In a nice departure from the standard hubbub and gnashing of teeth regarding a new FS release, I have found a beautiful little project that relates to our hobby. In experimenting with data for the Celestial Mechanics project, the creators have used FAA data to build brilliant images and movies demonstrating flight patterns in the United States.Other than that, I don't know how to describe it, just take a look:http://users.design.ucla.edu/~akoblin/work/faa/index.html

The UK newspapers are reporting the findings of this accident which killed 121 people last year. These are that:- the flight crew failed to note that the cabin pressurisation mode selector was in the manual position with the result that they, and the passengers, lost conciousness due lack of oxygen as the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude.- in flight, the flight crew failed recognise the warnings and and reasons for the activation of the warnings. These included the cabin altitude warning horn and the dropping of oxygen masks. Apparently they confused the horn with a take-off configuration warning, that has the same sound, and were discussing that with the ground…

I have been unable to access certain websites or download my hotmail emails from Outlook Express. It may be coincidence but I cannot open such pages as hotmail.com, msn.com, windows.com, i cannot download msn messenger or log into windows messenger. Also a few other non-related websites will not open either. The bar on the bottom toolbar which usually shows the loading of a page goes green very slowly and in the end mostly shows a "page not displayed". I have tried to find an answer but keep hitting dead end. Any ideas?Stelios

http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7005029736Suprised no one has posted about this. My dad just called me about it today and thinks he has to go down to Brazil to investigate. His intial information that he has is that it struck an Embraer aircraft and that the 737 then broke apart. The GOL jet that crashed was brand new and of a new certification for very short field operations with delivery transaction happening on September 1st.

I've been searching around on the internet looking for a aviation store in the area around Washington DC, but so far I've only found online stores. My dad is travelling to USA next week, and I've aksed him to buy a new headset for me, so if anyone here knows about a store or two in that area, please let me know! :-)

I was recently able to purchase a 2006 bmw 328i and wow let me tell you what a great car. If you ever have a chance to get your hands on one go for it! Even the base model I got (cheapest one) is absolutely outstanding and full of features. The car did come with its price though, now I can't exactly afford to upgrade my pc for fsx for a while haha.Andrew

OK. First, let me introduce myself. I'm a high school senior in New York. My goal is to ultimately become an international airline pilot and I'm considering starting my flight training during or after college. I'm interested in the qualifications to fly internationally, for example between the US and Europe. Do you need the JAA AND FAA licenses? Or just FAA if you get all of your flight training here in the US? Oh, and if you do need the JAA licenses, then what country in Europe would you recommend training for said licenses? I've considered Poland since I used to live there and speak Polish fluently.

Heard a podcast recently ("Fly With Joe", check it out!) in which Joe d'Ore, a captain for a major airline, interviewed a 30-something old blind man who dreams of becoming a pilot and soloing. The aspiring pilot has a big heart and no shortage of "can do" attitude but only a very vague understanding of the challenges at this point. He is serious apparently however. Among other things, he suggests he will replace all the aircraft guages with aural versions. In this spirit of "Anything but another tedious FSX beta post" I wondered whethered folks think this can be actually done. I have my own view but am not sharing it. If we solve this we can turn our attentions to wh…

Hello, I've been trying to figure out for a while now what the significance of the number after the SID/STAR name is, if there is any? For example: ATLANTA5 departure or ROME2 arrival. What is the 5 or the 2 signify? I've been using real world charts for FS navigation since I started with the hobby six or so years ago and I was just curious and couldn't find anything by searching Google. I have a hunch of the significance and it's probably something very simple. I just wanted an "expert's" opinion. Any answers would be highly appreciated. Thanks.-adam
