  1. A US Senate panel just passed a bill to bar airlines from complying with the new EU tax law on carbon emissions. If passed by the full Senate and House, and signed by the President, Tourism to Europe is going to take a big hit, if the EU follows through with their threat to bar airlines that don't pay the tax!!! Looks like they're playing Chicken with the World , with China, India, Russia and now the US, it doesn't appear the World is going to be the ones who blink first.! http://in.reuters.co...E86U00320120731

I used to be a huge SimCity fan up until EA destroyed the franchise by taking it in other directions. I am sure others on here felt the same way. I've been watching the upcoming installment of the franchise with some hope. If there isn't going to be an FS11 then hopefully SimCity lives up to its traditions...That one was really addictive back in its day. http://www.simcity.com/en_US

Apparently a big-budget remake of Starblazers, the ancient Anime import is out there and they are not releasing it in America, or even translating it. (They think the American market would not accept it) :( I think they are wrong! I..... want..... this...... movie!!! Anyone else out there think this looks absolutely awesome??

Amazing video of the crash of a light plane From website News.com.au: http://www.news.com....v-1226446635608 IT'S every flier's nightmare. You're in a light plane and your filming the scenery when it all goes horribly - disastrously - wrong. The plane loses altitude, clips some trees and crashes. This is just what happened to a group of hikers in Idaho last month. But when their single-engine aircraft went down they kept their cameras rolling. The result is a dramatic sequence that shows the view of the crash from inside the plane. Incredibly, everyone onboard escaped with relatively minor injuries. The pilot was worst off, needing treatment for…

Warning this is a graphic video at the end but it shows the dangers of density altitude very well. I used to fly in this area quite a bit when I was teaching and want to show the dangers of density altitude. This occurred at U63 in Stanley, Idaho which has a 5,000 foot runway that you can see him using all of and more. http://www.liveleak....=835_1344412426 There are many links in the chain of events that broke here: High density altitude: The first clue not to fly this day is a hot and high airport. The U63 airport is at 6,370 feet which on a normal day is a fairly high airport add on to it the temperature of 27 C and you have problems. I always like to…

Hi there, Im sure there are a few of you here just like myself who has an interest in Astronomy. Incase you don't know, on the 11/12th of August there is going to be a massive Meteor Shower in the Northern Hemisphere at its peak. It is spectacular and I have already seen atleast five with-in 30 minutes or so here in Ireland. It happens every year or so right the way through July to the end of August. If you live in an area with very little light pollution then get out and lay down on the ground, look up at the night sky and enjoy! Patience is vital, but It is worth it! You might even see the ISS fly by... http://www.examiner.com/article/2012-perseid-mete…

  15. For those of you who like to argue about whose is bigger (forums, categories, etc. that is), we have introduced a new statistics system that is sure to put all the arguments to bed (so to speak). Now, when someone wants to argue about the number of posts made, the number registrations, total membership, etc etc, they can factually discuss those without embarrassing themselves. AVSIM is pleased to bring on our new statistics system and hope you enjoy it too. You can access it by clicking on the FORUM Tab above and then on STATISTICS. Forgot to add... Disregard the file library download stats. Those are taken from the library that did not get implemented. The stats are …

How does an airline stop the twittering public from going mad??? well, this is innovative.... From "The Australian": A PASSENGER on an Alaska Airlines flight bound to Seattle looked out the window and saw what appeared to be a damaged area on the wing with a handwritten note saying, "we know about this". The incident on July 28 drew comments on Twitter and other social media websites, but the Seattle-based airline says there was nothing to worry about. Spokeswoman Bobbie Egan said Tuesday that it was an approved trim repair to the corner flap on the right wing. A maintenance technician wrote to let the flight crew know. Egan says, "The message was the resu…

I don't know if it's time zone differences, but I find myself constantly getting on the server and having no one to talk to about FS and stuff. We should have like a "Friday TeamSpeak Night" or some kind of events to get people to join in.

  22. A subject came up recently in which the scheduling of Teamspeak sessions was discussed. We have made it a little easier to make and show schedules to the forum community. If you wish to schedule a TeamSpeak session, either for discussions or fly togethers, you can do so relatively easy. To schedule your session, click on the CALENDARS link within the FEATURES tab in the menu above. Then, click on the TEAMSPEAK calendar link and pick the date and time that you want to schedule your session. You can also click here: http://forum.avsim.n...dule-of-events/ Unclick ALL DAY EVENT and put in you start time. Enable SPECIFIY END DATE and you can schedule the time that the …

  23. A Good Time Magazine article this week on the comeback of the Turbo Prop, comparing the costs of operating an all regional jet fleet to Turboprops to be too costly. I for one am a fan of the Turboprops on short routes. If it is only a 40 to 90 minute (under 300 mile) flight then Turboprop is better, cheaper and less impact on the Environment (50% less fuel). The flight time difference between a jet and turboprop on a short route is so small that it isn't worth the extra power. A jet has faster takeoff and climb speed up until the 250 knot limit, from their on their really isn't much difference. I am a fan of the Dash 8's so good news for the Toronto production fac…

It is a little freaky how much Windows 8 knows about you. I installed it on a fresh Laptop with no personal files or any personal information. Start it up for the first time and low and behold, My Photo's were in there, it new exactly were I was on the map, Emails loaded up, 300+ of my friends contacts were in there, documents loaded up from my SkyDrive. etc etc etc. I have no problem with it just makes you think how much stuff we are putting out on the internet. I am used to a fresh install of Windows 7 or older and nothing on there until I load it on there. Windows 8 just knows everything about you the moment you start it up. I have a bookmark for the PMDG forums on my iPhone and when I open it, I get the forum app popup giving info for said forum app. I click cancel... Then when I go to any other area of the forum, it continues to tell me at every page switch and is exremely anoying. For example, I got it 4 times before even making this post. Just an FYI about the malfunctioning feature.
