Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

  2. Holy cow - this is a new plane Boeing built for Southwest Airlines called the Florida 1. In speeded-up video, you get a quick look at what makes America great - smart people building great products. I highly recommend the Boeing "Future of Flight" tour of their Everett Washington plant. You'll see amazing things. The inside tip is the 9am tour - weekends are quieter because most of the workers are not there except for critical jobs and overtime. The process used to built the new 787 Dreamliner is even more stunning... and if seeing the birth of a new airplane doesn't wind your watch, wait till you check the MSRP! The Dreamliner 'base price' is only 202 Million…

I've been doing some snooping around and haven't come up with much luck. Is there a site or forum based on up to date releases that come out for FSX? Something that is updated daily and every time something is released? It would be nice because sometimes I feel like I miss something that gets released and would love to have an article written on each new release.

I've spent the last 40 years watching the float planes land and take off from Vancouver's Coal Harbour wishing that one day I could be up there watching the Lions Gate Bridge slip beneath the wings. Yesterday I finally got to realize that dream, thanks to a chance meeting in a Starbucks. Last year I was sitting in my local Starbucks working on my laptop. A guy came and sat at the next table also with a laptop. He opened it and started to do some work, then appeared to be getting frustrated. He called someone to help him which only seemed to irritate him more, the end result was he needed to bring the laptop into the office the next morning. He looked at me and mu…

Some folks have asked where the "First Unread Post" function is now. If you look closely at the screenshot below, you'll notice that all unread posts are highlighted in soft blue in the leftmost column. There is a dark blue dot icon in the leftmost column as well... ...clicking on that blue dot will take you immediately to the "First Unread Post" in that thread. If there is a blue star instead of a dot, that means that you've made at least one reply in that thread. In the center of the screen note the black circle with a white down-arrow. Clicking on that will allow you to "Preview" the thread without opening it. That makes it quick and easy to see if there's …

I'm writing to you in this area because I want a more Technical Opinion from the PROS. I've been a member for some time here at AVSIM and have enjoyed all you folks bring to this community. I was forced away from this for almost 2 years due to personal matters etc. I want to get back into it, but I am starting from ground zero, I mean everything from computer to flight sim software. I was looking for some solid advise as to the best way to load up my computer, ( hard drive, video card, processor, etc ) and which Flight Sim software is the best to use at the present, Microsoft X, X-Plane? I was using FS9, which I enjoyed, most of the time...lol. Your input would be greatly…

  12. We have made a lot of changes in the last four months or so, executing things that we have been working on for some time. There are more to come, including the new File Library. In the meantime however, I would like to do kind of a tempreture check with you, our members. How are we doing with the new site? Any suggestions? We like to hear your input.

Amen, the old library is back. I did not get much time on the new system, but the lack of being able to scan 100's of items in a short time was a definite set back. PLZ, plz leave the library format as is...we really don't nn new fancy colors etc. It is the information which is supplied that counts, not the "modern" look

I really have great expectations for the cruise, as we were few years ago 8 nights in the Caribbean from Miami with Carnival Valor and we absolutely loved it! Own Balcony is a almost a must! 19. Hi everyone, Bit of another way round to the usual Flight planner questions. Are there any tools (freeware/payware/online) that can tell me available airports within a radius of origin airport? Googling has not been very fruitful on this. EG - Airport A is my origin. I would like to be able to find all available airports of no more than an hour of airport A, or a distance of 500nm (give or take) of it. Can't see that this is something I am able to do in FSCommander or FSBuild. At the moment, I am picking an airport and then guessing distances, which can be a bit hit and miss! Thanks, Leo

Minden Air Corporation is converting a BAe-146 to be used as an air tanker for fighting forest fires. Here is a link to their website. Looks promising! http://www.mindenair.net/minden/BAE-146.html It also looks like a new project for some talented FSX aircraft designer to work on.

I'm working on an FSX video set in the Vietnam war, and I want to make sure I have my facts right before I get started. I have two questions about B-52's during the war: 1. Did any B-52's fly missions out of Vietnam, or did they all fly in from Thailand and Guam? 2. I read that they flew low-altitude missions on many of their sorties. How low would that be? Thanks, boeing247

Hello, To everyone who lives in Brisbane, Australia, the 787 will be flying into Brisbane tomorrow (Saturday 25 May). It's thought that it will land at 11:30 AM and taxi straight to the old terminal apron. This will be the first time that I'll see it, so I'm really looking forward to this one!
