This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

  2. Is there to be no escape from advertising? In Portland Oregon where I live, our streetcars now have audio adverts timed to the location of the journey. "Want a GOOD hot dog? Joe's has the best. On your left at the next stop."I find todays agressive 24 X 7 marketing of EVERYTHING intrusive and a turn-off.Caveat venditor (Latin for "let the seller beware")Cheers,bthttp://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSL2490379720070925LONDON (Reuters) - Advertisers aiming to reach high-flyers with no alternative distraction will soon have a new method: adverts the size of three football pitches seen by plane passengers coming in to land.

  3. I'm so upset. One of my favorite airports to fly into is gone, 69NH (formerly 8B8) Lakes Region Airport in Wolfeboro, NH has been dug up according to a post I just read http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/archiv...php/t-2409.htmlApparently it is actually a pretty good grass strip at the moment as the homes that were going to be put there haven't been put up yet and the whole area has been hydroseeded, and they actually extended where the runway used to be. I haven't been there since 2001. Man how time flies.Sad.It won't be long before FS is the only place where you'll be able to fly to good airports anymore.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingsco…

I was not sure where to put this post, I couldn't find a suitable place to write, even the Navdata forum displays a notice saying it does not cover the Navigraph software package. This post is basically a few views I have about it.I for one find the package useful. It saves me a lot of time and effort hunting round for airport chart data, and I find the enroute chart information useful too in planning. I also find the provision of the FMC data witin Navigraph an excellent service. And on the whole, if you're careful, you realise it's not all that expensive for what it offers... BUT lately there have been some changes, and also no changes to some aspects of the package…

I've not posted on this topic for years. Not because I lost interest, but because it has taken years for new evidence to emerge from numerous FOIA requests, that until recently were being stonewalled by govt agencies.Capt Ray Lahr, a former Navy Pilot, a retired United Airlines Pilot and former Safety Representative for the Airline Pilots Association has been one of the key champions behind an ongoing FOIA suit asking for the evidence that drove the NTSB to the conclusion that TWA 800 was brought down by an explosion that initiated inside the center wing tank, not a bomb or a missile. Key to that conclusion was the "zoom climb" scenario that the CIA said was the reason …

While looking around military bases in Google Earth, I spied something at NAS Pensacola that I can't for the life of me figure out what I'm seeing. Just west of the northern end of runway 1-19, there's what looks like a baby runway. Its only about 775 feet long, so its probably not a runway (aside from the part where NPA has three runways and not four). My first instinct was to think it was some sort of mock carrier deck but that seems very unlikely for a wide variety of reasons. It doesn't seem to have arresters on it, first off. Didn't notice anything like this thing at any other NAS I looked at either. So is there anyone out there that knows what this strip of conc…

Does anyone know of retailers in the following areas that would sell Saitek Three Lever Throttles?- Washington DC- Maryland- IndianapolisI have tried searching on the internet but havent had any luck in finding anywhere. One alternative would be to order them on the internet and get them delivered to my hotel. But that would be using a UK based credit card - would that work? Thanks for any help or suggestions!Gary

Having watched several "National Geographic" TV documentaries entitled "Crash Investigation" I'm struck by the number of times investigators are uncertain about what the pilots are referring to in their voice recordings. The following example illustrates my point. The Captain pointed to a specific instrument that he thought was behaving strangely and drew it to his co-pilot's attention WITHOUT SPECIFICALLY MENTIONING WHICH INSTRUMENT HE WAS REFERRING TO.After the crash no Black box could be retrieved. Accordingly there could be no certainty as to what the instrument may have been.Would it not be safer for training to include the need for pilot discussion being phrased in …

  15. I have to start this post by saying I'm not religious. Not anti-religious, but I just wasn't brought up that way. My parents tried to get me to go to Sunday school, but as soon as they dropped us off, we made for the bushes, and then the playground.I think I do believe in Karma however. Last Tuesday, when I was supposed to take my checkride, the weather didn't cooperate. So I went to work as usual. As I left at about 4 pm, I was driving down the road, and saw a big plume of smoke. As I got closer, I saw an SUV with the front smashed in, and smoke pouring out of it. There were 5 or 6 cars on the side of the road. As I approached, I didn't see any police or ambulanc…

Question out there to real pilots (or those who play one on TV! ;-)):Are there hard and fast rules about the BLUE apron lighting one sees about tarmacs? To be more specific, are blue lights used as a barrier - one should never cross a line of blue lights or can they be used to show a path as well?I was thinking of using some on the edges of some very wide taxiways but along that taxiway one can cross that "blue" line onto a gate. Would that be a no-no?thanks,ClutchProject 9Dragons
