Hangar Chat
This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc. Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view. Footage like that is "kinda" rare, seeing it from the pilot point of view is very different... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xqf0HqpnySA&feature=player_embedded

I was just listening to the tower at KGYY earlier this morning, when one of the controllers contacted a flight of four J-3 Cubs on their way to KOSH... ...as they were headed directly towards a blimp in the area. He could see the Cubs visually, but of course they were not showing up on radar at all. He jokingly asked them if they'd ever considered wrapping their Cubs in aluminum foil, at least during such crowed conditions! :LMAO:

We have just opened the new AVSIM Video Library. The video library is an aggregator (for lack of a better word), where videos hosteb by YouTube, Yahoo Video, Google Video, etc. The purpose of this library is to provide a showcase for video makers, commercial members, and those wishing to share their flight sim experience in one place. Now, instead of having to search through all the various video servers, users and video makers alike have a one stop place to catalog their creations and provide them to their community. The videos are not hosted by AVSIM, but simply cataloged by the contributors and made available to their community members. A test video in the new Vide…

Saw this comment in an opinion piece at CNN.com that seemed suspect. I wonder of real world pilots agree; is airline training truly as inadequate as the writer makes it sound? "In the early days of aviation, training included how to recover from some of the most commonly-faced emergencies, such as a lost engine during take off. These scenarios are no longer common, yet the training has not changed significantly to recognize this new reality. Automation used to be the pilot's assistant. Now the pilot is expected to back-up the automation. That is a fundamentally new task that the industry hasn't trained for. Regulators around the world need to acknowledge this and …

I just thought I would post a topic that has something different. Can you tell what it is? If you can't, you had better run real quick and get your eyes checked. Now I am pretty sure that with all the other changes made over the last 4 years or so, NO ONE is going to want this one, right?

Ah! That topic I can't seem to get my head fully around. It may sound simple but I'm finding descents and approaches a little annoying in that I don't seem to fully appreciate their complexity. I've just been watching Baixado e Travado's latest video: I'm curious...At the start of the video, the aircraft is in a managed THR IDLE descent (and is descending within a speed 'window), the speed is then set to a selected 250kts. The aircraft then pitches up slightly, reducing the rate of descent but slowing the aircraft down (speed controlled by pitch). Then 230kts is requested, and the same happens again. Would the ATC always prefer that the aircraft slows f…

What could say more about you than a YouTube video of yourself, your favorites, your sim, your cockpit, your coin collection, your very rare bulikula, than a movie in your Profile. We are pleased to announce that you can now add a YouTube video to your profile for all to see when they check you out. To put a video in your profile, go to your UCP and SETTINGS. On the left side bar, you will find a link for YouTube videos. Click on it and put a video (or videos) in your profile. The information you need to put in is the ID of the VIDEO. Not the URL, but the ID that appears in the URL of the YouTube for your video, such as "tdj3QwRy1vc" which happens to be the ID of the …

I don't know about you guys, but I wish that aircraft creators would give an option where you might actually find something wrong during the checklist. Call it an Easter Egg hunt. It gets very boring running through checklists over and over, always knowing that everything is the same way. Keep us on our toes!

Have you guys heard about this? http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-07-03-eu-rules-publishers-cannot-stop-you-reselling-your-downloaded-games Long story short: No matter what the producers/retailers may claim, they cannot stop you from reselling your downloaded product, i.e. your lisence. This could be HORRIBLE news for addon makers, I assume this also goes for addons and not simply standalone games, at least the article doesn't state "standalone games" clearly enough. What do you guys think of this? I've never sold an addon, but I have quite a few that I never use so it might be an oppertunity to make back some lost cash, which I'll probably "re-invest…

In all the fracas last week due to the advertising exploit issues and system fix, we totally forgot the user voting for the first ever Einstein Award. The community voted and the results are in! Holger Sandmann has been voted by his peers and community members the first recipient of this award. Congratulations Holger! Here is the text that accompanies the award and that you can read in Holger's award list. "The AVSIM Community nominated and then voted Holger the Einstein Award for continuing brillance and focused contributions to our hobby. As a result of that vote and in recognition of many years of contributions to the hobby, we congratulate Holger on being the FIRS…

Hey guys, The most realistic military simulation has been reawoken in recent months due to a free mod called ~DAYZ. This is basically survival in the worst case scenario possible. It is super realistic but to play it properly you should set up a team to help each other survive. Has anyone got it and wants to link up? Alex Website http://dayzmod.com/ This video is great http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=A7Q8c8jnL3s#!

For quite some time now, the AVSIM forums have been managed somewhat on an ad hoc basis. That is, moderators voluntarily taking on responsibility for specific forums of interest, and without much of a guiding hand from me or other AVSIM Senior Staff. As with all other areas of AVSIM, we have teams in place with a leadership "structure" to provide continuity and a common direction; the library management team, review team and editorial team are just three examples. With the massive amount of work being done to bring the new, fully integrated AVSIM to life, it is very apparent that we need to have that same kind of volunteer team in place for the forums. We invited Ste…

No, no, no... Not about me, but about you! We have brought online another feature for sharing your interests; "Things You Need, or Want, to Know About Me". Click on that in my profile to the left, and you will see what this is all about. This is an entry you can make in your UCP/SETTINGS and when you have, you will have that show up in your topic post profile side bar and in your full profile that everyone can view by clicking on your user name. We set it to allow 1,000 characters, which won't allow you to write another "WAR AND PEACE" but is sufficient to give you plenty of space to gag everyone with your habits, hobbies and fixations - like mine. :p0128: Have f…
