I am very concerned about the future of Microsoft Flight Simulator. A recent and relevant editorial in Flying eNewsletter, 'Microsoft Flight Sim Down in Flames? by Robert Goyer' (link:http://blogs.flyingmag.com/left_seat/2009/01/microsoft-flight-sim-down-in-flames.html) has prompted me to express my concerns and propose that AVSIM consider taking a proactive role in preserving the future of FS2004/FSX. I am by the way one of those flight sim enthusiasts who migrated to flying for real at a later age when time and money permitted. I now simulate all my IFR trips with FSX/FS2004 before I go and it always, always adds value to my flights. There is at present an extremely act…

Hi, Its a long time since I posted here or have even followed whats happening in the FS world. A london flat, Lap Top and real world flying meant that FS was sidelined for me. having started to think about a PC and setting up FSX again I was horrified to see the news about FSX.While it is great that so many especially addon companies are up beat about what they can do with FSX in the future I feel despondent especially looking at the old sims now. Pro Pilot, Flight unlimited etc. Now years out of date and it shows.FSX 5 years from now? What future the addon companies without an evolving FSX? Surely someone can take on MSFS with all the code and take it forward for 10 15 y…

Be it the day in (insert four letter word here) that I play FS through MS Live. FS will become completely dead for me that's for sure. To tell you the truth it doesn't bother me that much. As it stands right now I get up, go to work, fly a Boeing as it is and then come home. I don't need FS to be "as real as it gets". Besides I won't give MS the satisfaction of scr-wing us over. I think all the devs that we have now that have talent should get together and create a new flight sim platform. If you look at it and put all the devs together why do we need flight sim. Planes and panels? Heck we already have outstanding devs like PMDG, LDS, Digital aviation, and some up and com…

Hello everybody-After reading all the posts concerning the fall of the ACES studio, I am shocked at the responses from fellow members. While the outrage towards Microsoft is warranted, some of us have truly misdirected it. I am speaking of the X-plane controversy. Those of you swearing to never "switch" to X-plane should seriously rethink that gesture. Microsoft is the company that broke your hearts. Microsoft is the company that fired those dedicated and talented ACES members. That is where you should focus your anger. Microsoft has no interest in your interests.Austin's remarks may seem a little heartless, but I am sure he didn't intend to offend anyone here or the…

Hello everyone. If you found yourself in a position where you wanted to delete a file, protected by BillyG's Gang, as the Divine's gift on Earth, and you could not, because they do not give you the Rights, here is a way to do it.Some of these Services cannot be Permanently shut down, like the "MS Center Store Update" carp. These Services, like the one above can take up to 100% of you resources, tie up your Phone line, etc., and interfere with your normal use. Most of these files / directories are used by some pesky Services that will send information from your system, and by some Spy utilities, like the file "mcupdate.exe".These files will also drain your System of Resource…

This morning I found 2 bits of news that may just indicate that Microsoft is assembling a new team to work on their 'new' flying game. Why they would fire the whole team and then rehire is beyond my logical reasoning, but read for yourself and make up your own mind."I am VERY happy to say that I am now back to doing something productive at Microsoft. My job is basically the same as it was before, but working on a different product (not yet announced and thus doesn't publically exist). I am also happy to say that I have several interviews to conduct in the coming week or so and more folks should be joining me in the world of employment soon. What a relief!"http://paul-flig…

Is it technologically possible to have not just satellite imagery imported into FS, the way TileProxy does it, but also import all the 3D buildings from Virtual Earth? I recently discovered Virtual Earth and it's vast 3D cities (mainly Denver, since that is where I live - I am so fascinated with how much there is to explore in Denver alone). I would absolutely love to have a city like Denver from Virtual Earth in FS, but would it even be possible?

GE 5 has a new tour feature, which is sort of like FSRecorder. It also has sea floor terrain. I saw a demo tour that included both in-air and undersea portions. Sort of reminded me of the "flying sub" that was launched from the Sea View in VTHBOTS. Tour is here (it's an add for Jimmy Buffett FWIW) requries GE 5 betahttp://googleearth.margaritaville.com/buffetthawaiitour.kmzscott s..

Hi All,I listened to the audio recordings of the Captain and ATC and he sounded very professional.I have not seen this picture until today: http://www.foxnews.com/photoessay/0,4644,6...00.html#20_1045Has anyone heard how the Airbus was set for landing? Flaps? Airspeed? Thanks.JimBTW: I just checked my logbook and my flight down the Hudson was 12/3/1995, a great ending to a dual night XC. Seems like a different time (and it was).

Interresting article. Page 2 lists some features in FS11.http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/02/03/mi...lator_partners/quote:Version 11 was coming in a year and a half, which would have catered increasingly to a gaming crowd, not just the current enthusiasts and professionalPlanned features included voice recognition with air traffic control, first-person mode, a full fledged career mode with a job board and a currency system, a lighter-then-air aircraft class, and skydiving. "We were starting to focus more on the game aspect of it than just the simulation," the ACES insider told us.I would hope they were re-writing the gfx & terrain engine too. Not that it matters now.

Is the Dream Really Dead?Well, is it? Why would MS be advertising for this position if it were?My informed opinion is that MS has simply decided to "clean the slate" and rebuild a team centered on MS's long-term goals...Note the bolded text below to put at rest any supposition that it will be an "XBox360" title... :( http://members.microsoft.com/careers/searc...;SortOrder=DescJob Title: Art Management Job Category: Game Design Product: Games Date Posted: 01/30/2009 "Join the team responsible for building the most fun and rewarding flying experiences available on Games for Windows Live. G-BOAD should still be stored at Floyd Bennett Field while it's regular home beside the carrier/museum Intrepid gets an overhaul.Floyd Bennett Field is just across Jamaica Bay from JFK and you might have seen it down there going into JFK. BTW, G-BOAD is not getting the care it should while stored there, went to see it and it's outside a public sports complex on the airfield where it is going down hill and is not even kept clean. Latest is that the nose cone has been broken off by a passing truck, British Airways isn't happy with the lack of care and the contract to keep it on display until 2013 might not get renewed if this keeps up.Edit; as far as I can see, it's still …

Dear CommunityDispite that most of us PS1 addicts some years ago sadly was informed that there would be no new version of Aerowinx Precision 744 Simulator it is now confirmed that a new version of Precision Simulator called PSx (PS 10) is under development for expected release in 2010 :( :( For those of you who know what the original Precision Simulator is all about - I am sure its great news :( For those of you who dont know a clue about what Precision Simulator is all about, then the short story is as follows:Precision Simulator 744 is a DOS stand alone simulator originally released in 1997 which accurately models about 98-99% of the flightdeck systems on the Boeing …
