aerobatics? I know there are a lot of people in here who've never really gotten into it, but I can't help thinking that those pilots are missing out on the finer points of precision flight.Do you believe aerobatics are important for becoming a better hands-on pilot? If not, why not? Also, do you believe spin training can potentially make one a safer pilot? Why? Why not?I've started getting into advanced aerobatics in FS2004 (there are some maneuvers that can't really be done in FS2004 due to the lack of gyroscopic effect modelling etc, but most can be, especially in an aircraft such as the RealAir Spit), and …

Last night I played on FS9 after three weeks and oh gosh it was so embarassing Im glad another simmer was not watching http://www.nextgenerationrecords.co.uk/boa...es/icon_eek.gifHopped in an SAS 737-600 for a flight from Oslo-Tromso, climb, cruise, descent ok but the approach and landing was horrible, all over the GS, sloppy management, AS not nailed..... I was disgusted with myself. But it was also interesting...it appears that us simmers suffer the same skill-erosion as our real-life counterparts?!Mleh!

Well it was -40C at CYWG today. Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA.That is the same temp as F. A jet flew over today going north west to somewhere in ASIA. At that temp, the plane sounds like it is landing here. There is no sound so unique as the sound of a jet flying over in -40 temp. For those of you in the south, there is nothing to compare it to.JimCYWG

Ryanair's aircrew have recently been critised in official reports over a series of dangerous approaches. Ryanair's policy is now "...any event involving any of our aircraft passing the 500 foot landing-gate incorrectly configured or at excessive speed, which triggers a GPWS hard warning - and which does not perform a go-around - will automatically be demoted in the case of the first transgression of this policy. In the event of a second transgression of the policy, the relevant crew member will be automatically dismissed." Provision is made for exeptional circumstances. This was triggered by an event in which the catain decided not to go-around but flew in a tight circle…

He,he...........This is how an article in the newest AOPA PILOT magazine describes the rivalry between Microsoft's Flight Simulator and X-Plane :D Quote: "Comparing Flight Simulator to X-Plane is like comparing Windows to Macs. Both operating systems and simulations inspire devotion bordering on religious fanaticism." Anyway, a great article worth reading; and one of the highlights is the fact, that contrary to past thinking, more than not, flight simming can be very beneficial to a student before taking flight instruction. Seems that the student is much more prepared. But then, I'm not surprised one bit! :)L.Adamson

Almost 10 years after the first sightings, one of the most controversial and strange UFO events of recent history has apparently come back for an encore. The military is already claiming these are flares. They don't look like flares at all to me, but this link has some video which you can watch and make up your own mind.http://cbs4.com/topstories/local_story_038103140.htmlAlso, here is a link to the website about the recently released DVD documenting the first sightings almost 10 years ago. Lots of video & pics there to chew on too.http://www.thephoenixlights.net/More history (and legends) about the 1997 case from a UFO website. http://www.ufocasebook.com/phoenixli…

Does the FAA or airline regs require their pilots to turn on ALL lights (strobes, taxi lights, landing lights, recog, etc.) on taxi, or takeoff, even during the daytime? How about on landing? Are all lights supposed to be ON for landing, too? Anyone know how that all works?RhettAMD 3700+ (@2310 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 2.5-3-3-8 (1T), WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian case

It's been 41 days since I've flown. My company relocated me from Boston to Memphis (again), and my computer is in storage with my rudder pedals, yoke, and other goodies until I sell my house and buy one in TN.Since FS3, I have never gone more than two weeks without at least one flight.Pathetic Activity 1:Out of boredom, I've been picking destinations from AirNav flights and creating flight plans in a spreadsheet and using anticipated fuel burn based on weight, speed, and current weather conditions and comparing the progress to the real-time flights.Pathetic Activity 2:I've also been downloading manuals for products I own, but never RTM.Pathetic Activity 3:I read crash repo…

For any parents or teachers here, I'm interested in hearing how old your kid(s) were when they started to understand numbers , counting, and what methods you used to teach them. I'm guessing that they learned to verbally count before they could read and write ?I don't have kids, but I'm thinking of creating some educational software. From the little that I've seen so far, the common method seems to be to show one...two ..three ... XXXX number of objects along with either the words "one", "two", "three" or the numbers "1", "2" .. "3".I'm also curious how kids learn that seeing three (balls) for example, and the number / word "3" "three" means the same thing as three do…

If you were ever planning to fly in real life, or want to see general aviation continue in the real world, you really should consider joining the AOPA -RIGHT NOW- or you may lose the chance forever. The white house has submitted its budget for the 2007 fiscal year, and the new FAA budget, which is required to be decided by September, includes a 400% increase in fuel taxes and substantial user fees. The total cost of private flying is expected to increase over 500%.The reason for the increases and funding changes is that the government no longer wants the FAA to be tax-supported and wishes to move the costs of operation to pilots. We're being forced to foot the bill for a s…

  20. http://fogonazos.blogspot.com/2007/01/airp...our-garage.htmlFrom the article: "John Travolta is qualified in several types of single and multi-engine aircraft, and has the highest pilot medical certification possible. His house is located immediately off the main airstrip, and is designed so his jets can taxi right up to two outbuildings connected to the main structure, which is shaped like a squat air-control tower. "He uses the 707 as the family van," says Jumbolair developer Terri Jones. "The Gulfstream is his sports car."bt

  23. I wanted to get another copy for my son, and just called the store where I purchased my copy early this morning.I was STUNNED to find out that they have been given a call to totally ***REMOVE*** ALL COPIES OF THE XP OPERATING SYSTEM AND TO BE SHIPPED BACK TO MICROSOFT. The space is only to be for Vista. If ANYBODY wants to grab a copy, I suggest you make a move immediately from off a web site, or local store.MS this time is shoving Vista down the throat. Obviously, they are scared that it will be a bomb like ME.If you want one (any edition of XP), you'd better act fast. Nobody told me at the store they were removing their stock off of the shelf. Hello all! My wife and I are in the process of adopting our first child from Vietnam this year which we are very excited about....With all paperwork etc that we are going through I was looking at flight options too. We live in STL and will have to fly through LAX to connect to SE Asia. So the question is, what airline do I choose to get us over there? I would like some feedback from those that have had experience! EVA and Cathay are out of the question because of price (way too expensive compared to the others: So our routing choices are as follows:STL-LAX (AA)M83LAX-TPE (China Airlines) 744 or A343 depending on flight timesTPE-HAN (Vietnam Airlines) A321 STL-LAX (AA)752L…
