CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Federal officials are trying to determine why debris fell from the engine of a new Boeing 787 Dreamliner, starting a fire and forcing officials to shut down a South Carolina airport. The Post and Courier of Charleston reports (http://bit.ly/NBRR0V) that debris from the aircraft fell onto the runway at Charleston International Airport and into the grass Saturday, sparking a blaze that closed the airport for more than an hour. Boeing spokeswoman Candy Eslinger says the aircraft was undergoing preflight runway testing in North Charleston when the incident occurred. Eslinger says the 787 was the latest one built at the Boeing campus in North Charlest…

A couple of days ago I took a flight from Rhodes (LGRP) to Athens (LGAV) and noticed that although tha plane had docked at the gate, engines were shut and we were deboarding the flaps were at position 1 (it was an Airbus) and not fully up. I think the pic says it all... Is this something that happens commonly or they forgot about it? Personally it was the first time I saw not fully up flaps at a parked plane!

Not sure if this is the right forum for it, but this illusion blows my socks off because although it's a static non-moving pic, it appears to be moving! So if the eyes/brain can be fooled like this by visual input i can't help wondering if some air crashes have been caused by the brain misinterpreting signals from the eyes in certain circumstances?-

  6. I've been reading the threads both on Avsim and elsewhere relating to MS terminating development of Flight. I've seen some people gleefully dancing on Flight's grave, and others saying it's the end of the era and the hobby is dying. On reflection over the last day or so I think nothing could be further from the truth. I think flight simulation is alive and kicking and the future holds some really interesting and exciting possibilities. Consider the following if you will... i) FSX as we all know is still going strong. Yes it's a little long in the tooth now but it's a mature platform with a multitude of developers making new stuff for it, including some extreme…

Hi folks, I have a question that I'm hoping someone can answer on FSX. After purchasing a downloadable product from PC Aviator and downloading some airport sceneries from AVSIM I find that I have lost the strobe lites on window views. This just occured after these downloads. From the little I've found out about rectifying the problem indicates something in the effects file may have changed although the strobe files are still there. If anyone can assist I will check back on the forum or you can e-mail me at [email protected] Thank you, Ellis

Hello members. I had the good fortune to attend this years EAA Airventure show in Oshkosh Wisconsin. I flew in from Virginia on my Harley Davidson, 1,100 miles. Reporting itself as the largest air show in the world, some 500,000 people from all over the world gather in the midwest of the United States to celebrate everything in, of, and for aviation. My personal take?; Holy Mother Of God! Truly amazing... You simply must plan a trip sometime in your life to attend this show. It was told to me that about 75 Stagger Wing planes are still flying today. I saw 10 at the show. That's 13% of the worlds Stagger Wings at this show! That should give you s…

So where do we go from here? As I see it there is only one way forward. Short version: Developers need to unite and make FS11. Unless that happens I'm afraid the flight sim candle will burn out. As a flight simmer and enthusiast for 20 years I am pretty tired of beating the old FSX horse. Life's too short to install FSX once more. A2A, ORBX, Aerosoft, Flight1, REX and many others have created some stunning things, but the platform is still a dead end. It's just too time consuming making FSX work with all the installs, updates and configurations one has to do. With a day job I just don't have time for it, and so I will leave the hobby too just as all my friends have o…

Once upon a time, Microsoft dominated the tech industry; indeed, it was the wealthiest corporation in the world. But since 2000, as Apple, Google, and Facebook whizzed by, it has fallen flat in every arena it entered: e-books, music, search, social networking, etc., etc. Talking to former and current Microsoft executives, Kurt Eichenwald finds the fingers pointing at C.E.O. Steve Ballmer, Bill Gates’s successor, as the man who led them astray. http://www.vanityfair.com/business/2012/08/microsoft-lost-mojo-steve-ballmer It's a long article, but well worth the read

My best wishes for the employees affected by this. Edit Just noticed there was an earlier post on this, Mods feel free to delete!!

First off i wanna say hello as im new to the forms. I am however an active reader of the forms and try to keep up with whats going on. Since the word got out that Microsoft has ended development on Flight, It caught my attention that people were wondering whats next? So I thought i would let people know about Outerra terrain, Its a 3D planetary engine for seamless planet rendering from space down to the surface. Can use arbitrary resolution of elevation data, refining it to centimeter resolution using fractal algorithms. Its not really a Flight sim atleast not yet. An integrated flight dynamics model library (JSBSim) provides fully configurable physics and math model defi…

  14. At Oshkosh Redbird Flight Simulations released Cygnus, a product built by partner Bad Elf that is designed to spoof your iPad into thinking it is where your flight sim says you are instead of where you really are, allowing you to use popular navigation apps, like Jeppesen’s Mobile Flight Deck, ForeFlight’s Mobile Pro or Garmin’s Garmin Pilot as you fly the sim, allowing pilots to use their mobile device just as they would in the airplane. http://www.flyingmag.com/news/cygnus-new-product-lets-you-use-your-ipad-flight-simulation?cmpid=enews072612&spPodID=030&spMailingID=5455153&spUserID=NzgwNjgyNjY4OAS2&spJobID=202944325&spReportId=MjAyOTQ0MzI1S0

  15. I have finished my playthrough about two weeks ago and Ikeep thinking about it. Mostly I remember all the heart-breaking decisions I had to make, the wonderful story telling, but sadly I'm also reminded of the ratehr bad ending, that's just not fitting for an epic journey of this size. I of course have my thoughts about this fantastic trilogy - about the good things, but also why the end ultimately failed to deliver. I'm very curious to hear, if you did play the trilogy, how you experienced the game and the subsequent ending. Personally, I feel the end was a misguided attempt at trying to give you a choice on the grand scheme of things when that choice wasn't even…

  17. A Search And Rescue Sonar searching for three men may have discovered a U-Boat in the river. This is very unusual as it is located about 170 miles inland from the Atlantic Ocean and is also the site of CFB Goose Bay (Formerly Goose AFB). CFB Goose Bay was built in 1941 by Canada and the United States for anti-submarine operations and to stage aircraft to fly to Britain. If this is an actual U-Boat then I would be curious to know what it's mission was, most likely to spy on the operations at that base. Pretty interesting find: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/story/2012/07/25/nl-u-boat-labrador-discovery-725.html

  18. Robert, today I booked my airline ticket to attend the Australian International Airshow to be held in Melbourne, Australia from 26 February to 3 March, 2013. I was just wondering if there is any chance that you or any of the PMDG team may be able to take time out of your hectic schedules to be there either in an official capacity (with a PMDG display booth) or as just another aviation buff taking in the sights, smells and sounds? Either way, it'd be fantastic for us Aussies (especially me!!!) to meet you and the PMDG team (if any can come), as Europe and the US is a long way for us to go to see you at a convention or other gathering. HI I have had chronic sinusitis for more than 7 years. And I have mild Tinnitus, ear ringing symptoms (In my left ear since I had stuffy nose in the left). It is getting louder when I'm tired, and before sleep, so I usually turn my CD set on or other white noise like a fan or idle/white noise radio frequency. Lately, the Tinnitus is getting worse and I am freaked out. Im seeing my ENT (he said he also had ear ringing due to his chronic sinus for more than 10 years..doh) and having fisiotherapy, loads of antibiotics, decongestans and stuffs. My ENT specialist said it was severe sinus infection causing my ear ringing. But I just had my last pills but the ringing is …

As a MA resident that trained, (over 30 years ago), at and flew from many of the airports in MA I'd be interested in knowing which airport was involved. Anyone know?
