There are so many things happening around us; so much change racing along so fast that we often just take our technology for granted without even thinking what it means and just how far the human race has come. But for me, every once in a while, I see a thing and have to settle back and go wow! We are living with magic and don't even know it. This week its voice response. I see this, and immediately my imagination goes into warp and fly's years ahead to see the whole world changing (again) Imagine when these types of systems are everywhere, all synced through your phone, your house, your car......... and more. Great, and scary as heck all in one. Imagine your …

OK, this may be somewhat controversial, but for pilots and aircraft owner/operators, I think we have endured this nonsense way too long and now it is time for some bold organized actions and protests. Fuel costs are outrageous -- soaring in costs vastly beyond cost of living and totally defying all supply and demand laws. So, I wrote this letter to AOPA and I wanted to post that letter here. So, here it is: AOPA is right to work to alleviate burdensome and harmful regulations. However, I want to talk about an even greater threat to aviation -- the soaring costs of fuel. I have a few facts to present and then I'm going to ask AOPA for aggressive action on this iss…

I have just been compiling a list of the software that is due in the next months and I am very excited about the future of flight simming with PMDG. It looks as though my Xmas present list is going to be expensive this year: - RAAS Professional - PFPX - EFB v2 - PMDG B777 - FS2Crew for B777 - EZCA v2 - PMDG B744 v2 - FS2Crew for B744 v2 - New VATSIM pilot client (free, of course) - A 5.1 sound system (any ideas?) After many years flying the bigger Boeings, I am going to have to learn how to share cockpit workloads with a First Officer with FS2Crew. This promises to be a major learning element for me, and bring me much closer to 'the real thing'. Many …

I realize this isn't an aircraft maintenance forum, nor is it really a real world aviation forum, per se. But I'm hoping some of my knowledgable friends here can give their own thoughts. A C182R was subjected to a brief moment of mild .5-0 Gs today. The aircraft immediately developed a bad (severe) "surge", couldn't maintain RPM, a strong smell of avgas entered the cockpit, and having the throttle anymore than halfway would compound the "miss" or "surge". It seemed as if the engine was flooded. After several options to make an off field landing were passed up, the runway was finally made (thank goodness). When on the ground and shut down, I immediately got in and…

In the "real world" do VFR pilots tune into ILS signals ( if available ) on final approach leg to a runway? I'm not suggesting a full IFR approach or flying in IMC, just simply tuning into the ILS to assist with finals. It occurred to me recently when flying into unfamiliar airports ( in FSX) that the ILS signals, especially the glide slope can help with stable approach and landing.

Since I've flown frequently on commercial flights, I've always had sympathy for the flight attendants that trudge up and down the aisles of the aircraft. They have to navigate passengers who refuse to wear their seatbelts, passengers with bad attitudes and manners, and passengers that are just plain bad. It is heartwarming to see this story about someone who has endured all the challenges his profession offers: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2195145/Spending-63-years-sky-finally-landed-flight-attendant-place-Guinness-Book-Records.html Regards, John

One of my friends is a captain for a large charter airline in the UK on the 737. Anyway he was telling me he got into a bit of trouble the other week. He was getting marshelled in and the terminal was in front and some kids were waving at him and the F/O. So he flashed the landing lights at them and waved. Anyway he was telling me he got in trouble for it as it was breeching health & saftey, something to do with it could of blinded the marshaller or could of blinded a ground crew resulting in injury from them being dazzled by the lights? What do you think, you think this is a bit to far or shouldn't he be flashing lights to people in the teriminal? Cheers, T…

Need quick way to lookup an FSX airport? Want to browse airports using various filters such as runway surface or length. Well thanks to Tim Arnot (I used PlangG data as base for this app) I have built this web application to do just that. Please visit FSXDB.com and give it a try.

Hello This is my first post, I hope I make my requst for help clear. Please bear with me. (I am actually un-sure how to spell ck my post). 10 years ago I was an avid participant in the FS9 world with add ons such as FSgenisis, add on senery from individuals Aircraft both free wre and pay ware. I was no expert. But I do remember that some add on compatability issues exsisted. Thus I do not want to box my self out of popular add ons with the addition of one product. I hope this makes since. I need to mention also that my home computer from that time frame 10 years ago with ton's of add ons is "no more". A lot of effort lost. I have FS9, FS 10, CH Peddle…
