Go here and check out: Your New Pilot: H.A.L.http://www.avweb.com/eletter/archives/avfl...ull.html#194034The new direction? I have a friend of a friend who has flown captain of 747's for years who is asking for a demotion to dc9's-he is tired of the company rule flying the whole trip on autopilot from practically liftoff to touchdown-wants to get back to the fun/interest of some hand flying. Is this the future. Will future msfs's just have us observing the flight and not having any input?Wonder what the public will think....http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg

Good evening, What do you guys do to remember a particular flight number for a particular flight for communications purposes? Considering that you guys can average a few sectors each day, I'm sure that there are moments when mix-ups can occur. Thanks in advance for your responses.J.C. Hi, I'll get right to the point- My instructor asked me to plan a flight from KHVN to KPOU for Saturday, and after I got home I looked at the navigation log and realized there's more to it than I recall.Would any of you guys/gals who are real life pilots want to give me a hand with this? My brother is not going to have any time this week, and if I don't get it done we won't have time to do the trip.I am in CT, and could certainly call you- 8 or later is best for me. I have a current NY sectional/AFD/plotter/E6B etc... but you would probably have to have a NY sectional also.I understand this may be a long shot, but just threw it out there in case anybody might want to …

I always wondered how do they deliver smaller aircraft (like a 172 or a King Air) to customer across the Atlantic of Pacific? Do they load it in another aircraft/ship or does someone actually fly it across?

I went flying last night to do some night work and also this morning.Last night was a serious workout. My instructor told me to book something for 5-5:30 this week to work on some night landings. I had booked 2 days and waited to see which was best. Tuesday night looked a little windy, so I cancelled it thinking Wednesday would be better. Was I wrong! It was bitterly cold and windy on the flight line. I finished the pre-flight and had to go back into the FBO for a bit just to warm up. By the time we both got strapped in the airplane it was already pitch black. I love airports at night. I don't love big gusty winds however. We got ATIS and the wind was gusting up…

Hi there,Just wondering, does anyone know of a busy set of forums for general ultralight enthusiasts and owners? I would like to research the topic and I love reading forums. I can't afford to get into full size aircraft flying at any point in the near future or far future for that matter. Unfortunately my job(as much as I like it) doesn't pay that much but someday I figure I might be able to at least get into Ultralight flying with the lower cost.I'd just like to find busy forums specifically for real life ultralights if anyone knows any.

Hello all, I recently found this forum and am hoping someone can help me. I have a few aviation memorabilia items I am looking to find new homes for since I do not have the room for and that someone other than me can enjoy them. I also need the money to be quite honest. A little about me, My great uncle was Walter Burnham who was half of the inventing team of the Travel Air Mystery Ship of the late 20's and early 30's air racing fame. My grandfather Clifford Burnham was a flying circus pilot in the Omaha area and was believed to be the first paid pilot to fly a customer in his airplane west of the Mississippi. I have in my possession a binder documenting that flight along…

I didn't see this posted already so I thought I'd go ahead and post it.http://pogue.blogs.nytimes.com/2006/12/11/...mill-conundrum/"Imagine a plane is sitting on a massive conveyor belt, as wide and as long as a runway. The conveyor belt is designed to exactly match the speed of the wheels, moving in the opposite direction. Can the plane take off?"I was surprised there is so much debate on this. Unless I'm missing something, the plane would easily take off. Airplanes produce thrust not torque so the wheels are completely irrelevant in this problem. It wouldn't be any different than a plane accelerating on ice or in mid-air. I think people are also becoming confused becaus…

On my recent trip to London, I landed on UA 924 (a 777) in thick fog. We did not see the ground till we flared over the concrete and even then I could see very little. Looking at the fuselages of aircraft as we taxied and then at Terminal 3, I estimate vis at the field at arrival time was around 400 horizontal feet and maybe about 100 feet vertically. The approach was perfect all the way down, smooth, steady, and stable, and was an impressive affair. I can't imagine how things must have looked from the drivers' PoV.Would such a landing typically be an Autoland ?At what visibility level does a landing qualify as "blind" and what is the normal jetliner landing procedur…

A group of United Airline employees insist that they observed a saucer shaped object hovering just below the cloud deck on November 7th, 2006.http://www.chicagotribune.com/classified/a...onworldiraq-hed"It sounds like a tired joke--but a group of airline employees insist they are in earnest, and they are upset that neither their bosses nor the government will take them seriously.A flying saucerlike object hovered low over O'Hare International Airport for several minutes before bolting through thick clouds with such intense energy that it left an eerie hole in overcast skies, said some United Airlines employees who observed the phenomenon."Not everyone is as serious about …
