Hi,Now that boeing has the -900ER is the -900 still in production? It looks liek the -900 page isnt on the website.

From fsx virtual cockpits I came to realize that airbuses have a side stick to control the pitch, roll, etc instead of a typical front stick of boeings'. Any idea why airbus prefers it, and still use rudder pedals instead of using stick swivel to yaw?Dont the pilots have difficulty adjusting when transitioning from 1st officer to captain?

I was wondering if someone here could explain to me the proper way to operate an aircraft with a fixed pitch propeller. Do I use a low pith/highspeed at takeoff and a high pitch lower speed during cruise? What about during descent? During my use of certain aircraft in flight simulator I have maintained a low pitch propeller in hopes of ovoiding high manifold pressure and low propeller rpm. Now I strive for little more realism and wish for information on how to correctly operate such aircraft.Onboard the FSD Piper Seneca, my oil temperature stayed high through out the flight. Would leaving the propeller speed high cause this?

Does a plane need more runway length to takeoff or land? I'm talking about Boeing and Airbus jets by the way.I was just wondering because this question has always bothered me.

I looked at the plane status in the I-map feature while cruising in the vir a346, it read:ALT: FL400Outside air TEMP:-40degthe ACs were still running, delivering cold air, there was a little freeze on the outer glass of the window; yet it was pretty comfortable inside. How is that possible at such low ambient air temp without any heaters running?

Speaking of Mythbusters, did anyone see Wednesday's show on 11/14/07? They were able to find a cargo company that allowed them to use one of their 747's to test out the thrust wash of the engines at full takeoff thrust.WOW is all I can think of to say of the result! The guys pulled several vehicles across the rear path of a stationary 747 to see if the jetwash would blow them over. I was expecting some movement sideways of each vehicle, but not the steel ripping, flying, rolling and destruction of such heavy vehicles. The hoods were ripped off and both the car and the school bus rolled and went airborne! Geeeez!I guess that's a VERY good reason that vehicles are not allow…

I am curious to know, especially from the real pilots out there:We all love Microsoft Flight Simulator, and with the advent of FSX and Acceleration and FS11 on the horizon, we can all agree they are very realistic simulators. I would just like to know how many pilots step into an airplane and say, "Hey! This is just like Flight Simulator!!!" My guess is not many...is that true?

Good news for the older pilots, longer waits for the younger pilots coming up.http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/chi...0,1950072.story

Last week I did a long weekend roundtrip IAD-LHR in a UA 777. I had quite forgotten how immense the power was on takeoff. The moderately crowded aircraft accelerated at a furious pace and rocketed into the air after a 30 second roll at an initial climb rate of over 3000 fpm. In comparison with my last flight on a VIRGIN Atlantic A340-300, this was at least twice the rate of climb out. The 777 just kept up a furious pace easing off to a race car rate all the way up to FL370, our initial cruise level. The return takeoff was just as fast and furious with a tremendous rate of climb out of LHR although I have to say that over the mid-Atlantic we got bashed around by heavy t…

after taking short term steps to decongest the airport by having simultaneous takeoffs since april '06, and getting countless near misses from simultaneous rwy27 and rwy28 takeoffs and only rwy28 for landings for the past 18 months, now it has been decided to use 1028 for takeoff and 0927 for landing from 25th of this month.IATA is complaining about the 0927 as unsuitable for landings for heavy jets. I dont think 2.8km strip should be a problem for economical braking.what do you experts and real aviation guys think about the pros and cons of this decision?how successful is this going to be?checkout my updated fsx afcad for vidp aswell.regards

First of all, at Boston, they send large jets such as 747s for takeoff on runway 9/27 or 4L/22R. 9/27 is only 7,000 ft and 4L/22R is only 7,861 ft. Now, if you take a look at the runways on Google earth, they COULD expand them. There's a lot of Blast Pad behind 9 and 4L. Can't Logan turn this into displaced threshold to increase the total runway length? so, if they did this, 4L/22R could be 9,861 feet long (2000 ft extension) and 9/27 could be 8000-8500 feet long.Just wondering because Logan seems to have shorter runways than other airports.

Hello everyone,I was wondering where in the US one can hop into a simulator for an hour or two? I always wanted to see how I would do piloting a commercial jet after flying them in FS, but I had no success googling the topic. Any suggestions?ThanksJohn

Well, it wasn't the right episode about the conveyer belt but it was good at least. One question that came up was that no non-pilot (passenger) had ever had to take control of an airliner and land it in an emergency. I'm sure that many of our PMDG, Level-D and Airbus pilots could do it quite well. However there was ALMOST one case that a non-pilot might have had to fly an airliner. It was in the case of the hijacking of United 93. If the passangers HAD managed to retake the aircraft from the terrorists, then SOMEONE would have had to fly the plane since both pilots were reported killed or incapacitated.I'm still amazed that there has never been at least ONE case (at least t…

Another bird fell from our small aviation community around this time last year, and this one was an eagle. Mickey Bednar, who went by the nickname "AirNikon" passed away in November of 2006, and it's been a year since his passing. If you've ever visited Airliners.net to peruse the latest photographs, chances are you've seen many of Mickey's photos. He ended his long-time support of our hobby with a monstrous 9,999 photos uploaded (and many more which were not), taking care to make sure his photographs captured registrations numbers and side angles for us flight simmers seeking good liveries for repainting.I'd like to take just a brief moment and say thanks again to M…

I had my old 19" TV for such a long time, but when I saw the ads for the new model, WOW was I amazed! I mean the brochure just blew me away, the pictures there were just incredible! I truly believed this experience was going to change my viewing forever! I drove straight to the shop the day it was available and was first in line to buy it..Installation took quite a while and this thing was so heavy. I could have sworn it was built like those old CRT's in the 90's! They actually made me ring some guy in Bangladesh to activate it. Once in place I fired her up, but at first all I got was a black screen. To my surprise the sticker said you must configure everything in the set…
