  2. Thought you'd be interested in this quote from a pilot report made August 1, '07 of the new Dassault Falcon 7X from Aviation International News:"The sidestick is a revolutionary style of flying an airplane unless, of course, the pilot has considerable time with Microsoft Flight Simulator. This flight made it clear that Flight Simulator time would not be wasted."I'm showing this to my wife, who is (of course) convinced that every minute and dollar I spend on FS is wasted! :(The article is here: http://www.ainonline.com/news/single-news-...535/?no_cache=1

I've been on hiatus form fs9 for most of the summer. I think I was just burnt out and with the weather in the low 30's, that's in the high 70's F. I felt the need to get outside. Then I came across Falcon 4 Allied Force. I had the original way back when, but this is a new beast. A scan of the manual gave me a hint at what I was in for. This is not a takeoff and shoot the bandits sim. 716 page manual, yes you heard me right 716 pages!!! Thankfully there are dozens of traing missions. I will be a few months before they'll allow me to go on a real mission. I do love learning something this complexed. In some ways it remimds me of buying my first realistic 737 from Dreamfleet…

Recently I flew in an a340-600. It flew at FL400 at 565kts. To recreate the same speed I took a flight in FSX with default 744, but the simulator gave me overspeed warning when I crossed 370kts even when I was above 10000feet. Then when I started climbing through around FL250 towards FL400 the speed started to drop inspite of 100% throttle and I ended up being at 250kts at FL400. The speed didnt increase even when I leveled at the cruise altitude. The same was the speed of the cruising ai planes aswell. But this is not what should happen. Is something wrong with the simulator?

How could Lufthansa Flight 413, a B737-700 safely be able to fly to Munchen (EDDM) from Newark (KEWR) which according to FSBuild and FS has a range of 3525.4nm, when according to Boeing a 737-700 only has a range of 3365nm. All I can say is I wouldn't want to fly on that flight!!http://flightaware.com/live/flight/DLH413http://boeing.com/commercial/737family/pf/pf_700tech.html

Okay, I'm looking for recommendations for an add-on aircraft in the large single/twin area, to get for FS (either 9 or X).Would prefer a pressurised turbo for the alt and speed advantages and long range would be nice too. Something along the lines of the stuff by FSD International or Flight1, Cheyenne, PC-12 or 441 conquest perhaps.Anyone got any particular recommendations, or even stuff I should avoid?Any suggestions welcome.

  15. Just did a 12-day roundtrip KIAD-EGLL with my family of 5 in Virgin's Premium Economy. It was superb both ways in the A340-300. I am a very jaded air traveller (ask Tom!), but can't ever afford to pay Biz Class, so this was a very nice discovery for me, a kind of "junior" biz class at a price I can more or less afford. For a 50% premium over regular coach we got huge seats 20" wide with an 8" recline, 38" pitch, a nice footrest, wide armrests so that you don't bump your neighbor, great food and good cabin service. To top it all, the air was beautifully cool, plentiful, and refreshing all the way there and back; can't say the same for my longtime airline, UAL, which ro…

  16. I was just at Airventure 2007 at the EAA, and I'd just like to point out that I barely saw any official FS companies/groups there. Yes, there were a few computers where people with little FS experience could try to tolerate FSX.. but that is sponsored by Microsoft and CH Products.I saw one major add-on company. Can anyone guess who?....Surprisingly, Flight1 Software had a booth setup. It looked like they had a few PC's running FS9 with some plane with G1000 equipment, and were promoting the "Using Flight Simulator as a Training Aid" book. I passed by when they were closing 15 minutes before everyone else, and was told to come back tomorrow. :-boomI was expecting for Avsim t…

What was your scariest real world flying mistake? Ill start off with mine. On one of my flying lessons we were simulating instrument failures, so I practiced running through the appropriate procedures and when looking for the alt static knob I found myself getting too close to pulling the fuel shutoff valve than I would ever want to be:o, luckily I caught my scary mistake before I actually tugged out the knob and made it home in one piece... lol.:-hang

I also need EC-1 (Michigan) and the Alaska terminal booklet. Some store don't seem to have Alaska charts for some reason. Thanks :-)

Sad news to report the untimely death of a great local seaplane pilot and his passenger. He was a fixture on the Willamette River in his 1941 Taylorcraft float plane. His pilot's credentials were quite impressive so I'm posting the article from the Oregonian Newspaper to give his full history. I'm trying to find runway configuration/navaid/frequencies data for airports in the Eastern and Central U.S. from 1960 to 1965, a period of dramatic airport change and development in the early years of jet transports. Is my best bet "Flight Guide?" I believe it began publication in 1960. The problem is finding one from that period that doesn't contain revisions in the binder that are from much later.Old sectional charts would be of some use, too. But, they provide next to no detail on the airports themselves.Any recommendations/suggestions would be appreciated.Dennis

Everyone's got a favorite, right? What's yours? As for me I love the old Connie and the 727. We had an old TCA (Trans Canada Airlines) parked in front of a Hotel, near Pearson airport. It was used as a cocktail bar. Even the cockpit was open for viewing. Unfortunatley, it was eventualy closed and was at the center of a contraversey for awhile. Read about it here. www.canadiansuperconnie.org/index.htmAs for the 727, I just love those swept back wings and the flaps are a work of art. The high "T" tail and engine cluster make the 727 one of a kind. The new modified 727's with the tall winglets make it look even better.Dave FisherCYYZP4 Prescott 3.2e 478p 800mhz 1mg CPUP4P800S…

I am researching for an article concerning the realism of flight simulations. If you have a PPL and use Flight simulators, I would be very happy if you could tell me your experience with them. How real is the simulation? What are its major shortcomings? Where is it successful?Of course, it would be even more interesting, if you are flying the same aircraft in reality and the sim.I would also be happy if anyone (not just people with a PPL) could take part in a small survey I created: http://www.meinstudi.de/flightsimsurvey/survey.html. It is of course completely anonymous. If you rather want to tell me something in private or more lenghty, you can reach me here: paperflyer@w…
