Hi All, I do hope I've picked the correct Forum.I have used Symantec's Norton Anti virus software for many years and over the last 2 years have suspected that it's not really compatible with my Flt. Sim hobby needs. I believe it is taking far more of my resources than it warrants for a sensible level of protection for my system.I've read somewhere (and specifically relating to Flight Sim programs) that 'AVAST' anti-virus has far less impact on said resources whilst giving a sensible level of protection. This software I understand is made by a Czech company.Does anyone have any observations regarding this particular anti-virus software? Indeed observations on anything con…

Hello everyone, long time no see. I am starting my PhD in Mechanical/Aerospace Eng and I would like to do my thesis in Computational Fluid Dynamics applied to flight simulation modeling.I need to figure out what the state of the art in flight modeling is. It is easy to find information about desktop flight models, but I can't find anything on commercial, military or research sims. Can anyone point me in the right direction?Thank you!

Crossposted from my blog, BraunsBlogThursday, July 16, 2009We Choose the MoonMay 25th, 1961. President John F. Kennedy sets what turns out to be one of the loftiest goals ever set for a nation, or perhaps...even for a planet. From the archives of the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & MuseumFirst, I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth. No single space project in this period will be more impressive to mankind, or more important for the long-range exploration of space; and none will be so difficult or expensive to accomplish. We propose to a…

Hello,Here we are, I put myself in the creation of a site on my realizations. We shall discover it my frees and my participations for the others.http://sites.google.com/site/aimecreations/No download except that some " readme ', not enough space and bandwidth. It is not complete and it is possible that things do not work correctly. In an ethical purpose, no publisher for whom I worked will be quoted, because it is not the purpose of this site.(excuse my English ;-)Best regardsAim

:( I am running FS2002 with Windows ME. Somehow the DirectX8a program which was loaded with FS2002 has been corrupted? lost? In any event it doesn' t seem to be working. Each time I attempt to load FS2002 an error message is displayed "FS2002 requires DirectX8a. Reinstall FS2002" (or something to that effect). But when I attempt to reload FS2002, a window appears with an option to install DirectX8a, yet when I select that option it no longer installs DirectX8a. I've attempted to download version 8a from Microsoft but nothing I've tried works. I can see the individual files and folders on Disc 1 of the FS2002 discs but I don't know what directories need to be set up and wh…

I have a dual boot system; XP-Pro and Windows7Today I installed a 64bit version of XP, replacing the 32 bit system.I wrongly assumed the boot-up option screen was controled by Windows7, so now of course, it just boots straight into XP-Pro.Is there any way of fixing this, or do I need to reinstall Windows7Any feedback greatly appreciated. Thanks

A few months ago I purchased the Turbine Sound Studios JT8d sound set with intentions of using it with the Dream Fleet 727. After watching the Youtube videos made by the developer himself and seeing the "tested with the Dream Fleet 727" at the beginning of the video, I figured using them would go without a hitch.Once installed I loaded the 72' cold and dark and began the start procedure. Long story short, the start sound loops over and over until fuel is added and the engine(s) are started. It sounds like crap, for lack of a better analogy. After a few post (along with another unsatisfied customer) the developer, Christoffer Petersen, has I guess decided to ignore my qu…

Check out this video of a guy who's converted a driver's license and some old pennies into MIDI controllers: If they work as midi controllers, it's not a stretch to think they might work as flight sim controllers as well.Might be a neat, cheap solution for adding custom-placed buttons and switches to a home cockpit.Anyone have more info on this guy? It looks like the videos are a couple of years old--I just came across them yesterday.

Hi guys,Those of you who might still be debating whether or not to 'upgrade' to Vista may be interested to learn that XP support continues until 2014. However, you will have to have SP3 installed. SP2 support lasts for a further year then it will stop.http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=254851I did hear a rumour that this was indeed the case, but it was nice to have it confirmed nevertheless.Mike

Hi,Just curious, does anybody have any news about the International Flight Simulator Consortium that was setup awhile back? I think it sounds like a fantastic idea but I haven't heard anything since. It would be interesting to know who was involved and what the consortium was aiming to achieve. I am assuming it was something a bit like AOPA for the desktop sim community. Can anybody shed any light? CheersRhydian

These guys, http://www.deltasimstudio.com/ , offer ship models with VC's and they are really good looking, but I would never buy one.Flight sim doesn't model water and driving a boat around in it would, to me, be incredibly pointless. My question is a curious one: Why are there ships/yachts/boats for sale for a flight sim?

Awhile back we were all discussing what would happen if a simmer found him/her self in a situation where they needed to land a heavy with no practical flight experience other then Flight Simulator. I don’t fly heavies that often, (I can though), although I find myself doing a lot of bush flying and the like. So I was wondering, I think I could easily fly a single or twin engine GA aircraft in almost every flying condition, (except for the worst ones), navigate and land the mini-beast with no issues whatsoever. Even yawing into the wind…Am I delusional or what? Mark
