Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

  1. Surfing idly about the web today I stumbled across salon.com's "Ask the Pilot" blog and have been reading quite a few of the articles and some of the material is fascinating and well-written. I did particularly enjoy this piece and know the Avsim crowd will too:- Don't ask me if I agree with him, I'm not a hardcore simmer and if you put me at the controls of a real aircraft (of any size) I'd crash it.The whole post is here: http://www.salon.com/technology/ask_the_pilot/?page=6 and Patrick's site is here: www.askthepilot.com.Kind regardsDave

  6. Hope I'm in an appropriate forum for this. I've seen a few flight sim web sites (VAs and such) which display maps generated by the handy great circle mapper (gc.kls2.com) but I can't find any support on the site itself for figuring out how to generate and include those maps on my site. Anybody got any experience in this? Thanks.

  8. Curious... What was the first commercial add-on and freeware add-on available for flight simulator? From my brief research it looks like Microsoft was really the first around FS5.0 but I am thinking of a 3rd party add-on. I imagine back in the day of bulletin boards?Clutch

G'day Folks,Reading Bryan's post here: http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=289835It occured to me this topic needed its own thread. The A10-C Warthog is an airplane built around a gun, the GAU-8 Avenger 30MM Cannon - Which has more or less made the airplane famous. It fires DU rounds at nearly 4,000 Rounds per minute. It's been a staple in US CAS since its introduction to combat in 1991.Okay enough talk, more media!!DCS A10 dev note 2: Startup: Screenshots and a QA:http://www.gamingshogun.com/Article/7060/D...creenshots.htmlThis is going to be the number one software title of the year for me personally. :)

Looking back on my April edition of AOPA Pilot magazine, there was a great article on the TECNAM. They also manufacture the TWIN Echo Super and the Sierra light sport aircraft. Have any of you had experience with this aircraft, and is there a possible FSX edition coming soon? I'd love to hear about it, and of course, would love to fly it in FSX. The TECNAM looks like a nice plane to fly.Stan

Recently, we had a situation arise that, as a member here, you should be aware of.We found that a user who did not identify himself as having a commercial interest in flight simulation, was posting messages that on the surface, appeared to be posts of an enthusiastic user letting all of us know of a product release. We were able to conclusively show that his message originated from an IP address that was owned by this flight sim publisher. We won't name names, as the situation has been resolved to our satisfaction, however, we thought you need to know.My message is simple... To the average, non-commercial member of our forums, beware... What appears to be an enthusiastic …

It saddened me to read today that Vulcan XH558 might not, now ever take to the skies again. After 20,000 people donated and a Heritage Lottery Grant, it seems that she is doomed to remaining a static memory?I recall watching grown men and women in tears watching the last airshow display of this wonderful aircraft. I myself had a big lump in my throat as the bomb doors opened and the word 'Farewell' was displayed using black tape on the inside of the doors.Priorities of financial support these days by the environmental controllers, seem to go in the wrong direction IMO.Dave T. .........On the Devon Riviera and active 'FlightSim User's Group' member at http://www.flightsimg…

This post is going to start off a bit weird...I've been going to the library as far as I can remember (I can't remember anything past 5 lol), but when I stopped visiting it as often around 13 or 14. I guess this may have been due to technology; I read a lot of things on the computer and school required a lot of computer use and reading on the computer. Now don't get me wrong I love the computer and the PC, if I didn't I don't think I would be as much of an FSX addict as I am :(, plus I wouldn't be taking programming classes, and classes for HTML, Dreamweaver and Adobe Flash. It's good to learn and acquire knowledge, but I think its good to also read things in paper form w…
