a beech queen air went down in the lagoon by my office complex today. it's just north of san carlos airport (ksql)... a lot of the planes go right over my building so i like to listen to the engines and guess what they are. today i heard this crazy one, it sounded like it was all rattling and also like it was running really high power...maybe this could be caused by one engine failed but the other was wound up to compensate?? it sounded kind of scary and weird. it was really hot out today (only a couple of times this year it's got up to the 90s) so i wonder if that was a contributing factor.ah well, anyway it's pretty sad. passenger was an old school ww2 bomber pilot, who…

why my message about the lottery to win a plane it was erased?for forum "Hangar Chat" I read : "This forum is for the discussion of real world aviation topics and any other topics not covered in other forums. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here."I felt that I could put it here ?this is not a commercial advertisement ... it is just a flying club (non-commercial) that organizes a lottery ... and I thought it might interest many virtual pilots ...win a plane for 19 € ... we do not see this every day ...Patrice

According to posts on other websites -Ian Thatcher, (Thatch), died on Saturday 28/08/2010.Ian was the founder of FS-Shipyards, and a former supporter of both The ODG Project and FREEflow.Ian Thatcher was an extremely prolific developer of flight-sim content, across nearly all aspects of the platform. To such an extent that most simmers who download, possibly have at least one of his products installed, yet are unaware, as he'd published them under a series of assumed identities.e.g.As Gerrish Gray - Various tree enhancement packagesAs Andy Weir - Various terrain-meshes and landclass packages.Over the years Ian has supplied hosting to many developers and groups, providing an in…

Hey folks,as I am just rearranging a lot of stuff on a few HDs I thought my folder "organization" is really not very useful. I was wondering if there is a more elegant way for e. g. the following:i) I could create a subfolder "Aviation" under My Files. Inside I want to have pics, docs, etc... and other stuff, so I would have subfolders for these things inside.ii) OTOH, I could have seperate "Aviation" subfolders under all of those default "My Pictures", "My Documents", etc. folders.Maybe Aviation is not a very realistic example but it could be just about anything else. Nevertheless, either way I come up with redundant folders, either many "aviation" subfolders or multiple…

Hey folks,I have some paper version of a CFM56-7B airflow/cutaway drawing, very similar to this. If someone knows where to obtain a digital version of that very engine I'd greatly appreciate it. Ideally though, it would be HQ if not even vector drawn (like in a PDF or so). Otherwise, if someone has a link to some other HQ graphic of other CFM56 variants, it would be great. Even if it's not a CFM, just shoot away, I'd really be happy for anything as long as it's hi-res and detailed. Thanks in advance. :biggrin:Etienne

I just added a second Saitek throttle quadrant and when I match lever positions on both throttles, I do not get the same engine rpm's. THe new quadrant requires about a 1/3 of inch more lever travel to match the thrust setting of the old quadrant When I checked FSUIPC, I noticed that the values for the max and minimum range for the new throttle are less than the older throttle, which leads me to believe that the newer quadrant has lower resolution potentiometers. Does anyone else experience this issue?EDIT: I should have place this in the computer hardware forum, my apologies. Would a moderator be willing to move this thread please? Thank you.

Based on flight simming, it seems that overspeed happens on occasion when at cruise speeds. I was curious when this happens to real commercial pilots. I know overspeeds need to be reported, but how long can one happen before actual structural damage occurs? How often do overspeeds actually occur? How are they handled? Are there any pilot penalties for encountering an overspeed?

XP Pro presently meets all of my needs and thanks to Nick's advice runs FSX and FS9 just great on my system. So far I have detected no practical reason for me to personally upgrade. However, it looks like Microsoft is encouraging me to continue OS upgrades regardless of my personal preferences. In the process of successfully troubleshooting my daughter's computer and going to Microsoft.com for suggestions, I found the following link which tells me that support for XP ended last month:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/help/end-support-windows-xp-sp2-windows-vista-without-service-packs?os=xpI still am a bit confused. If I am interpreting correctly after more extens…
