Hi, I just tracked an A320 flying at 566 kt over the Pacific between New Caledonia and Australia. Is this a website error or is the traffic really flying at 566 kt? Cheers,

Hi! Apologies for another thread but just thought I'd ask what people's favourite aviation books they've read have been as I'm kinda looking for something new. I haven't really read that many but my two favourites are: 1. Flying the Big Jets. Not only a great technical description of how airliners fly and stuff but also a detailed trip report of a BA777 flight from London to Boston describing everything that goes on in the cockpit. 2. North Star over my Shoulder. I didn't think I'd really like this book as it deals more with aviation in the 50s and stuff but I loved it. It covers the flying life of a TWA chief 747 pilot in the 1980 and how he grew up and …

Hi All, Just thought I'd post this little trip report for anyone interested - went to the Flying Legends Airshow this last Sunday - What an event. If your into your WW2 warbirds then this is certainly the show for you - Usually end of June each year. Thankfully there were no incidents this year! Lots of beautiful warbirds including Spitfires, P51s, a P-17, Two P-40's, Couple of Seafuries, Catalina, Several DC-3s, BF-109s, a few I can't remember, and of course the beautiful lady 'Sally B' - The resident B-17! As soon as I arrived and saw experience flights being offered I had to have a go - Firstly went up for a quick couple of circuits round the airfield in th…

First of all, this is not for me. I'm not a fan. An online acquaintance in Milwaukee would like to watch the Iron Maiden plane arrive. They travel in a custom-painted 757. The last info I could find was that it had a tail number of G-STRX, but there has been some financial difficulty with the company that actually owns the plane so I'm not even sure of that. Other than typing that tail number into Flightaware and hoping for the best, are there any other suggestions from planespotters on how to find out when this plane is coming in? Thanks.

News just breaking through from Ireland that the Waterford-based Pilot Training Centre of Ireland has cancelled a contract with a a Florida-based training college(FIT) who apparently failed to deliver. Would-be aircrew stand to lose up to Euros 80k besides being stranded in Florida. Gloomy news for those aspirants.

Hi guys, After a long and intense period of modern airliner-only flying, where everything is calculated for me, and all I have to do is follow the magenta line, I've started to get more interested in the older ways of airline flying. Not sure why it appeals to me, but I guess the screaming turbojets and old cockpits, with scattered dials galore, must hold a place in every aviators heart. After reading Al's review of the CS 707, I started looking at the EPR charts included in this link. Now everything makes sense, and for the most part I understand what EPR is, where the gauge is located etc, but I'm confused as to what the blank boxes stand for. (note, I'm referring …

Am in Central Virginia. Lost power Friday evening due to winds and lightening storms. Went off at 2100 EST and we did not get it back until 1500 on Saturday. 18 hours. Temps rose to over 105 F. Temp Index exceed 111 F at one point. More T'storms expected tonight. Neighborhood basically a mess. Houses speared with trees. Trees down all over the roads, cleanup still happening; what a mess. And this is just the start of "summer". Actually, May was the hottest on record, so I can hardly wait to see what August brings... Anybody in the northern climes want a couple of house guests (with cats) for the months of August and September??? :Praying:

Do you end up missing it? I got back from Iraq the day before Thanksgiving, absolutely HATING the middle east. Now I want to go back in the worst way. I was talking to a former Marine coworker who deployed to Afghanistan, and he said, in "military language" of course, that he didn't like it and never had the urge to go back. Then I talked to another guy I deployed with, and he admitted that sometimes he did wish he was back there. So, I've been weighing my options. I could either go back as a contractor and make the money to make it even more worthwhile to be there, or I could volunteer for another deployment. I'm an air traffic controller by trade, so if I go b…

Hello all. I have always set my IAS to be at 250 below 10000 ft , but I was just approaching EHAM on my last flight and at about 8000 ft I had a 30kt tail wind and an actual airspeed of 280 kts ...and I was just thinking, wouldn't it show up on the ATC radar that I was going 280 kts? Should we be looking at actual airspeed and not just set 250 IAS ? Thanks. Dennis.

Reports saying it was shot down by Syrian forces. If this is the case, then this is quite the escalation. No news about the pilots and no confirmation about what happened to the plane. BUt it went down in Syrian waters. http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/missing-warplane-crashed-in-syrian-territorial-waters-report.aspx?pageID=238&nID=23802&NewsCatID=341

Hi! One of the websites I really like is LiveATC.net. As well as listening to my local London Heathrow and Gatwick when I'm out my favourite frequency has to be KJFK ground/tower online. I just like listening to the American airlines' callsigns and flight numbers and looking them up on Flightaware. What those controllers can do with so many aircraft really is quite impressive. So anyone else like listening to ATC online or on a scanner? What is your favourite freq. if you have one? Many thanks, Pierre

Hi folks, I don't post very often, however on this occasion i felt it important to warn the fs community regarding chart downloads. Normally i download free airport charts using vatsim chartfinder which is usually quite good. on this occasion i was assigned a long haul by my va, eham> rctp (taipei) as this is a 12 hr flight i decided to download charts for rctp enroute. I have windows 7 64bit desktop setup and 2 remotely connected laptops using simconnect for squawkbox, fsinn, etc. and it is a fairly extensive set up for serious flightsiming by any standards. anyway i accessed the vatsim chart site then redirected to vatsim asia and finally vatsim roc ( republic …

Hi! Apologies if this is the wrong forum and please move it to scenery design if needed. Have been wondering for a while now flying in an out of all these airports with great (mostly freeware) scenery. How on earth do the guys get photos for the textures for these airports. I just landed at Albuquerque which has excellent freeware scenery. Ok building the objects one by one for all the buildings must be hard enough, you have to get their heights and stuff. But then the textures for the buildings? There's no way an international airport is going to let a flightsimmer airside onto the ramp to take photos of the terminal from there. And you have to get photos for …

Hi! I love flightsim but I'm also 35 and at that age that I need to start trying to get married. My question is what kind of girl will marry a guy who plays flightsim. I really don't want to have to give up this hobby! So are any of you married and play flightsim. What does your wife think? Many thanks, Pierre
