Hangar Chat
This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. I work as an IT professional in Windows environments and have done so for the last ten years. It's pretty clear where Microsoft are going....the trend is towards centralised control, and subscription based accounts.I don't know what they've got planned for MSFS in the future, but one phrase in particular seemed ominous: Quote Kelda Rericha, a MS spokeswoman: "You should expect us to continue to invest in enabling great Live experiences on Windows, including flying games, but we have nothing specific to announce at this time." That a Microsoft spokesperson would refer to the future of our simulation platform with the phrase "including flying games" seems at first to demons…

I've watched the 1997 movie Face/Off with Travolta and Cage; there's a scene near the beginning that has a "Learjet" type of private aircraft, but with a 5 panel windshield in the cockpit and what appears to be 4 engine opposed to 2 (2 side-by-side on each side). It almost looks like a very small Iilushen, but i cant find reference to a jet like this anywhere. If anyone here has seen the movie and knows what type of jet it is- please let me know!!! Many thank in advance!kdescente1156

...That Will Ruin Your Day."You have busted a TFR...."About an hour ago, a helicopter which had departed Lansing, Michigan was passing through the Chicago airspace while enroute to (somewhere in) California. Presumably this was a ferry flight...In any case, suddenly the controller at Gary (KGYY) called out "aircraft to the west of Gary at about thirty-five hundred feet squawking four-two-three-five, identify yourself."After a brief delay, a pilot responded "Helicopter three-five-nine-foxtrot-juliet*.""Helicopter 359FJ, you have busted a TFR, hover in position and await further instructions..."TSA had the controller instruct the pilot to land at KGYY, shut down, and remain…

It is hard to believe that it is over a quarter of a century since I discovered flight simulation and if I remember correctly it was a Microsoft product runningon a Mac-Apple. I would be interest if anyone can confirm that? A machine with a tiny screen and the simulation was black and white. That is white lines on a black background. It came on one tiny little disk and understandably I think it was only for an area aroundSan Francisco. I those days I was just mucking about and I really did not have a clue about Flying. It was of course the cutting edge of technology but looking back now it seems really very primitive. Of course that was before the advent of the jolly ole …

Hi,A thought came to me last night which could maybe help out the people from ACES studios who recently got the bad news. If any of you are such people or know any of them, I work for CAE, and I am sure you could be useful to our company, being a flight sim company as well. If any of you would like to submit your resume, let me know and i'll be sure to guide you to the right person. Today Stephen Harper is here to announce that we are getting a 500,000,000$ contract so we will be busy for years to come.Regards,Marc P

There is a lot of discussion about X-Plane in the thread Austin (X-Plane) writes about MSFS.Maybe it would be beneficial to have a wish list thread so that Laminar Research can get a better understanding of what FS9/FSX users do not like about X-Plane.After a couple of weeks we could summarize this thread and send Laminar Research a succinct email describing the short comings of X-Plane from a FS9/FSX users perspective.Note that the current version of X-Plane is 9.22 a demo of which is available here:-http://www.x-plane.com/demo.htmlSince X-Plane has rapidly evolved over the last couple of versions it's probably best to only post wishes to this thread after trying the l…

I should have have posted this yesterday, but I found out about it too late in the day. The grand old girl turned 40 on Tuesday. I personally think that she's still the best looking airliner ever designed and built and she still holds her good looks for her age today. Here's the Seattle Times story from Tuesday for everyone's perusal and flying memories. Happy birthday! :(http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/boei...stflight09.htmlLets hope that the 747-8 keeps her flying for years to come.http://www.boeing.com/commercial/747family/Kim

Here, in Australia, we are used to bushfires around this time of the year. However, this summer has been far from ordinary. A combination of drought, extremely hot weather and the murderous stupidity of arsonists have combined to create one of the worst disasters this nation has seen. One of our southern states - Victoria - is currently battling bushfires that have so far claimed over 180 lives. Firefighters fear that number could exceed 300 when this is all over. Disaster experts with experience working on the Bali bombings have arrived in Victoria from other states to search more than 700 destroyed homes for human remains. Doctors in burns wards say this is worse than t…

Hello,I have just stumbled upon the knowledge of a new flight simulator produced by Microsoft. This software appears to be aimed at business entities that seek to train flight personnel. However, some of the screen shots were so inviting that I have taken an interest. The terrain within this software looks extremely convincing. Furthermore, it really does seem to enhance "realism" something we all strive for in this hobby. Is there anyone here who has experienced this software? If so, please leave a post or IM me. I really would like to hear a person's review before making a decision. Thanks

This is just my honest opinion:While FSX may be the last version of Flight Simulator as we know it, maybe its not that bad a thing after all. If flight sim doesnt get updated, we wont be forced to spend money updating our computers to its standards. Addon developers will not have to constantly update their products for the next version of FS, and focus on improving the present versions of their software for FS2004/FSX. Anyone Agree?Just a thought Alex CYUL

I'm not a writer, I just have an idea. So Ahead of time I apologize if I jump around...I've been in this hobby for many years. It was FS that got me into flying... 15 years after my first copy of FS I am now a pilot, and an Air Traffic Controller.I've had the pleasure of befriending some amazing individuals who have lead this hobby to what it is today.Tom, Many years ago a guy named Bill Malloway (sp?) lead me to this site. He worked for you back in the days of FS5... I've been coming here ever since.I also use to visit simflight quite a bit as I established a relationship with Miguel Blaufuks and began reviewing for their site. I've designed scenery (back in the days …

I'm a member of Delta Virtual Airlines and started a thread on their forum regarding the demise of the FS team. Here is a link to the forum post:http://www.deltava.org/thread.do?id=0x1268a**************************************************The more people that contact Microsoft telling them "WE" want our Microsoft Flight Simulator the better the chances are it'll be brought back. Pass this contact info on to as many forums as possible!!Yes, this may be a long shot, but let us NOT just sit here, let us try and do something about it!https://support.microsoft.com/contactus/ema...08&ws=mscom Michael A. SMART &@($* ANSWER #2It was mealtime during an airline flight.'Would you like dinner?', the flight attendant asked John, seated in front.'What are my choices?' John asked.'Yes or no,' she replied.SMART &@($* ANSWER #1A flight attendant was stationed at the departure gate to check tickets. As a man approached, she extended her hand for the ticket and he opened his trench coat and flashed her.Without missing a beat, she said, 'Sir, I need to see your ticket, not a stub.'JimCYWG
