Hi,Apologies for the rather unusual topic but was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts to reassure a nervous flier that flying in a Cessna 172 is really safe. As I mentioned in an earlier topic I'm a nervous flier who recently started taking a few trial lessons to see if I could overcome my fear of flying. Have taken 3 lessons and was still pretty scared during the last lesson (although it doesn't seem to get in the way of my flying I can still handle turns, simple climbs and descents ok when under instruction).I think the main problem with my fear is that I still don't believe that flying in a Cessna 172 or light aircraft is safe and I would rather have my feet on…

Hi all,Well, it seems Laplink have managed to accomplish something that Microsoft couldn't, (or wouldn't?), and that's the transfer of programs from XP to Windows 7:http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2353301,00.aspThere are some caveats like not moving hardware drivers and software that uses its own hardware drivers, such as antivirus applications and it remains to be seen just how effective PCmover proves to be following its release in October, but it could be just the thing I need to persuade me to make the leap when I've a mind to do so.However, it does beg the question as to why Microsoft could not or would not provide a similar upgrade route for all those XP users…

Hi there,Just out of curiosity, what is the purpose of the 3rd CDU which is in many wide-body, long-range aircraft? It is normally located toward the back of the centre pedestal. Such examples can be found in the MD-11, and the Boeing 747-400. Considering the the norm is 2 crew members operating the aircraft, it really does seem strange to me that there should be another CDU for what appears to be a Flight Engineer. Even if the aircraft is carrying a relief crew or a jumpseat passenger, there is still only 2 people operating the aircraft.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, as I could not find a Windows or OS forum. I just want to tell all Vista users and all Windows 7 users that might not get Windows 7, Microsoft promised DirectX11 will come to Windows Vista at the same time as Windows 7. Don't forget that Windows 7 is only a "fix" for windows vista with new features. Some features will also be ported to Vista from Windows 7 as well in the Platform Update for Windows Vista! If you want you can even get some features and DirectX11 for Windows Vista right now, it is a Platform Update for Vista BETA.The final will come when Windows 7 is released! So don't feel out non-Windows 7 users. I am to lazy myself to…

For those that didn't know, Flight Aware has the ability to report every aspect of a route including it's accent/decent rates (I've heard this questioned asked before). For those looking to fly like the real airliners there's a wealth of info here. It's insightful to see how the various aircraft ascend to altitude and how far out and shallow the decent is to the destination airport. Note how Airbus's (A319/20) can climb out at rates of 3,400FPM, 737-700's climbing out of KMDW at 3,000fpm, and by comparison MD80's out of KATL climbing out at 1,980fpm. The step climbing with as little at +300fpm is interesting as well in the middle of the route. This link is an example f…

I am trying to create some add-on static aircraft for an FS2000 La Guardia scenery. I want to have aircraft from the 1980's. I am having a hard time figuring out what aircraft AA flew into LGA in the 80's. I found photos of a 727-200, DC-10-10, and a 767-200. Does anyone know what AA flew into LGA in the 80's and from what airports? Thanks.

I just visited FSInsider. The only things that seems to have been updated recently are the feeds from Aero News - an external site. I can find nothing else dated later than 2008. Even the latest news letter in the archive is dated 1 November 2008.It looks as if Microsoft is letting it die on its feet.

An Israeli F-16 fighter jet has crashed on sunday, killing the pilot. The jet was on a routine training flight when he suddenly crashed. The 21-year-old pilot, Assaf Ramon, was the son of Israel's only astronaut, Ilan Ramon, who died in the explosion of the US space shuttle Columbia in 2003. Assaf graduated from the Israeli air force pilot's course and received his pilot's wings from President Shimon Peres in June 2009.Rest in peace Assaf.

I know FSX doesn't do a good job with winds, but I'm just wondering the following: For all you real-world pilots out there (especially those operating passenger jets), do you ever run into situations, in the real world, where you have Auto-throttle engaged and autopilot on and your aircraft goes into Overspeed?I'm asking this because every time I fly either the default 737-800 (and a Posky 757) in the Mt. Rainier area, my aircraft will always go into Overspeed because of the wind change.I set the auto-throttle on and autopilot on, with my airspeed at .02 or .03 (sometimes even more) below the cruise mach and it always goes into overspeed.Thanks.

It all started at the end of January 2008. I was doing my usual thing on the computer, and at the time I was heavily in to FPS and racing games on my PC; the typical "gamer". Custom built PC with the neon lights and all that, staying up late in the summer playing scary shooters with the volume turned up, etc, etc. (tons of fun :() At school one of my friends asked me if I've heard of FSX and I had no clue, and he said Flight Simulator X. The first thing that came to mind was BORING. Why would I waste my time flying planes, I mean all you do is turn them left and right and go up and down. But I was so wrong.A few weeks passed into February and my friend kept bugging me to …

After failing to lower the main landing gear a F100 of Contact Air made a belly landing in STR at about 10:40 local. Minor injuries reported. Airport is closed until 14:00 at least. Some airlines (e.g. LH) have cancelled flights to Stuttgart landing prior 18:00.Some pics here:http://www.welt.de/vermischtes/article4530...Notlandung.htmlThe bad thing about it is that I have to go to STR this evening. Hopefully airport has been re-opened until then. Just in case you'd like to know: I will go on a F100 opb Contact Air.

Hi,Just thought I'd try to ask if anyone might have any advice for a nervous flier (to say the least!) who would like to be able to enjoy flying fear free. I go flying with airlines like Ryanair sometimes here and I make it but normally it's quite an ordeal (I worry that I'll fall from a great height or that I'll have a heart attack from the fear etc.).On the other hand I read a website I think called Fearofflyinghelp written by an airline pilot and that helped quite a lot. I know about the layers of safety in aviation (the plane has to pass certification tests and has redundancy, the maintenance people take their job very seriously and the pilots who take safety seriou…
