Well if any of you have been following my posts for the last... well... couple of years... tomorrow I was supposed to take my checkride at 9am. Unfortunately, weather in CT has not been cooperating. I'm going to have a word with mother nature. So I have rescheduled for next Monday at 2pm. At least I will have another week to practice and study up.I can definately say this- for those sim buffs that think they know it all (I was one!) you have NO IDEA how much knowledge and practice is required to pass one of these. I have memorized v-speeds, emergency procedures, maneuver procedures, airspace visibility and cloud clearance requirements, sectional symbols, FARs, METAR s…

Happened in 2001, but notable anyway since it's still the record.http://www.flyrc.org.uk/record/control_line.htmWatch the video...total hoot!bt"On Saturday 13 October 2001 at Fairmile Common near Cobham in Surrey, UK, Paul Eisner made an attempt on his existing World Record for Control Line Speed (1.0 to 2.5cc) which he had held at just over 194 mph since 1987. In unseasonably warm conditions (24C) the best run of the afternoon registered a provisional speed of 208.28 mph. This beats his existing record by the considerable margin of around 14 mph. The model is powered by an Irvine 15 "special" and uses a single-blade carbon fibre prop - as is usual with models of this typ…

I was watching a show about Nascar and in one scene I saw Mark Martin pushing his Citation II (I think)out of his hanger, climb into the left seat and takeoff. I had no idea he was a pilot. It looks like he lives in one of those airport subdivisions, like Travolta. Does anybody know this for a fact and I wonder how many drivers fly themselves to work?Dave F.

How do you feel about deaf pilots flying around out there? Basically, I'm talking about no-radio pilots that do not communicate on the radio at all, and fly by the see-and-be-seen style. I'm asking because I am one myself, and I recently had an incident with another deaf friend of mine, where we were faced with some pilots that felt very strongly that deaf pilots were so dangerous that we should never be allowed to fly, which strongly insulted me and my friend. Here's a recount of what happened: We were on a long cross country, from AJO to MHR then back to AJO, roughly 700 miles round trip. We were on our final leg, coming back to AJO. My friend did a 2500' AGL overfly, t…

Well, I'm not going to chronical this under my "Real life flight training" thread since it's not about that. I have been going up practicing, and doing ground work- so nothing new to report there but check this out...I went up tonight and flew over the "practice area"- This is about 15 miles east of New Haven over Hammonasset beach. It's a good place to practice since the closed-but-still-usable-in-an-emergency Madison airport is right underneath, and there are lots of ground reference points and a nice stretch of I-95 for S-Turns (which I haven't done- I heard they don't generally do those on a checkride since there are not a lot of good place to do them). So I do some…

Well the past couple of weeks since my final cross-country have been fairly uneventful. I have been flying- mostly practicing maneuvers and starting to panic...I spoke with the examiner, and he seemed like a nice guy. Both instructors I have been flying with have said "You'll do fine". I don't feel like it right now- Flying the plane is easy, but I am worried I will be so nervous I'll forget something that he will deem critical and fail me. Tonight, I need to sit down and total up my time to make sure I meet the requirements. I bought a program that is supposed to help you prep for the oral, and so far it's humbled me. Question: "What kind of Prop in on the Warrio…

Frontier Airlines. Similar, yet separate.Could be nothing, could be a probe of our security stance. From the Aviation Nation Blog: http://www.theaviationnation.com/2007/08/2...ts-in-36-hours/On Thursday: "Passengers reportedly had to hold down Chang, whose hands and feet were taped together to control him. Frontier Flight 561 landed in Indianapolis about 8 p.m. Thursday after the fight, the report said. Chang reportedly was upset that there was another passenger in the seat next to him and punched that passenger in the face, requiring treatment when the plane landed."And Saturday: "I heard the flight attendant say, 'Help me!'" Vigil said. A struggle broke out, and Vigi…

I just saw the world's largest plane land here in Charleston this afternoon with a good view from my office window. It is the Antonov AN-124-100. This is the Russian version of the US Galaxy-C5A that was made bigger.Geez, this thing was huge! I've never seen so many wheels at once. Here is the public story behind why it's here:http://public.charleston.amc.af.mil/photos...?galleryID=1539http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/177118.jpg

Anyone aware of any military type simulators along the lines of those used in War Colleges? NOT shoot 'em up games!! But exercises in command/control/tactics/logistics- probably at the Air Wing level or higher. ( Or division/brigade or naval task group levels.) Possibly along the lines of a "run your own airline sim" but a bit more sophisticated & with a military context.Wouldn't it be nice to find a sim used to train new general officers! But that would be too much to hope for.I appreciate this is not the usual AVSIM topic but it's one that might have some broader interest than only for this 75 year old virtual pilot!Alex Reid CYYJ

I'm just a FS pilot, and I just happened to be looking at a magazine called Pilot Getaways and noticed a nice little airport resort with a 3000 ft grass strip runway. I thought I'd fly it in FS but to be as realistic as possible, I wanted to select an appropriate aircraft. I thought about using my Flight1 Meridian or PC-12, then I decided to check the info on the airport to see what types fly into it in case it would only accept a 172. I found just about everything else about the airport but could not find any reference other than time of operation, lighting, etc. How does a pilot find out if he has a suitable aircraft for a particular airport? Thanks. Tom
