Hangar Chat
This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. Just wanted to pass on to everyone in the Hangar that I got my first-ever hole-in-one today (Friday, May 8th, 2009). :( I did it at the Pohick Bay Golf Course located in Fairfax County, VA on the Par 3, 11th hole. I've been a member at this course for the past 4-5 years. It's quite an exciting event, this hole-in-one thing! But the best part, the guy I was golfing with secretly called back to the clubhouse and advised them of my feat. When we finished and returned to my car, there were two large Congrats ballons on the car and the staff all came out to personally offer their congrats and shake my hand. We all went back into the clubhouse where I bought everyone a b…

Hi folks,I've always been wondering, how is cruising altitude determined? All I know is something about the FL being odd-numbered if you're flying west and even-numbered if you're flying east. Are there any other factors? For example, in an Airbus A319, what would be the ideal cruising altitude between Lisbon (LPPT) and Funchal, Madeira (LPMA) (About a 1.2 hour flight)? Thanks!

I recently picked up the Digital Aviation Fokker and have a few questions on some of the finer technical aspects of it. I tried registering on the forums several days ago (4 or 5 I believe) and recieved a "Welcome to Digital Aviation" e-mail. However, they still have no activated my account and I remain unable to post on the forum.I can't seem to find any other way to contact them to sort this out and would really like to be able to post on the forum.

This one's unbelievable. A Japan Airlines 747 sucked a cargo container into the number one engine from a nearby baggage carrier tow cart. It didn't quite fit in the opening although it probably damaged the main fan. Somebody goofed and I bet the passengers were ######!http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30690757/

I recently got an email from "First Class Simulations" ([email protected]) to my personal email address, advertising the PMDG MD-11.However, I have never registered with them, and apparently I would have no need to as they are supposedly an internet store at the other side of the world. I used the forgotten password link and my email address is indeed not registered with them.So how did they get my email address to solicit the product, and are they even an authorized reseller? The website they included in the email is "www.firstclass-simulations.com".Pictures of the email:Pictures deleted... let's not give them a full page color ad here at Avsim as a reward for spamm…

Tom, I'd like your permission to copy to my vanity writing website the computer science related posts in the following temporary forum thread ... (And the Electric Avenue song parody.)http://linux.myalbemarle.org/forums/viewto...?f=32&t=368If you grant permission I'll attribute the whole conversation to Avsim and will provide a link back to both your front page and the forums.May I do it?

We will be shutting down the Temporary Forums on Thursday evening EDT. If there is anything you want there, or want to copy to these forums, please do so now, because when we shut it down, all messages will be lost.

We may have to shut the AVSIM Web Server and Forums tonight or tomorrow morning. There will be notice other than this one, that the shutdown has taken place. If we have to shut down the system, we will probably not be back online for at least 24 hours. Please spread the word that this was an expected shutdown, and be assured that we will be back as soon as we can. We will post more information on this shutdown once we are back online.

I recently flew on a Northwest (Delta livery) A330-300. During the boarding process, contemporary music was played .... is there any way I can find out the names of the songs, and the artists? :(.

At the age of 18, only having been heavily immersed in aviation as a hobby for 3 years, I feel lucky to have seen some pretty amazing things, regarding my hobby.I've been privileged enough to have been free given access to a long-decommissioned WW1/WW2 Airbase, where I've been up close and personal with a replica Spitfire and Hurricane, and also an Avro Anson (pictures below). I've also seen an A380 do incredible maneuvres at very low altitude, such as 60 degree banks. I've seen a Douglas C-47 do a few low passes, too. (I also had a little fiddle while I was there, too. I span an engine component from the long-dead engine of the Anson with my hand... haha!)One time, I saw…

This may be a simple question, but I suspect that the answers are going to be convoluted, complex and not all that simple. So, here goes... How many types of simmers are there? Is it as simple as two; get me flying ASAP, or I want the total reality? Or is it more complex; VFR, IFR, Heavy Metal, GA, Sport, etc? Or is it online or offline? Am looking forward to your answers.

http://www.bestofyoutube.com/story.php?**...-more-efficientfor those who are interested i came across this video of what is supposedly the future of air traffic controlcomputerized it sends messages directly to aircraft computers rather then the normal radio message. it also shortens flight time by not requiring the plane to go over certain areas and avoiding bad weather. this is supposed to save fuel, shorten flights, limit delays and make the holding pattern as well as airspace around the airport more efficient.

A court in Sweden has jailed four men behind The Pirate Bay (TPB), the world's most high-profile file-sharing website. Frederik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, Carl Lundstrom and Peter Sunde were found guilty of breaking copyright law and were sentenced to a year in jail. They were also ordered to pay 30m kronor (

Hi thereI'm looking at getting this game for a bit of fun... Dont worry I am not lulled into a sense of this being anywhere near realistic flight sim - I have FS2004 with a tonne of add-ons for that :( . But I wondered, what platform I should go for..I have a new PC with i7 920 processor (@3.6Ghz), 6Gb RAM, 9800GTX+ graphics card, and I run a 24" monitor at 1920x1200 (I think). Standard 2 speaker setup. But I also have a PS3, hooked up to a 46" LCD TV running in full 1080p HD, and connected to a surround sound system.I have a joystick for the PC, but only the (dual shock) controllers for the PS3.Anyone have any opinion which will look better / run smoother / is the bet…
