Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

Hi Guys,A bit off topic I know, but I'm pulling my hair out over this one, and now have real time constraints.... PLEASE, can anyone help me... I'm getting pretty desperate!I'm trying to use the inbuilt Backup utility in Vista Business (same as Ultimate) to backup data files across several PCs on a network.Although ALL PC are setup to share their files, and do so, perfectly well, and quite happily, outside of the 'Backup' regime, I just can't make the backup work. I'm not trying to do a complete 'My Computer' - just files & folders. I get as far as selecting the network location ok, but when I select it, I'm then asked for that PCs 'user name & password'. Well, fo…

  2. Longreach was quite badly damaged in a crash-overrun at Bangkok in 1999 during a t-storm, but I read that she was repaired at a cost of $100 million which was huge. Is Longreach still flying? Is that Queen still safe to fly after such damage?Makes me wonder if BA will try to repair their 777 from the Heathrow crash a couple of months ago. I saw that poor baby recently with wingroots ripped and wondered when do airline folks decide something is a write-off and when it can still be repaired?JS

According to discovery.com, this episode will air in the US on April 16th at 9pm (probably EDT).However, it aired yesterday in Canada.... Want me to post the spoilers, or would you rather wait to see it when it airs?

I'm cleaning up to move. One of my friends just gave me an old iOmega Zip100 so I could find out what is on my old ZIP disks. I was surprised.I found an old FS4.1 zip file. I'm going to try it in a while. There were alot of FS98 repaints. I flew for Noble Air, Transit International (TIA) and New England Air and did repaints for them all.I found some AS2 files, I think I still have the software somewhere. Does anyone still use that?I found some Flight assignment ATP diskettes, along with Falcon3.I also found an Eric Ernst 757 for FS2000. I remember that was the best at the time. It's amazing to me how far the sim industry has come.Regards,Jim

Well as the title says it all... this thread shall be about those of us with or without our licenses, that enjoy that cursed herb :-lol. I've never seen this thread on Avsim and well since at my local airport a few guys do meet up in the back of one old hangar, and enjoy some good times, I thought it right to bring it up here in hangar chat. So tell me what you think on America's failed drug war and what we can do to change it, given all the beneficial evidence from leading science organizations that overall, cannabis is much more safer than other forms of medicine available... as well as being safer as the common, legal forms, of mind altering drugs such as alcohol and…

Hi AllI'm taking the day off tomorrow to see the A380 landing at Heathrow, I've been told that'll land on the normal runway with the rest of the traffic, ie not land on the take off one. It'll touch down at 3:05PM. I seem to remember that the runway assignments swap over at 3:00 PM, so which is the most likely runway that'll be used. The wind will be from the North at the time.ThanksRen

  10. I was wondering if anyone can direct me to this piece of work. I know all about the controversy surrounding the past tutorial that he put out and why it was removed. I actually have a copy of the last work and I found it very helpful. I do not want to rehash that, but moving forward, from his own website he mentions he is currently writing a book in pdf format. I was wondering if this project exists now or did it get dropped?Chris W

  11. HelloI was on a 777-200 recently, and I noticed something unusual. When the engines spooled-up for takeoff, I saw approximatley ten liters of fuel coming out of the jettison pipe, located on the left wing. Is this some kind of overflow mechanism?:)

ok, so they say about 30 degrees or less to intercept the localizer.not sure about smaller aircraft but with a heavy jet like the A30030 degrees and even 20 almost seem a bit much to do manually. maybe it's meand probably is but what's a good angle to use and a good distance too. not using ATC either pretty much just raw data with no GPS map.i also want to do this smoothly with no erratic ham fisted fighter jock movements. i'm playing around with airspeeds and other thingsand thought about posting here while i'm doing these test flights. no autopilot. william

I hope this doesn't coincide with the release of FS11.http://www.dailytech.com/All+Signs+Point+t...rticle11074.htmIt was / is a tough ride for FSX with the Vista thing going on.I would hate to see FS11 get bogged down amidst another OS change.2010 maybe too soon for FS11 anyway?

Hi Brian, with regard to your post in the thread "Ethical Question",http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...4&mesg_id=34938I was wondering if you're going to enforce that rule also for people using "scarebus" instead of "airbus"? It can be considered equally offensive as using "M$" in place of "MS".For the record, I do not agree with the censorship of neither of the words, but since it's you the mods who decide, I'm just asking for clarification.Marco

I'm planning a family trip from So. California to the east coast, Washington D.C. to be specific. We've never flown in a B777 and would like the experience. Are there any airlines flying in the U.S. from coast to coast with a B777?

I fellow simmer and I were visiting a few days ago and he asked if we are still bound (legally and/or morally) by the EULA when a "company" has ceased to exist. Specifically he was wondering if he could now share his registered copy of FS Navigator since that "company" has called it quits. He felt (and I agree) that it seems a shame new simmers will not have a chance to try this fine program if they cannot obtain a copy of it now.I did not know how to answer him so I thought I would pose the question here in hopes of getting some thoughtful replies from those who have some legal expertise.Your thoughts?
