  1. Hi All...I have both MSFS9 and MSFSX.. I have lots of Megascenery for MSFS9 and PMDG 737 600/700 & PMDG 747 for FS9. My birthday is coming up, and my wife and daughter are asking me for gift ideas. Since I am such a Flight Simmer, I am thinking about asking them for some Sim Stuff... So, I am looking for ideas about what to get. In a way, I'd hate to get more addons for FS9... but I might be wrong here. Any ideas? I am considering either the Wilco 777 or the PMDG 747 for FSX... I am a bit concerned about moving to the Wilco. Does anyone have any experience with it? Since I have the PMDG 747, will I be confusing my self with having two different sets of commands?…

Do you know where you can find a flight search engine like what you would see on any airlines website? One VA (flywestexpress.com) has one, but I don't know how you find them, and configure to your exact desire.

  5. This has been bugging me but fortunately I don't have $3 million to spend on a new personal aircraft.I am trying to compare side-by-side Cessna Mustang with Socata TBM 850 since in many respects they are very similar aircraft. Both are priced very close (Socata is even slightly more expensive) and have very similar cabin volume, your typical 'family' aircraft.Even though Mustang is 2-engine jet and TBM is a single engine turboprop both aren't far apart in speed - Mustang is in fact only about 20-25 kts faster. TBM has about 30% better range.Mustang should be more expensive to operate and it is but not as much as you would think - about 17% more expensive per hour. Both oper…

Qantas still holds the record as the only major carrier to never have a fatal. That said, their employees are concerned and want assurances that this is not becoming a trend. I would suspect we will see more of these type events as economic pressures force airlines to skip optional preventative maintenance and do only what is required by regulation. My 2 cents,bthttp://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=08...&show_article=1Qantas flight attendants want assurances from management that the Australian carrier's planes are safe after a third mid-air incident in two weeks, a union official said Sunday.

I've returned to FS after an 18 month (or so) hiatus. There was a site back then that allowed a pilot to "rent/buy" an aircraft and go on assignments. Would someone know if it is still up and running and what the site address might be?It is SO good to be back in the pilot seat after many months!Thank you,RJL

http://travel.msn.com/Guides/article.aspx?...75226&GT1=41000Having flown two transcon flights in the past week, and having two more scheduled before the end of the month, I know what airline I won't be choosing. Given the dry, 8000 foot cabin that dehydrates passengers quickly, I don't care what economics USAirways is trying to meet. Seems just plain sleazy to me, whatever executive committee dreamed this one up.Regards,John

Well we flew in to Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA (CYWG) on Friday the 1st. There was a Cathay Pacific Cargo 747 with winglets sitting on the tarmac. Never seen one here before. The pilots on the Westjet flight we flew in one thought that the aircraft had problems and may have had to land here. Neat. JimCYWG

  13. I just got back from a 2.5 week flying trip in which I expected to fly into Canada to Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, and P.E.I.I went to a Faa seminar about flying into Canada, and also went to the Aopa site, did what I thought was all the prelim work and homework and thought I was covered. Before going I:1)procured the enroute ifr sectional charts2) got a customs sticker for about $353) got a notarized letter stating I was able to fly my aircraft4) sent my license back to the Faa so they could stamp on the back -"English proficient" (even thought that is a requirement in the US for a license)5) Checked with my insurance agent about liability which was very ambigious-need 500,0…

Hello all :)I use the Amadeus Flight Information tool to fly real-world routes in FS9.I am about to fly from Chengdu (CTU) to Lhasa (LXA) in China. I pulled up the information on Amadeus and the planes used are 757s & A319s - no surprise there. But I see that Air China also has a daily A340-300 service from CTU->LXA. The flight time is only 1:50min with the airports being about 1,240km apart.Aren't planes like the A340 "optimsed" for very long-range flights? Why would they use a big 4-engined monster it on a hop like this!Amadeus:http://www.amadeus.net/home/new/index.htm

I noticed this very short hop at Flightaware:CKS 208 (Calitta Air)KJFK - KEWRThis flight lasted 18 minutes (including, apparently, one spin) to cover the 20 or so miles, and I was curious why other transport means weren't employed, as in my mind using a 747 isn't the most economical way to transport something such a short distance. I don't live in that area, but I do know there are rivers separating these locations. The only reason I can come up with is if there are size or weight restrictions on the bridges that the cargo involved would have violated.Does anyone have any other thoughts?

I write this hoping Phil Taylor will chime in with his thoughts as what I have to say is pure speculation. However, with MS announcing DirectX 11 at Gamefest 2008 and the already announced next version of the Windows OS to replace Vista on the horizon, one begins to wonder if we are headed for another release of FS10 were a new OS was coming out along with a new version of DirectX API.Now Microsoft has reassured existing DX10 and DX10.1 users that their very expensivevideo cards will still work with DX11. The new version of DirectX is totally compatible with these APIs, unlike the split between DX9 and DX10. As well, DX11 offers some new things such as one major feature of…

  23. I hope so. In a way I should feel flattered, for the first time since I started placing distribution limitations in my files, one of mine (my recently released trike) has ended up on FSPlanet in spite of my wishes.I think realistically anyone who has a nervous breakdown over a site ignoring distribution limitations for a file we make freely available needs to back away for a while and take a break from design. It happens. But FSPlanet is different in my book because the only practical way for someone to get one of the freely available files that land there is to pay. The site claims it allows "free" access but when I tried to download my own 10MB package to see if the l…

  25. After my somewhat critical review of Wilco's Tower Simulator in May, I promised a few people I'd do a follow-up once SP1 was released. This happened on 3 Jul, and this is what I now think:Firstly the good bits - the AI aircraft models are slightly better rendered and the airports are a bit smoother when looking out of the window. End of tangible improvements.FeelThere have seemingly completed a long list of improvements and fixes, but I'm leaning towards the opinion that much of their time producing SP1 was spent fixing things they thought needed fixing, as opposed to listening to feedback from customers about more pressing, fundamental, problems. That's not to say I thin…
