Somebody has sent me a Microsoft Powerpoint presentation of photos from the latest Russian airshow at Zhukovsky airport outside Moscow. Some of the a/c have to be seen to be believed - BIG MONSTER a/c , huge seaplanes, fighter aircraft manouvering just above ground.Check out this file ZHUKOVSKY.PPS at http://www.4shared.com/dir/2498263/14601170/sharing.htmlYou will need the free Powerpoint viewer to view it. The PPS viewer is very handy to have anyway and can be obtained here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...B7-A94784AF71A4Incredible a/cBarry

Will this month marks my 10th anniversary online and into that excellent hobby of flightsim. Well actually my first experience was back in 1987 on the Commodore Amiga 500. But I consider my real experience as starting back in April of 1997 when I purchased a compaq presario with a 200mhz CPU and 32mb RAM. I purchased FS95 that same day and was hooked. I started downloading add ons a few month later. Since then Ive owned every release of FS and purchased and downloaded thousands of add ons. When I purchase PC's I base them round my flightsim. That No*1 most important part of my PC. So how long have some of you guys been around FS?

What will happen to the A343,and the A345 when the B77W, and the B77L come into service? I heard that they will be retired. Will they sold to another airline, or scrapped?

Squadron Leader Neville Duke died recently aged 85, shortly after flying his Grumman Tiger, G-ZERO.Neville Duke was a WWII fighter pilot who flew 485 sorties and achieved 28 victories. After the war he became a test pilot with Hawker Aircraft Ltd and eventually became Chief Test Pilot. He set a World Speed Record of 728 mph in 1953 in a Hunter. He had to retire in 1956 following a crash in a Hunter which damaged his spine. This resulted in severe pain under g-forces which made it impossible for him to continue. Sadly, a couple of years ago he had to sell his medals, diaries and other memorabilia partly to pay for a hip replacement operation for his wife to avoid subjectin…

Did anyone hear about the girl who got kicked off Continental Airlines because of coughing? Continental been kicking a lot of people off. Its more like a privilege to ride with them. What does everybody thing about the situation? I'm pretty disappointed with them. But also it was a safe decision. I have mixed thoughts. First the pilot should of handled the problem with more responsibility. They could arranged another way to get her there, by maybe using smaller aircrafts to get her there, so they could stop easily if they have to. But it is also hard to find a landing place for the B777-224ER. They also could of at least payed for the room, clothing, and food. On the othe…

Lat night there was a runway incursion incident forcing a go around of a USAir 737, flight 1189 from KDCA at Orlando (KMCO). The go around was caused by a Continental jet crossing the arival runway and apparently cleared in time but activated a ground incursion alert system first installed at MCO and is now active in 9 airports in the US! I was listening to the Air Traffic for MCO tower using liveatc.net and noticed something interesting! While all the other airlines where prefixed wth their callsign (ie: American 123) This flight was only referred by it's number (1189) is this the common way to refer to USAIR flights? Should we be changing our AI callsigns for USAIR fli…

My son needed to buy a PC and a well-known and Inland Revenue approved business accounting package. (He's in graphics so normally uses Macs but it was cheaper to buy a new PC and package rather than pay the inflated price his existing supplier wanted for his existing Mac package!)He bought the PC and package at PC World (a leading UK supplier) who told him to get a PC with XP because there were problems with the package under Vista.

Yesterday French railways (SNCF) set a new world speed recordfor a train running on wheels of 357 mph (574 km/h) with its high-speed TGV.Even at the present speeds, TGV is competitive with internal air transport. It runs from city-centre to city-centre and there's no delays to check-in and to recover baggage etc.

The Court of Appeal in London recently ruled that "making a computer program which would emulate another computer program but without copying the program code did not constitute an infringement of copyright in the other program or in its preparatory design material."Nothing to stop anyone emulating Flight Simulator and offering a better product than Microsoft.

According to the BBC the firm responsible for providing in-flight maps for passenger displays on BA's fleet of Airbuses put Stansted Airport (EGSS) in the wrong place. Apparently they confused its location with a village some 40 miles away on the other side of the river Thames.http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/essex/6539015.stm

  18. So it's been about a month since I've done any real flying. 2 weeks ago I flew around the pattern, and today I did 6 or 7 touch and gos (unfortunately I can't remember, so I will log the former). The reason is because I decided about a month ago to bite the bullet and sign up to take the written. My brother and I signed up for this morning with the theory that if we have a definitive date, then we would be forced to study. So I started reading through FAR/AIM and doing practice tests online at various websites. I decided a few weeks ago to purchase a real test prep piece of software by Dauntless Software. Really good BTW if anyone is looking. As the weeks drew nearer I…

It's been ages and ages since I've last flown commercially real-world, but would like to find out a couple things that will eliminate a bit of guesswork when trying to operate sim commercial flights realistically that I've been meaning to ask for awhile.....Besides turning it on due to turbulence, at what point during climb and descent are the seatbelt signs turned off and on? I've been switching it off (when I remember to do it, that is) once I've reached cruise altitude and turn them back on at TOD, but since FS2Crew turns it off during climb (passing 10,000' on climb, I think, and passing FL200 or 10,000 on descent) and on during descent, I don't know which is "correc…

A couple of weeks ago, I boarded a customarily crammed late evening UA 777 at KIAD for EGLL. We departed the gate for takeoff but on the way to rwy 30, the captain announced there was a small problem with the nosewheel not working right. We turned back to the apron area for a visual inspection that lasted 5-8 mins. and then turned around and trundled back to rwy 30. Spool-up for takeoff was long and tentative--the last time such a spool up occurred I was on a UA 767 at KSFO and the takeoff was aborted half way down the runway because of failing engine indicators--but finally he hit the TO/GA button. We started down the runway but an instant later lurched to a crawl as…

Is flying in the mountains in the northeast usa such as ny, vt, nh, and me considered actual mountain flying? Mountain flying is pretty much always associated with the west and you don't really hear much about the east at all. Are these mountains big enough to create things such as rotors, lenticular clouds, and mountain waves?

http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2007/...production.htmlViking Air, who hold the type certificates for several de Havilland Canada aircraft, has confirmed that it will restart production of the DHC-6 Twin Otter. The new production run will include upgraded engines and a glass cockpit. They are also exploring demand for Beaver and single-engine Otter.I'm pretty excited by this news, firstly because the Twin Otter is a fantastic plane and secondly because Viking Air is just up the road from me at Victoria International (CYYJ). A couple of local operators fly float versions of the Twin Otter (and the Beaver and Turbo Otter as well) between downtown Victoria and Vancou…
