Hi,http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2369575,00.aspLOL, this is funny. The more I read tripe like this the more I feel like digging my heels in just to annoy these sad misguided souls. Methinks they protesteth far too much. Some of what he says may indeed be true, but clearly it's in their commercial interests for everyone to make the move so it must be quite worrying, if not annoying, to be faced with this persistent huge resistance to change. The reality is that for the reluctant majority Windows XP, without question, continues to satisfy our needs perfectly well. It may be 'old', but it is tried and trusted, we know it well and it continues to run all the software we…

Myself and a lot of other users in the past few days have noticed that pictures uploaded directly to Avsim are showing as boxes with red X'es in them. When you click on the box with the red X, the picture will usually open, but you can't see the preview anymore. Prior to a few days ago that wasn;t the case.

Just saw this over on another forum. Apparently she had a panic attack and lept from her seat and tried to open the door. I wonder what type of additional panic attack she would have had if she had been successful, opened the door and been sucked out at 30,000 feet. Here's the link to the story. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-20016087-504083.html

HiOkay, im looking for some information on this, the story isi was between 6-8 year old, and we were flying back from Palma (LEPA) we were on a Monarch DC-10-30 (i guess its a -30) and my older brother noticed fire coming from the engine ( i know this through being told the story from my parents)after a short while, and some confusion from me as i had no idea what was going on, we landed back at LEPA, and were stranded there for some hours.i do remmeber parts of it quite clearly, stewardesses running back and forth, crammed back in the terminal and then being sent all over the plave in coaches only to be flown home on a 757 on a very turbulent ride home.i was just wonderi…

Hi Fellow Simmers, Firstly sorry if this has been mentioned already...i checked forum but found nothing.I have found that the last few flights with this beaut of an aircraft that in flight i have had times where i need to deploy airbrake/spoiler, all within the required conditions i add and when i do it stays on, no matter what i try it will not come off. this has caused me to abandon some flights like todays EGKK to KJFK. I was 2 1/2 hours into a flight and had a tail wind/head wind/tail wind in quick succesion which kicked me very close to overspeed (fspax favourite as no doubt some have already found out : ).!! Has this happened to anyone else?? Any ideas would be gre…

Has anyone been on simviation recently? It seems as though all the links are broken, it won't let me download any files. I've been using the site for ages, and this is suddenly happening, and I am wondering if it is the site, or my system/network.

I've been recently suffering a few problems with my PC whenever FSX freezes, either mid-flight or upon engine start up. The last time this occurred, happened when the AFG Beech King Air 300 that I recently ported over from FS9, freezed FSX while the aircraft was still spooling up. The local profile was lost and this message popped out: "Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off".I then realized that normal restarts didn't work, and so I tried turning the system off, and turning it on again. This returned the local profile and the WOAI setups, the AEX setups and th…

PFE offers an option to adjust it so that ATC gives the altimeter setting in inches of mercury, or milibars (hPa). But in the real world, where is inHg used? I know Colombia, Canada, Mexico and the US use inHg, but which other countries? Where do they use mbar? Are there other units used (maybe China and the former USSR)?Best regards from Colombia,Luis Miguel

Saturday night Delta flight 4951 bound for White Plains (KHPN) was diverted to JFK to make an emergency landing because of a landing gear failure on Saturday night. On landing it appears either the right gear collapsed or was never down causing sparks on landing. Thankfully no one was hurt. I'm a little surprised the Aviation RSS feed in the forum never picked up on this one!http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2010/09/25/2010-09-25_delta_plane_with_shoddy_landing_gear_makes_emergency_landing_at_jfk_airport_no_o.html

There was a time when calling Microsoft Flight Simulator a "Game" would have drawn the ire of the entire forum. There was a time when developers were introducing increased systems functionality in their models which culminated in such epic aircraft simulations as the 767 Pilot-In-Command that changed the landscape and complexity of this hobby. With each release from development houses such as LDS and PMDG the bar was increasingly raised the the level of realism was challenged. The envelope of what was possible was pushed and glass ceilings broken. When one sat at the controls of one of these complex aircraft for the first time the feeling of intimidation was palpable.…

I spend hours regularly looking at the hard work that goes into many of the flight simulator videos that enthusiasts produce here on this forum and elsewhere. When searching on youtube there are some real gems showcasing all manner of add-ons but quite often these receive a low number of views I feel because simmers simply can't find them or don't know about them. Also on youtube, there are a lot of slightly less impressive attempts at FS video production which often hides the attempts that are of superior quality and deserve recognition making them harder to find (I often click upload date to see what's new but I'm frequently bombared by fairly weak FS attempts or the us…

I am trying to perfect my checklist and wonder if what I have now is alright or maybe a bit too much...TCAS: STBY during cockpit prep, XPNDR on when taxi, TA ONLY before take off and TA/RA after take off (after thrust reduction). It's the other way around during approach. Then you also have BLW (below), N (I guess that's all) and ABV (above): I turn ABV on during climb, N during cruise and BLW during descent and approach. I set it back to the default N when leaving the runway (maybe during final approach already?). Is this a bit okay or way too much...? Maybe in real life it stays on N all the time and ABV or BLW is only used in certain cirumstances...? And maybe I can tur…
