While waiting for a great A320 version to be released, this video caught my attention on youtube: It shows the difference between A320 simulator cockpit and B737 300/400/500 simulator cockpit. First I thought this comparison was quite unfair, until I realized that these planes are from the same time period. A320 released in 1988 and B737 classics between 1984 and 1988. Just wanted to share as I wasn't aware that A320 was so much ahead of it's time.

  6. I love playing with flightradar24 and have been doing so for a while. I've noticed short haul flights in Australia tend to reach very high altitudes, often more than even long haul flights nearing the end of their sectors. FL410 is routine for BNE-SYD , MEL-SYD and MEL-ADL legs, but even MEL-HBA flights often reach FL380, even though the straight line distance is just 617km. Tonight, was again playing with Flightradar24 and noticed a Launceston-Melbourne Boeing 738 flight reaching FL400. never have I seen such a short haul flight reach such an altitude, but with a stiff northerly wind at both locations, the flight was a straight-out departure to the north from 32L at …

Hi, I was looking on Google Images for a Cross Section diagram of the B744 when I came across this! Looks like a major crash! It says the pic was taken on June 9th 2012! A quick Google search reveals nothing! Sure looks kinda like a 747....... Does anyone else know any details?

This is interesting... I had heard of issues with aircraft with tilting gear or steering rods which could and would fail....but the main body gear in a 747? Would be interesting to follow this up.. The gear truck rotated 45 degrees on landing and the crew called for immediate assistance. link to Avherald http://avherald.com/h?article=458582a9&opt=0

First I do not know if this is the right place but you'll see. There are some sites (Forums) where if you do not come back for awhile they don't recognize you. Okay, you would say, no big deal, right? In AVSIM and Flightsim to mention a couple it isn't even a deal. You give your e-mail and reestablish your old username/password back or new ones if you want. In these other forums when I request a new password it says it doesn't recognize my e-mail, so when you try to re-register it says your e-mail is in use. Which is it? This Forums are normally hosted by other companies and there isn't an Administrator on sight to PM. Having to get another e-mail is of course…

Just got back from a four-week stay in Portugal. We usually fly with TAP, whose Airbus fleet craft all have individual names (usually named for famous or otherwise notable Portuguese historical folk -- Amalia Rodrigues was there at Lisbon). I thought this was unusual but, waiting for the flight home at Lisbon, what should I see hooked up to one of the jetways but an Aer Lingus plane bearing the name 'Eunan', so it appears that AL do the same thing (and www.planespotters.net confirms this -- it's Airbus EI DEK, St Eunan). Anyone know of any other companies that do this?

The Bounty has been lost. This boat has a lot of meaning for my ancestry from Nova Scotia that had built her. At this point, 14 souls have been saved by the US Coast Guard, two souls lost including the captain has been lost. This storm was huge and spread out, so hope all is well for all of my friends on here on AVSIM. I pray you are well, your water is draining out, your power is restored, your lives go back to normal.... With that this song is dedicated to the loss of the Bounty from Nova Scotia, This one is from Stan Rogers, because it best describes those abandoned at sea waiting for the Coast Guard: Here is a closeup of the carving on th…

  22. Hi, I'm sitting here flying my FSX Carrenado Cessna 182 RG over the Grand Canyon and I'm wondering if pilots really fly single planes like this over mountains and the Grand Canyon? If they do, what do they do if the engine conks out? Also, I know IFR ceritfied pilots could take a Cessna 182 into and above clouds, but what is the highest they can go due to limited oxygen and a pressureless cabin? Thanks. Tom

Can someone kindly advise what lighting procedures pilots use on the flightdeck during all phases of night flying? Obviously whilst prepping the aircraft they flood the main panel but whilst taxiiing and taking off would they knock out the main flood to leave just the key instruments illuminated? How about the cruise and descent/landing at night? I guess they can use flood lighting at anytime to carry out important work but bright lights for take off / landing would be very distracting? Thanks!
