Hello all. My name is Brett, and I have not flown in almost 3 years. My wife and myself started a family 3 years ago and I had no time to fly. Everybody is getting old enough to where I can have some time to do some flights. My computer shot craps and all we have is a lap top. To get to my point and being brief, I am in the market for a new desktop. My question to you all is this. How does FSX, activesky and Windows Vista all run together? On my old system my main aircraft I flew was the PMDG 737. How does PMDG and vista get along? I still have all my software, FS 2004, PMDG 737, and quite a few other addons.I am a little hesitant to start to build up my hanger a…

Hello all,A few days ago while listening to Zurich tower on liveatc, I noticed that Lufthansa flights had different callsigns compared to their flight numbers. As far I know all major airlines use their names and flight numbers as callsigns (Turkish Airlines flight TK 1909 would be "Turkish 1909", same in US, usually name and flight number). Now, one Lufthansa flight that day was using the callsign "Lufthansa 6 Kilo Alpha". I assumed that those 2 letters were the last 2 of the aircraft's registration but of course I'm not sure of this.Does anyone know the reason? or is there a specific logic in assigning callsigns? Thanks in advanceOnurLTBA

We have new neighbours in our condo- he is an AirBus A320 captain with a major airline. Yesterday I bumped into him and while chatting, invited him, if he had 20 minutes sometime, to drop by and try a check ride on my triple monitor home simulator. To my pleasant surprise, he showed up that same evening. Sat him in my 'captain's chair',showed him yoke/buttons, pedals, keyboard and then brought up FS9 on the "big screen". I think he was somewhat surprised when it opened with set up shown in the screenshot below.Nearly two hours later after he had flown every addon, I had to hint that it was getting late!! He was quite enthralled- I'm sure I'll see more of him.Interestingly, …

I don't know if this is appropriate for hangar chat, but I'm planning on going to San Francisco this summer from Boston. Which airline do you guys recommend I use? I'm leaning towards United because of their ATC feature but I'm not sure if they have IFE. So, what do I use?

Hi all,(Apologies to Avsim if this is in the wrong place, wasn't sure where to put it!)Anyway, I have been looking at the new Ariane Designs website and am tempted by the new version of their 737's, but am aware of the problems of the past with them. Does any one know if they are ok to buy from now, or is it still a gamble? I've done some searching around various forums, but the most current message seems to be from last year.cheers,A

ryanair, the large budget airline, based in the Rebuplic of Irelan is closing its website for three days next week. It has to do this after missing a deadline imposed by the UK Office of Fair Trading to remove misleading prices, although Ryanair claims it's just an update to cope with increased demand. The site will be down for 72 hours.Ryanair has been quoting misleadingly low prices on its website. Its prices didn't include extras that couldn't be avoided.

Has anyone been watching "JetStream" on the Discovery channel? It kinda brings things into perspective when your trying to figure out the F18 in FSX acceleration. I've strapped in then Cpt Argue, many a time when I was with 441 TF(AD)S. He's the CFI on the show.

If nobody else wants to chat with you, I will. Forty years ago I had 110 real world hours. A modest number, but enough to make me realize that pilots are a breed of people different from most. You wondered what the motorists were thinking. I have a similar issue. When a jet transport is climbing westbound out of DIA, I wonder what the crew is thinking, and I watch the aircraft till it is out of sight. I can't NOT watch it, and the miracle of flight is always fresh and fascinating, even though I understand aerodynamics and physics and chemistry.Does the captain ever look down and to his left and see the tennis court and swimming pool of our condo development? Does the…

What an interesting flight. Sounds like you need to be a diplomat as well as a pilot.I think FSX is just hitting its stride. Some fantastic add on planes, scenery and utilities have finally arrived. Too bad I am stuck in a hotel room with only my laptop.Welcome back. I would look forward to more flight descriptions.

Almost all modern jets (especially long range) have winglets attached to their wingtips. It came to me as a surprise that the best longrange plane b777, be it the -200 or -300 dont use winglets.anyone knows why? shouldnt the performance always increase if vortex formation at the wingtips is discouraged?

This is just a question I've been wondering about lately. How much does color deficiency affect someone pursuing a career in commercial aviation? Does it depend on position (1st Officer, Capt, etc) or aircraft (B1900 vs. 747) at all?
