Why we board aircraft from the left?Because horses were mounted from the left. The early pioneers of flight often had experience of horses and out of habbit boarded their primative aircraft from the left. World war 1 aces carried on the practise, infact Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen (the red barron) was an acomplished horse rider giving him excellent balance, a skill that was usefull in his fokker triplane. Overtime people become accustomed to this and the idea stuck.Dave

Well, this is an interesting airline that I've read a little about before, seems they start service tomorrow, for $10 a ticket (not all tickets are this low) they could cramp me into the most uncomfortable seat they could imagine. Looks like they're using an Airbus 319 from the picture on this article.http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18785438/Edit to say, from looking at their route map, I'm shocked they don't offer service to my hometwon, Las Vegas, that would be at least a third of their ticket sales even among all the other destinations. Edit again to say, that I just realized how much even a single gate at KLAS would cost them, and though LA is offered, I don't see them …

Hi All,Just listening to the radio yesterday, and on came an article about Michael O Learys Ryanair planning to expand their low cost airline business across the Atlantic from Ireland/Europe to the US by purchasing from Boeing a number of 787 Dreamliners in the near future. The article stated that O Leary has huge influence over at Boeing, and if Ryanair decide to purchase the 787, they will jump the queue of potential purchasers to become one of the first airlines to operate the new plane. The fares could begin for as little as

Hey everyone... I got a question. I just bought a new LCD TV, and I got a DVI to HDMI cable along with it to hook it up via those connections. However, the display with those connections is really jittery along solid lines. i.e., solid images done flicker, but lines and text do. Does anyone know why this is happening and what I should do? I switched the VGA and the display looks fine. Thanks for any help!

I just got done reading an article in Flying magazing about how bizarre Paris's CDG airport is for a US pilot to fly into and taxi around. So I brought up my google map (actually google world) and took a look see. Well, it is quite messed up in terms of overall layout. Then got me looking at others as I am an architect by profession.nice ones...Hong KongDenver Coloradothe worst...London Heathrow - and I mean by far! I have never been there, but I have no idea how that random collection of structures even begins to work as anything much less an airport. It is a total maze, I still cant figure it out.Can you think of others, good or bad in terms of general layout?

The subject line about says it all. Why do we suddenly see the word finals describing the final approach phase of a flight? To me, final is the shortened form of final approach and finals is the shortened form of final exams.I've noticed it more and more in these forum and then today on AVSIM's front page. If finals is the abreviation, then should we call the last leg of the landing pattern finals approach or is it final approaches? Do you RW pilots see the phrase, "turning finals," or "on finals," in AOPA or similar publications or is it a sim thing?R-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skybus_Airlines. Incredible. I bet seat reclining is $.50 per 10 minutes of recline. Can you believe 156 seats on an A319.People must have to have their knees resting on someone's seatback too!

Larry;I'd have sent you a PM but you seem to have it disabled. I noticed a pic you had uploaded of Zion National Park and wondered if you would be willing to chat with me about it, and some other places in your neck of the woods. I have promised my 8 year old Grandson a trip out to the Four Cornersregion this summer in my motorhome and would be very interested in getting some first hand info. If you have time to give me some info contact me at ddunton at fidnetdot com.

A woman was flying from Seattle to San Francisco when unexpectedly the plane diverted to Sacramento. The flight attendant explained that there would be a delay and if passengers wanted to get off the aircraft the plane would re-board in 50 minutes.Everybody got off except an elderly blind lady with her seeing eye-dog lying quietly underneath the seat in front of her.The attendant asked if she would you like to get off and stretch her legs. She declined but said that she

Just in case you need a laugh:Remember it takes a college degree to fly a plane, but only a highschool diploma to fix one. Reassurance for those of us who fly routinelyin our jobs. After every flight, UPS pilots fill out a form, called a "gripe sheet," which tells mechanics about problems with the aircraft. The mechanicscorrect the problems, document their repairs on the form, and thenpilots review the gripe sheets before the next flight. Never let it besaid that ground crews lack a sense of humor. Here are some actualmaintenance complaints submitted by UPS pilots (marked with a P) and thesolutions recorded (marked with an S) by maintenance engineers.By the way, UPS is the…
