Hangar Chat
This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc. Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view. Hi Everyone,In response to the RIF of the ACES team, I wanted to put together an open letter of support/concern both for them and for the future of the franchise. This is not a militant movement, nor does it make any real demands. I understand economics as well as the next guy. I understand that sometimes actions must be taken by accountants far removed from the heartbeat of the fanbase. It is simply a way for our community to express the passion and commitment that many of us have to the Flight Simulator franchise. I have estabished the following URL in support of this project: http://www.supportflightsim.comThe form that you will find there allows folks to sign a statem…

The following is just an opinion, and is not meant to offend anybody. So, please don't be offended. It is normal for people suffering from shock to display disappointment, resentment, and even a bit of hysteria. We are seeing this at the moment in the various enthusiast web sites. And yet there really is no reason to despair, at least not yet.Perhaps now that there has been some time since the initial announcement, people will start to calm down and consider the situation with more serenity.Microsoft has been changing its business model for the last few years as it determines the new challenges it will face in the market. Facetiously, we might say that they are:1. Web-base…

Though this may be a little naive on my part, it seems to me that it may not be too late to do something effective about Microsoft's decision on FS. The good folks at AVSIM have been focused on enhancing our FS experience through this website (forums, the add-on file database, and user conventions) etc. Perhaps they might be willing to take on another role. One more similar in nature to AOPA in which they act as lobbyist. It seems to me the existence of our hobby is at stake and we need to pull out all the stops.I can think of 3 immediate things that should be immediately done:1) AVSIM should generate some press releases and grant interviews to the various PC & gaming…

I would like to hear some opinions on this group who say the flight path and movements of some planes on 911 was unrealistic and there are alot of other things that shows these pilots something is wrong in the official explanation of what happened that day?http://pilotsfor911truth.org/index.htmlDo you think these pilots just want to make money or do they have legitimte grounds to sceptisism of the official story?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/7859807.stmFor this to be caused by wind surely he must have been landing with a tailwind? When this happens to me in a taildragger in FSX it's usually because I've applied too much brake...Colin

This idea might sound silly, naive, but petition's have worked before, i.e bringing back the Futurama TV series for one, forget about targeting it at Microsoft or Steve Balmer, aim it at the guy who gave flightsim life, ultimately it's history is with Bill Gates, even though he is not as involved with Microsoft now as he was, i suspect Flight Simulator, like Windows and DOS are product lines that have meant a great deal to Mr Gates.Avsim has 53,000 registered users and who knows how many other silent users.plus the multitude of other related sites. this is a large dedicated fanbase that should be exploited and galvanised to help protect the future of the Flight-sim series…

NO NEW SIM...NO NEW COMPUTER...NO WINDOWS 7Microsoft is really shooting themselves in the foot with the discontinuation of Flight Sim. If they were smart they'd be putting extra focus on the gaming end of the business. Face it, these days computers are more than powerful enough to run any applications thrown at them excluding cutting edge games. I can't count how many computers I've built over the years and how much money I've spent JUST BECAUSE OF FLIGHT SIMULATOR!! Gone are the days of the short computer life span. People are NOT going to buy a new computer just to run Office 8.Microsoft just doesn't get it. If there are no games in their future there will be no …

Well we had the big switch today when all analog TV was going away. They said at noon the analogs were to go dead, but all afternoon they were showing on all analog stations a loop on hw to connect and scan the digi converter boxes.Unfortunately our NBC affiliate has a lame low power digital transmitter so I no longer get it. Probably not missing anything but I will have to search out a super bowl watching site.scott s..too cheap for cable

So,With MS exercising the "fuel shutoff valve," how many other inactive pilots like me will be slowly moving back to the RW cockpit? After my AME died about two years ago, I let my medical lapse. It was a miracle if he got the EKG thingy to work right on the third try. Nice guy though. To tell you the truth I missed it, but not the cold. At times I was too busy to notice I missed it.If you are in the skies between KTTN & KPNE in 2009, watch out for a rental 172 not using enough rudder, flying a B52 pattern and usually above the visual glideslope. How about you?Jim

What is it with all of these airports building new runways out in the middle of heck, a hundred miles from the rest of the airport? I'm specifically talking about IAD and CLT, and in older news, CVG. Just curious for your takes on it.

Any experts out there who can comment on how AirBus A320 Fly by Wire control apparently continued to function after total engine loss? One would assume that all Generators and Hydraulic Pumps ceased function as the engines shut down from bird ingestion. What servos then, were available to actuate control surfaces?Presumably there would be battery power sufficient to send control signals from flight deck to the servos- but what powered the servos? Does the Airbus have an external generator turbine similar to the Boeing 767?Does the A320 have a backup cable control system to substitute for Fly by Wire in the event of total power loss? Alex Reid

I was browsing through jetphotos.net and i found this picture of a KLM MD-11. On the lower-right corner of the picture there is a red circle with some sort of instrument in it. http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=...711&nseq=69At first I thought it was a pitot tube, but after closer inspection it appeared to be something else. It looks like the arm extending out perpendicular to the aircraft is attached at the middle of the red circle. I'm thinking it looks like it could be an angle of attack indicator? Does anyone else know what it is?-Mike!
