I know these planes uses air cycle machine rather than refrigeration machine to provide cold pressurized air (11 psi). I know ACM are powered by hot bleed air and that most airliners use 2 or 3 packs that consist of turbine/compresor, primary/secondary air to air heat exchanger, moisture separator and catalystic converter to remove harmfull ozone. Trim air is used to provide different output temperatures to different zones. Then I read something about electric powered recirculation fans mounted overhead and under floor. They should recirculate cabin air through manifold system, but please someone explain how is this done. I aslo read that first bleed air cooling is done in…

Just a brief obvservation --I surmise that many simmers must also be football fans as I cannot help but notice how little "action" takes place in the forums here (and at other sites I frequent) on Saturday afternoons (College Football) and on Sunday afternoon (Pro Football) and again on Monday night (Pro Football). At least I observe very little "traffic" during those times by users from the USA.I wonder if sites track forum useage by the day and hour and if so, if they observe the same thing.Food for thought in any case. :(

  3. I recently read a thread that displayed a little bit of racial intolerance. Full marks to the mods who quickly nipped it in the bud. It's too easy sometimes to focus on the miniscule and forget to look at the wider picture. I don't think anyone was really hung up on race in their discussions but like our joysticks, sometimes we all need to be 'recalibrated'. :( So, big picture...Christmas is near. Hang on a minute..this is an international forum and perhaps Christmas is not ...shall we say...to everyones liking. Fair enough. These two paragraphs highlight three facts: 1. This is an international forum and visitors to this forum are multi-cultural, 2. Our faiths are many …

  8. I've been out of the game for a number of years due to my employment obligations. When I left, MS was, as far as we knew still chugging along with FS and talk of ACES going away was no where on the radar screen. I returned just recently and found that, well evidentially I had missed alot. Not wanting to turn this into another ACES is gone thread, lets just speculate about what the future holds in general for our wonderful hobby. We have FSX in its present form which is a wonderful sim, its still available to purchase through various vendors and no one can say there is a lack of quality add ons either. We have X-Plane which just released 9.40 and it has a small but loyal foll…

Currently Buffalo Airlines flies DC3's, DC4's and C46's ( http://www.icepilots.com/fleet.php ).They are flying into short runways of approx 4000 ft.They need to carry large payload (6 tonnes to 10 tonnes) and do so in extreme winter conditions - and be fuel efficient. So my question is this:What would be a suitable modern aircraft that could replace these WWII era birds ?thanks,Mark.

I thought 2012 was a big, sillly, loud and enjoyable movie with great special effects and a predictable storyline. One thing I enjoyed were all the airplanes. Every simmers fantasy of being tossed into airplanes ranging from a light twin to an AN-22 with only a couple of real life lessons gets played out. I am absolutely sure I could dodge much of Los Angeles become suddenly airborne with such aplomb in a twin, and pull an AN-22 vodka burner out of a dive just like that, too. There were some nice touches. The icon card taped to the panel of the Russian airplane. (Certain implications and observations are way beyond the scope of a simulated airplane forum, therefore I wi…

Perhaps Tom can answer this -Some of us have been wondering if the Readers Choice Awards section was recovered after the hack (the recorded votes I mean) andIf the winners will be announced on the site since Fancon was cancelled. If it is still viable, (voting I mean) perhaps a notice on the front page - a reminder of the closing date for votes - would be in order.

  17. Anyone here see this? http://www.salon.com/news/air_travel/index.../askthepilot342The "Ask the Pilot" columnist mocks the idea that modern airliners "fly themselves" (which is unfortunately getting to be the conventional wisdom on the street), emphasizes the importance of trained pilots, and then proposes an experiment: So, any takers?

Hello Im hoping someone can help me here, Im not sure of the techical name but when Im using fs9 and want to switch to the desk top screen I know that it is the key with the microsoft emblem I need to hit. the problem is when I press the key on the keyboard with the windows emblem on it on the bottom row next to the ctrl & alt I can switch to desk top while in flight. My trouble is when I try and go back into flight sim by clicking in the fs9 in the blue tool bar then the sim locks up and I end up with a split screen of black/desk top and no way of re-entering fs9. I hope someone can give me some help in what I need to do to stop this. It was working fine but now it w…

  21. 1.) When you're on the phone with a friend, you tend to repeat the last thing your friend said, followed by your name.2.) When you're about to leave a parking spot, you fumble for Shift+P.3.) After you enter a parking spot, you fumble for F12 to see how good you did4.) When you're about to merge with highway traffic, you reach for your stick and instinctively go "full throttle" into "P", destroying your transmission.5.) When you've arrived at home, you kick off the "reverse thrusters", which ironically seems to work in an automatic-transmission car, since it switches you to a lower gear.6.) When you're stuck in traffic, you wish so hard for a real-life "Slew Mode" so you …

My first successful flight was in FS2002. I took on one of the flights that came bundled with the game, and flew from Pearce Ferry Airport (L25) to Grand Canyon National Park Airport (KGCN) in the default C182. I remember giving the FSATC a shot for the first time upon approach, and thought I'd try a landing while I was at it. I failed numerous times attempting landings before, but this time was different. I don't quite remember my approach, but I do remember being very high passing the airport! On short final, I don't think I had flaps more than 10, if at all (we've all been there!), and made quite a smooth landing. I practiced my touchdown technique with water landings w…
