More sad news to report: Barry passed away on Wednesday 3rd October after a long battle with diabetes and heart disease. From an early age Barry’s life was aviation. He joined the Air National Guard as a cadet and as soon as he was able he joined the US Air Force. He flew F-100 Super Sabres and F-105 Thunderchiefs on combat missions in Vietnam. He was invalided out of the USAF after being severely wounded when his F-105 was destroyed by a SAM missile. After recuperation he applied to join the US Army as a helicopter pilot and returned to Vietnam. When his flying career was ended by a heart attack he took up virtual aviation as a hobby and started to design…

Hi Guys Maybe a long shot here but I was browsing the library the other night and I came across a repaint which matches the sky textures and cloud textures that I'm looking for. I've contacted the author to see if he can inform me of which set it is but I've had no luck. Was just possibly wondering if anyone on here knows which ones they are? Sky & Cloud textures. Platform: FS9

Hey! I've been thinking for a while about what airlines currently use these four types: 737NG, A320 series, 777 (any model) and 747-400. And I can only think of ANA and Delta. Am I missing some? Of course the airline can fly other types as well, but I'm thinking at least these four. Thanks

Usain Bolt 'scared' by traditional Maori welcome.....I thought this was great: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFbDdKE3UEA This portion of the welcome (or Pōwhiri) is called the Wero (the Challenge). This is when the warrior challenges the visitor very aggressively followed by placing an offering on the ground in front of the visitor.... If the visitor excepts the offering then he is welcomed into the community, if the visitor doesn't except the offering that means he excepts the challenge. Good thing Usain excepted the offering. :LMAO: This is a great tradition and I went through it as well... http://www.newzealand.com/travel/media/features/maori-cultu…

Samsung Requests New Patent Trial Over Juror 'Misconduct' http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=20121002201632770 One day this is going to make a great movie to sit back and watch :drinks: We've been watching the smartphone patent wars for a while now, and what have we learned? I've learned that all the vendors are infringing somebody's patents. And that means we can all drop the phony moral indignation and think about what we should do about the patent mess the world has gotten itself into by allowing software patents.

As most of you have probably noticed, the Avsim crew recently posted a call to help a fellow flightsimmer in need on the site's front page. I am that "downed pilot" and in the past couple of days have witnessed an outpouring of kindness and generosity that that at times is hard to fully comprehend. I have always known that the flightsim community (and I stress that word) is made up of some of the most incredible people I have ever known but to be on the receiving end of this puts it in a whole new perspective. More than ever, I know that I am indeed wealthy beyond imagination in friends, both whom I have met and whom I have yet to but if the true definition of a famil…

I have invested in this; http://www.justfligh...t/a321-jetliner It's the F-lite version because I want to get familiar with the jet without bogging myself down in too much technicality. I'm migrating from PMDG 737NGX because I don't have the time for the learning curve and I just want to have some fun. Also, I have been developing an increasing interest in the Airbus family and this looks like a good place to start. My primary query is about the joystick, can somebody recommend a good joystick for this jet, one with (just) enough buttons/axes to replicate the function of the Airbus joystick? Actually, I should point out that I don't want the "twist" function a…

Hi, I discovered about a day or two ago that the 747-300's first flight is going on 30 years today. It first flew on the 5th of August, 1982. The first delivery was made to Swissair on March the 28th 1983. 81 747-300s were delivered (Wow, I thought that they had delivered WAY more!) and the last one went to Sabena in September 1990. So, I'll just go celebrate the milestone with a flight in my CLS 747-300. Happy Landings! B)

Two small planes collided today about 2PM AZ time, about an hour south of my home, in Maricopa, AZ. Usually things like this have an unhappy ending--fortunately both aircraft landed safely. One made it to Gila River Memorial airport about five miles south of Chandler, AZ and the other landed at a vehicle test track almost immediately south of where my sister-in-law lives--the test track is adjacent to the subdivision she lives in. Both aircraft were Pipers--there were no details on the damage. Regards, John

Hi, This probably isn't the right forum for this post, but I felt folks may be interested to hear of the loss of six friends in the crash of a rebuilt vintage De Havilland Dragon DH-84 (1934) in Queensland, Australia. The plane was returning from a air show when the pilot ran into difficulties in bad weather. The DH-84 was one of a remaining four in the world. http://www.abc.net.a...m?site=sunshine Bruce H (Oz)

hello, can anyone provide a detailed comparison between the technology of airbus family vs tech of Boeing. I am very interested to know why the airbus has very complicated systems compared to Boeing although the later has the most successful Jet ( B737)? Does the complicated systems and automation in Airbus give it better safety, efficiency, handling and lower maintenance costs for example? thanks.

Everything about budget airlines appear to based around short-cuts, cheap-cuts and brain-cuts! Four Jetstar flights between Wellington and Auckland were delayed because the airline forgot about daylight savings. The 8.15am flight out of the capital on Sunday was about an hour late while crew waited for the plane to arrive from Cairns. Clocks went forward early on Sunday morning, but that wasn't factored into schedules. As a knock-on effect, three later flights on the route were delayed. One disgruntled Wellington passenger, who did not want to be named, said: "We only found out when we got on the plane. They said, ‘The flight's been delayed because of …

Hi, I've got some sad news, 6 people have died in a DH-84 Dragon which crashed near the Sunshine Coast, north of Brisbane in Australia. It was spotted on Monday circling above suburbs, looking as if the pilot needed to land somewhere. The pilot was Des Porter, who had been saved from a DH-84 crash when he was 11. It's really sad that a flight back from an airshow ended so tragically. :( RIP all 6 on board.

I was thinking of the days when games like Falcon 3.0 looked amazing-- not photoreal but realistic. Now when I see gameplay footage of it, the graphics are just crap and the sound awful. I don't know why or what function in the brain causes us to "upgrade" our view of our surroundings, sounds and memories... but... I wonder if there is a way to mentally "rollback" and undue this? Imagine being able to load up the old classics and look and think of them as you did back when they were released, in amazement.
