You read that correctly... United Airlines flight 977, a B777 direct from Dubai to Washington's Dulles.I flew this flight yesterday (Thursday, November 13th, 2008) from Dubai to Dulles and was amazed. I have flown long hauls many times in the past; mostly B747's from SFO or LAX to Sydney, Australia and countless times on ANA 747-400's from Dulles to Narita. But I had never flown on a 777 on a route greater than Frankfurt to Dulles. 15 Hours 14 Minutes scheduled flight time was forecasted and we actually made it in just under 15 arriving about 20 minutes early. One of the aspects of the departure that for some reason surprised me was the short taxi to take off. Our gate nu…

http://www.bizjournals.com/southflorida/st.../14/story1.htmlOld news, but I saw it just today on the FlightAware Squawks page.Eastern Airlines could be on the verge of a revival, and it once again could be Miami-based. What do you think?I've heard of Eastern Airlines and I know their basic service, but I wasn't around when it was at full force. To those who have flown on it and experienced it...how was it? Would you be happy to see it back?Regards,

With the new forum software, is it possible for users to personalize their colors and styles? I looked through My Controls and didn't see anything. (Did customize my avatar and signature though.)

So, it's Saturday night, my marathon session of 15+ hours yesterday for this forum is over, and I finally have a beer in my hands. :( Lemme just say, from a day today filled with lights being put up, THANK GOD my wife thought enough to get us a $17 photo-sensitive light timer. lol Pretty frigging cool device; something so simple made me smile about 40 mins ago when the lights and inflatables in my yard turned off, on their own. lolI need to thank a couple people for their assistance and caring on this forum cut over:--From VATSIM, and VATUSA, Mr. VATUSA6 Brian Sperduto, for his Guru-ness on the conversion script help! Thanks man!!! Without you I'd still be in the weeds w…

From the FloridaToday, our local newspaper in Brevard countyhttp://www.floridatoday.com/article/200811...ONTPAGECAROUSELIf you care to, check out my picture of the launch taken from my driveway last night. My daughter who was working the launch called and said it was going in 9-minutes. I grabbed a camera and dashed outside. Picture is below in The AVSIM Screen Shots Forum > Real Aviation Related Images.--Roger

Hi there! I posted this here, didn't find a more suitable place. There were several attempts over the years to set up a chat for all flight simulation folks out there, but apparently they all went to nothing, in some reason. So we're setting up an IRC channel on which everyone can chat about all that bothers, have fun. The channel is #VirtualSky, on the DALNet network. For those not familiar with mIRC, here's a short howto manual, but in the end, instead of #piperclub, you should enter #VirtualSky.http://www.piperclub.net/?page_id=9Hope to see y'all there!

Just wanted to let those who haven't yet learned about Global Earth. Developed in India, Unlike Google Earth, It will re-pixelize objects to very fine detail at a very low altitudes. You will be seeing more about this on the news I'm sure. How nice would it be if Microsoft could somehow import this new technology into FS11!Blackie

Hello,As we all know MSFS versions and it's payware addons are getting better and better each day.We see PMDG 747-400 which resembles almost everything in a real aircraft and it's almost like a CBT for 747-400.So my point is,having all these great planes and simulators, specially the upcoming FSX,when will the new FS versions will get approved by FAA as a training platform rather than a game?We all know very well that X-Plane is being approved for pilot training,so why can't Microsoft do something about it,and remove it from the game catagory.Hoping to hear your views on this.Thank youNeevin (Maldives)

Just wandering this..FSX has been out for over TWO Years now, & yet even just viewing the Avsim homepage, users are STILL clearly bringing out more repaints, aircraft, scenery & so on for FS2004 than FSX? ...Why is this? You'd have thought that after two years, any moans & groans people had with FSX compatibility, might have been addressed by now? Or is this not the case? Are people by & large still prefering to fly with FS2004?Thoughts..CheersHyper

Hello all,Me and my girlfriend are flying to Washtington D.C. via Atlanta, GA in December. The departure airport is Stuttgart, Germany ( EDDS, STR ), the airline is Delta Air Lines. Now my question: Since we only have 1h45mins to get our connection flight to DCA ( If flight DL117 from STR arrives at ATL on time ) would it be better to use the ESTA online registration or the I 95W form sheet aboart the flight from STR? I ask this because since we are citizens of Germany we have to go through customs in ATL and I am afraid that there is insufficient time to get the connection. Any suggentions? Thanks mixen82

It takes quite a lot to get me annoyed but having bought a new Saitek Pro Yoke and second throttle quadrant at the weekend I decided to register on their official forum. If you want to read any discussion you have to join otherwise you just get to see a FAQ forum. What? You have to register just to READ??So I start the registration process and the first question I'm asked is my date of birth. Arrgghh! Why do you need to know how old I am? I only want to read forum messages and perhaps ask a question and maybe even help someone. And you need to know my age? Incredible! :-mad So I supply a DoB, a username and my email address. I get a automated response with a registration c…

Hmmm "Good afternoon gents" well a gentleman in my book should sign a post with his name.2nd post at avsim eh? .... ripe for an Ariane con. :)I would say do your research first (at avsim) before buying any FS addon....having said that I am the first to admit to having been too eager to buy.IMHO Ariane are a terrible company and always have been. Charging for paints has been my number one bugbear as their painters have lacked basic skills and the texture mapping! An aircraft has two wings right?...how can you have top and bottom textures for only one wing!:-eek what about registrations on the wing! :-hmmmHow long has it been since the 737 has had no eyebrows? Helloooo Arian…
