Hangar Chat
This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc. Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view. There's a locked thread in the FS 9 forum relating to doing illegal stuff in the sim world. Someone quotes a real pilot who said "I'd get arrested if I did this stuff in real life". Well, this pilot didn't get arrested but did get fired for doing a wheels up low field pass at Boeing field in a BRAND NEW 777 for Cathay Pacific.Read the report here: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/02/25/777_flypast/Someone even got a picture - probably the boys in the tower. Happy Landings!Keith

I have a question regarding Runway distance remaining signs.Do these signs start and end measured from runway thresholds, or is distance remaining measured along the entire runway?

.. this is my reaction to the deleted FTX (full terrain experience) thread.I don't think that the right action has been taken in this case.As it is impossible to change what has been done, there is one thing I'd suggest to avoid such things in the future:Open a dedicated payware product discussion forum (not a support forum)!Every flight simulator that we talk about here is a payware product itself. MSFS by now is built to be a platform for further add-ons.We all agree that FS9 only really shines with the many add-ons, be it payware or freeware.FSX is on the way to full bloom with all those great products being just about to be released. With a dedicated forum, each paywar…

I've seen it written in some aircraft specs that, due to the high mounted wing, there is good initial stability. Can some please explain what might be meant by this... How might a high wing aircraft be more stable that a low wing? Thanks

I thought you all would like this one. This is the ultimate Drag Race ...... it is between a 1000 HP Bugatti Veyron and a Jet Fighter. The two will start side by side from a standstill. The car will go 1 mile, slow down enough to turn around on a full width runway, then come back the 1 mile. The fighter will take off as quickly as possible, go straight up 1 mile, turn around and come back down to about 100' off the deck to fly parallel to the car to attempt to cross the Finish Line first. Who will win?? http://www.snotr.com/video/568

Friday I finally got my CFII!Wasn't that bad of an add on since I already have my CFI. There really isn't much to do in the oral besides the basics of instruments and the common errors of first time instrument students. The flight was just as easy as well because the majority of my free time flying is done IFR.Then today I got to talk to an airline that I thought I would never be able to fly for. We'll see how that goes in the next few months!

I've noticed that both LAX and YYZ have rwy 24 with headings of roughly 240 deg. I was playing around with Google Earth and I aligned GE to point 240 degrees using YYZ's 24R. Then I moved to LAX keeping GE aligned to 240 deg. To my surprise 24R at LAX was about 80 deg off the 240 deg alignment of YYZ's rwy 24R. Is this because of magnetic variation?Dave F.(hope I made sense)
