Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

  1. Started by EngineRoom,

I was just reading earlier a thread in the X-Plane forum here where the OP was praising the simplicity of XP10's installation and how it's addons have no online licence activations (hitherto at least) or the likes of which are the norm for FSX. Most of the posts that followed were in agreement with the OP, with a few observing that as XP10's popularity rises we will probably start to see the same security measures in XP addons. However, it didn't take long for someone to post a drive-by flame of X-Plane and state the superiority of FSX and the usual "my sim is better than yours" argument began. The post was utterly unnecessary. Is anyone else getting really bored …

  4. Hi folks, So, i wanted to ask a real-world aviation question, and, seeing as the Avsim Forums allow this in the "Hanger chat", i figured i'd take my oppertunity. So, i was generally browsing through the Avsim library, and saw all the "new season timetables" the Alpha India Group make, the traffic programme. Afterwords, i was browsing the "Famous Aviation website that has the first word of Airliners", and was wanting to know some scheds for the W12/13 British Airways Timetable. Next year, i really, REALLY, RREEAAALLLLYYYY want to go on a 77W, seeing as i have only ever been on the -200's. Now, i wish to go somewhere in the US, and, this is my problem: ANZ (…

I was browsing youtube looking for videos on museums, which I enjoy watching in my spare time. In my searching I found the video below, a guided tour of the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson, AZ. The video is available on youtube in High Def and I really enjoyed it. It says part 1 of 2, but the second part of the video was never posted. Still, it's an enjoyable way to spend a half hour if you have time. I live about 120 miles from the museum and one of these days I will go there for a visit. I hope you enjoy the video. If direct linking is not allowed, just go to youtube and type "Pima Air and Space Museum" in the search field. The video will be one of the fi…

  6. In another thread, I mentioned oil submerged computers, and it got me thinking about whether people still tried things like that. To my surprise, I found that what was once a tech-weenie stunt has now gone mainstream, and I thought it was fascinating that you can get your very own oil-submerged machine from specialty dealers nowadays for a paltry $4000 or so............... http://www.hardcorec...s/rx/index.html Very cool! Or you could just go ahead and build your own. Think it will run FSX better?

  8. In late 1987, I was in a retail store in MA. and a new department with computer software was setup. Always in search for the ultimate game, a title caught my eye. It was Chuck Yeager's Advanced Flight Trainer. The PC upgrades immediately started. The CGA card went out for a VGA card (1 1/2 weeks of salary). Memory upgrade from 512k to 640k. Math-co processor, then a 286 PC, then a 386pc. In 1989 - FS3 went on my computer and I never looked back. More hardware upgrades came to run it smoothly. The 486 PC (2 months salary) came. Then FS4 came out - and add-ons really started coming. I started a BBS to distribute download files (32 Bit Bus BBS) It grew to 6…

  9. Hello, just saw an old (but good) movie again and am asking what aircraft plata are flying. The english title is All the Way, Boys, the german one: 2 Himmelhunde auf dem Weg zur Hölle and the original title is Più forte, ragazzi. It's a movie with Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. Here is a link to youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gOOFnQ3leE At 1:22:35 you see it from outside. At 1:25:44 you see it again. It's a 2 engine turbopro I think. Would be nice, if someone can say more.

I was wondering if I were to overclock my i7 2600K to 6.0GHz using the multiplier and the FSB speed, if I could achieve 30fps+ at an airport like FlyTampa Boston in the Virtual Cockpit of the NGX. I'm currently running no overclock, 12GB of 2000MHz RAM, and 2 GTX 560's over clocked on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit. I currently get 20fps+ and was looking to get no less than 30fps-40fps at a very large add-on airport with out AI traffic and medium settings.

So after sitting on my fsx software because I never had a good enough computer to use it, I finally have a good pc. I just learned how to addon aircraft and have added about 3 so far. My question is if im in free flight and flying around will the AI use the planes I downloaded or would I be the only one flying it? Im still no to fsx and learning a lot daily. This question has been bothering me and after googling I still havent found an answer. Thanks in advanve.

Seems fitting for the day that is in it, when you think back on all the lives lost on this day 11 years ago, it's still hard to grasp the sheer volume. I think 9/11 has become that "Where were you when" event of at least my generation, and probably many of those younger and older than me. My thoughts are always with the families on this day, but also with all those also effected by the this in more indirect ways. Still to this day I get goose bumps from looking at the footage of the crashes, and I don't think that feeling will ever go away. When people turned something you have a passion for into a weapon that killed so many it changes you, I'm sure many others on here fe…

I've read that AA looked at re-engining the MD80s, but subsequently placed the large Airbus and Boeing orders instead. Hopefully American Airlines will regain their strength with a modified structure and optimized cost-structure. What surprises me is the fact that they also retire their 757s.. Check this out http://www.airwaysmag.com/att.html?type=view&article_id=145&junk=.pdf It's sad really

Hi! Thought I'd change the pace a bit and ask a question about somthing I've been thinking about on and off for a while now. Apologies if it's a little heavy! Anyway was just wondering if anyone knows anyone who never got married in life or had a partner when older and how did they handle it. I only know my aunt but she lives with me and my parents. Anyway the fact is I have a very real chance of never getting married in life which doesn't really bother me too much. However what I worry about is becoming too isolated. I do try and do stuff socially in the real world and stuff but to be honest I never really get anywhere and find it quite exhausting. Anyway most…

I've been eyeing the Feelthere Embraer Phenom 100 for a while but wuouldn't pay $30.00 for it. Now that it's on sale for 50% off should I ? jump in? Money is not the issue I just don't want to buy it for the hangar you know? Also, I was wondering if it's going to scramble my dml.xxl file again? Any thoughts?
