Hi y'all,I recently fell in love with FSX because I upgraded to Windows 7 last week and the difference in performance between Vista and 7 is amazing. Double the framerate on my system. This opens a new world in simming for me, it's almost like FS11! I have invested in more addons (over $100 worth just this weekend - shh, don't tell the wife) and I plan to make heavy use of the sim. FS9 doesn't offer much over FSX anymore since FSX is no longer a slideshow. The one thing, and it's a big thing, that I miss with FSX is FS Navigator. That program will truly be missed. So it's been a while since I checked on things and my question is - has anybody found a similar program to use …

Sorry for the probable missed topic section, but is there a specific 737 PIC section? I see a PMDG section but don't see a specific FeelThere/Wilco. I just have a question about the 737 weather radar. I emailed Wilco, but they are a little lethargic in their responses.ThanksNorman

I recently discovered 2 unauthorized charges on my debit card tonight both from AV companies Mcafee & Kaspersky, both charges are from DRI (Digital River). I mention this here because the account that this happened with is only used for online purchases, 90% of which are Flight Sim related the other 10% are books. A Google search on this turns up many similar stories and some accusations towards Pay-Pal and Amazon (I have used both on this account). I have closed and re-opened a new account and filed a fraud complaint with my bank and I'm debating a police report.I'm not trying to start a panic here I'm just saying check your statements regularly, especially after a p…

My signature image has gone AWOL. I assume that something or someone has removed it - I definitely didn't do it myself. In the past I've had the wrath of Avsim on my head for violating signature image size (a 24-hour posting ban - in all fairness I got a warning first, but my attempt at correcting matters evidently wasn't sufficient), so this time I tried reading the rules very carefully. This is the offending image:This is a subset of the FAQ about signature images:# Images that clearly show the user to be a fan or supporter of a particular entity are allowed, but shall be in good taste and meet our size restrictions# An image included in the signature shall strictly adhe…

I installed AVG free 9.0 (AVG suggested support for ver 8.5 was to end 30 Nov). After installing, my desktop seemed to be really slow (opening folders, clicking on shortcuts, etc). Doing a little searching brought up a good number of user complaints about 9.0, some with severe slow down problems. The problem seems related to a new feature in 9.0, which runs a background process that builds a cache of file data, supposedly to speed up scans through "optimization". There is no way to stop this background process from running, though AVG web site suggest a future program upgrade may provide this capability. In the meantime, users are disabling the cache exe program so …

These threads often pose the imaginary question; could you fly and land a real world B747 if you had to? Some say they could, while others say that our FS hobby really doesn't prepare us for the reality of flight. Some suggest that while a B747 is out of the question, they would feel confident of being able to land a real world Cessna if the situation occurred. But others suggest that regardless of aircraft type or size, our unfamiliarity with actual flight including the sensations of g-forces, turbulence and inertia are likely to quickly overwhelm many of our senses. Those senses that are still functioning are likely to be unreliable as they suffer from the reaction to …

  15. I was on digg.com and I found this: http://contentsutra.com/article/419-how-co...it-from-piracy/Apparently, according to at least one game developer, piracy is actually a positive thing. This is actually interesting to me, because this is instead of just bashing piracy, figuring out ways to benefit FROM piracy as a developer. I am anti-piracy myself, as I do develop software, however I gotta say this, this is something that appears to be a pretty good take on an alternative solution and an alternative view point. Perhaps flight simulation add-on developers may be able to find a way to benefit from piracy rather than just feeling ripped off. This guy actually brings up som…

Hello All,Here's another quick newbie question for all you pros to answer:Do small, privately owned airports have to be listed on aviation sectional charts? For instance, I enjoy virtual flight in NY State and there are several private small fields I like to takeoff and land from (some that come to mind are 1NY2, 1NY1, near the Pulaski/Sandy Pond area). When trying to locate these fields on the NY sectional, however, they do not seem to be referenced. Interestingly, though, SkyVector.com does "see" these airfields in its Flight Planning Tool and you can include these in your flight plan - however, they don't appear to be displayed on the sectional itself. So, please cla…

You're not cool in the aviation/FS universe until...- You can land at Courchevel and St Barths with your eyes closed.- You make a fraps video of your 747-400 landing at TNCM.- You visit TNCM for real.- You traverse the atlantic in a Concorde.- You can fly the PMDG 744 better than a C172.- You land on a carrier.- You have flown at KEDW.- You start from cold & dark, every time, without fail.- You know the start-up procedure of a 737 inside out.- You have flown an actual aircraft.feel free to add to this!

I was one of many CS customers who was tricked by CS when they announced their last weekend sale (they say I and many others were not tricked). The e-mail stated everything "in the Captain Sim On-line store" was on sale for 9.99 Euros, as this current one does so I went online during the sale and entered their store and bought the C-130 ProPack. I was charged the normal price (I think $80??) and not 9.99 but thought this would be fixed when I completed the transaction. Didn't happen. I was charged the full amount as many others and efforts by many others to get the sale price after the fact were unsuccessful. We were told after the fact that you had to click on the s…

As I am beginning my master's degree in urban planning next month and I am a long time fan of Simcity (NOT THE SIMS), I was wondering if anyone has purchased it. If so, what do you think? The problem with SimCity was that you basically ran in to a wall with what you were able to create. Even with freeware add ons, there was only so much you could do with their grid system.

Did anyone hear that EMB 170/175 autopilot limitations on Cat I landings was 400 AGL? This makes no sense to me but someone claims this to be the case? Is it possible that this limit would apply to some operators only? Thanks for any insights.
